Well sun rises here around 5-530, so it's not unthinkable that he was going for a morning dip

Too bad the idea for a morning dip probably came after 8 hours of drinking and his 3rd bump of the night... poor guy and his family... those that burn the brightest also burn the shortest sometimes

Love these videos. Seems like benning really wanted Hughes and woo

Ch28 07-19-2018 04:56 PM

The guys really do believe we got 2 excellent players in Hughes and Woo and you can tell from how pumped GMJB was.

Tim Budong 07-19-2018 09:01 PM

the one comment that stuck out was about goalie dev. collegiate goalies are better developed?

seems to be the case with the Canucks.

Jmac 07-19-2018 10:45 PM

Of the 30 goaltenders age 30 or younger who played at least 20 games last season, 13 played in the CHL.

Of the 16 goalies age 30 or younger who played at least 41 games last season, 6 played in the CHL (7 Europe, 3 college)

Of the 4 goalies age 25 or younger who played at least 41 games last season, 2 played in the CHL (1 Europe, 1 college).

do u sit at the table?

from what u brought up, seems like 50/50

but thats what JB and the organization believes in.
Cory Schnieder, Demko

yep

Jmac 07-20-2018 08:43 AM

So if they sit at the table, they’re automatically correct? We all know that even the best scouting teams aren’t perfect and we’re certainly not the best. What they said flies in the face of existing data (e.g. the Murray comment). To arbitrarily dismiss an entire league or region based on ??? is doing yourself a disservice.

highfive 07-20-2018 09:42 AM

I can say so far the trend has been quick, Schneider, Gibson, hellebuyck, Howard. I think college so far is not a bad to develop a goalie or even player.

Gibson was US NTDP to CHL; never played in college.

Schneider, Quick, and Howard are all well into their 30s.

It’s most certainly not definitively better than the CHL or European leagues.

Ok cap hit. It is definitely a show me deal.

After his first season and hitting 24 points, everyone was talking how he could be a top 4 defenseman. Took a big step back last year. Let's see if he can regain his form.

murd0c 07-20-2018 01:09 PM

he just needs to be giver the opportunities and he will succeed, Green didn't really give him the chance last year so hopefully things will change this upcoming season.

This... you could tell last year he was playing confused... like is he supposed to be physical or use his skillset to his advantage... he was lost somewhere in between. He's never going to be a physical d-man.

I don't think there is a league that is definitely better than the other. You pick based on the individual. I'm not sure why the commented it like that. Maybe it was taken out of context and they were looking at it in a different angle?

bobbinka 07-20-2018 08:47 PM

regardless of how the team does, he's going to be so fun to watch this season

spoon.ek9 07-20-2018 10:57 PM

I agree, the main thing in the next 2-3 seasons is seeing our young stars develop. If we happen to win, it'll be a bonus.

Nabatron 07-21-2018 09:42 AM

not sure what they are going to do on the backend but if hughes decides to go pro and they give juolevi a shot as well where will they play in the line up?

Trade Del Zotto and Hutton, but personally, I would just put the rookies in the AHL to start. Hughes really isn't physically mature enough to play defense in the NHL at this point and Juolevi still has some stuff to work on according to Salo.

I'm shocked this hasn't been posted yet but its about time Benning signed a player with a decent contract

https://www.nhl.com/canucks/news/van...en/c-299577772

Quote:

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed forward Jake Virtanen to a two-year deal with an AAV of $1.25M.

"We're pleased to sign Jake to an extension," said Jim Benning. "He adds physical presence and speed to our line-up and can help create offensive chances when going hard to the net. We look forward to seeing Jake take the next step in his game and consistently contribute to the team's success."

Virtanen, 21, recorded 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in a career-high 75 games played with the Canucks in 2017.18, additionally setting career highs in goals, assists, points and penalty minutes (46). His 155 hits led all Canucks forwards, while his 46 penalty minutes ranked fourth on the team.

In 140 career NHL games over three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, the 6-1, 229-pound right winger has collected 34 points (17-17-34) and 93 penalty minutes.

A native of New Westminster, British Columbia, Virtanen was originally selected by Vancouver in the first round, sixth overall, at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Wow. Trevor Linden stepping down?

cdizzle_996 07-25-2018 03:53 PM

Sounds like it’s official

Jmac 07-25-2018 04:19 PM

Something to do with Jake’s signing? Nothing else has really happened since early July

MG1 07-25-2018 04:21 PM

Yup. Gone. Amicable they say. Who cares, anyway. Canucks are a lost cause. Unless, Aquavulva fucks off somewhere, the Cannots are just that. Can nots.

Just my two bits. Frustrated, hopeful, but realistic. Like Charlie Brown and Lucy holding the ball. Maybe just maybe.......... then, nope.
