The Canucks just signed Jay Beagle and Antoine Roussel 4 years each.

Tavares to TO https://www.thescore.com/s/5932144

TjAlmeida 07-01-2018 09:11 AM

Man, how are they going to afford marner, Mathews and nylander. Even if they flip one for a defender still a lot of money into 4 guys

Jmac 07-01-2018 09:27 AM

4 x $3.2M for Roussel (29 in November)
4 x $3.0M for Beagle (33 in October)

Neither have ever cleared 30 points in a season.

The Roussel contract is slightly easier to stomach but both are absolutely terrible contracts.

They'll find a way to afford at least 2 of those 3. Marleau has 2 years left at $6.xxM, which they may buy out the last year or dump him onto a team with cap space.

mb_ 07-01-2018 09:44 AM

Caps signed Dowd... It was basically a trade lol

Speed2K 07-01-2018 09:53 AM

Both 4 years $12 million contract.

I’m for it but I don’t know about term running them to closer to 35 age mark.

Do need defensive guys. Team is too easy to play against. Lost out two of our better pk guys in hansen and burrows from before

Mike Oxbig 07-01-2018 10:39 AM

Gagner and Sutter might be trade bait now

we need a legit LW

They need to get rid of gaunce, we can’t have a player that puts up no points.

Hondaracer 07-01-2018 11:45 AM

Awesome when our GM signs deals that literally every analyst says too much and too long.. :/

Mike Oxbig 07-01-2018 12:14 PM

thats 4 years for hughes, petterson, dahlen, gaudette and joulevi to get their shit together with protection

PiuYi 07-01-2018 12:20 PM

Riley Nash signed in Columbus for 2.5m x 3yrs.... why couldn't we have done that instead

68style 07-01-2018 12:25 PM

I don’t understand why we need these guys they don’t offer a special sillset you can’t get from within not necessarily from, say, Archibald but a similar type guy for 1/4 the money and no real term. We have too many players we’re just pissing off guys who could develop into scorers by removing the chance for a roster spot for them.

Mike Oxbig 07-01-2018 01:17 PM

rousell is paid to fight and drop the gloves every night like dorsett did

our kids are gonna get roughed up... hughes 5'9 170lb petterson 170lb

Hondaracer 07-01-2018 01:50 PM

You get get plugs like Archibald to play those roles without locking them up for 4 years

Roussel doesn't fight to protect teammates, he fights because he makes dirty plays.

buhdeh 07-01-2018 02:21 PM

LOL supposedly both Roussel and Beagle have limited NTCs. Probably the worst offseason for any one team in the last 5 years.

I guess the Canucks really wanted a second 4th line.

Hondaracer 07-01-2018 02:28 PM

Gillis was such a bad GM getting dem value contracts and home town discounts :(

Like again, what direction are we going in?

Too bad he gave away draft picks like candy and drafted like shit.

Canucks had the second best record of any team in the league during Gillis' tenure (just shy of Chicago) and he got value out of most of those traded picks. Gillis' "bad at drafting" rep also influenced by lack of picks, always picking in the bottom 10 of the draft, and some historically bad drafts (2011 and 2012). Was Gillis supposed to not trade for depth for upcoming playoff runs?

Benning has somehow managed to never come into a draft with more than 7 picks despite finishing in the bottom 3 in 3 of his 4 seasons, but Gillis bled draft picks ... yeah, okay ...

The same direction we've been going in since 2014 ... spinning in circles
