Absolutely it's what they shit on other nations for, but hypocrisy and bullshit from "the most important country in the world" is nothing new.
Canada is definitely a hybrid. I honestly couldn't tell you a country that truly is a fully capitalist economy.

This is very true.
laissez faire capitalism has not existed for decades. Some would argue ever.
The system in place privatizes profits and socializes losses.
It's certainly not true capitalism.
All sophisticated economies are guilty of this. Canada included.

we have a much smaller population than china

the canadian thing to do is help when there's a disaster in the global community

so dont get too caught up in the tit for tat count; if you lend a neighbour sugar you don't ask for it back lb for lb when you're low yourself

In a free market, companies that can adapt and manufacture things that are needed at this time will survive. Restaurants, gyms, coffee shops that go out of businesses as a result of this will result in lots of retail space for leases when all this settles. Lease rates will have to adjust with higher vacancy, namely go down, entrepeneurs will take advantage of opportunity and start new businesses. In short, those who argue for free market and capitalism can't argue for socialism or communism now. In other words, you can't be a free market capitalist in good economic times and communism/socialism in bad times.

Agree ... disagree?

You're free to disagree, that's why I posted, to see different perspectives. But do you have any insightful things to contribute or say other than to demonstrate your low IQ?

Like what kind of small business are you in? How is this affecting you? Will this make you go out of business? Are you able to retool?

Manic! 03-28-2020 12:38 PM

I find it strange so many conservatives are now asking for government handouts. What happened to sticking to your principles.

Retool? How do you expect a Dj, plumber or a person who runs a clothing store to retool?

Have you ever even run a business?

I'll gladly put my hands back in my pockets. So long as i won't have to repay another penny of this government's $112billion (and climbing) debt.

Yes, family has had a business for 30 years.

A pizza franchise down the street closed its doors. That's 15 plus people not working including many kids who were saving for college. I would rather have the government pay the business to stay open and keep those 15 people working until the economy gets better than have them on government assistance.

Then be an example and don't take any government handouts or a mortgage deferral.

Feel bad for the reporters... I'm sure her boss wanted her to press on this issue but FFS, we all know it's a political matter. We already know CHINA won't ever let you join.

Eg// Will Taiwan ever be able t host the Olympics... nope. Will a mistress ever be able to have valentines day dinner on Feb 14... never going to happen.

Taiwan is flaunting about how awesome they are dealing with COVID19 (and yes, they are pretty solid in tracking everyone, no doubt), but so if somehow Taiwan fails on this covid19... are you willing to kick yourself out of WHO? Taiwan will just be a no body sitting in a room and have zero say so why bother.

If you want to get noticed, go donate million of masks to NY or California, or heck, go send ventilators to Italy... that'll get your the national stage like no other.

/rant over.

Taiwan is already kicked out of the WHO. There were calls to let them in when this crisis was starting in China. They tried to submit info to the WHO, and were ignored. This was a month before China and WHO were claiming "no human-human transmission" and Taiwan was like "actually, that's not possible, here's why". It fell upon deaf ears, and now here we are. China and WHO said "no need to block travelers from China" but Taiwan did it anyway, immediately.

Taiwan treated it seriously from the very beginning. So in fact, because they weren't in the WHO, following their guidelines which were corrupted by China, they are handling this better than anyone.

Other countries who took it seriously were those who learned not to trust China due to SARS (Singapore, Korea who BTW just finalized how to handle this kind of situation a month before it happened) and those whose citizens forced them to, and also took their own action (HK)

SkinnyPupp 03-28-2020 03:22 PM

This is a loooooooong ass twitter thread, but it's filled with information and references showing why the thought of "masks are only effective if you're already sick" is going to be considered outdated thinking by researchers soon. For some, it already is.

I submitted an unroll, I'll post that link when it comes back.

Read and share those links if you know someone who is a "mask denier"

Clearly you know nothing about small businesses. Let me educate you. Many, if not most, small businesses are dependent on each other.

My client is a fashion wholeseller/distributor. They bring in the goods on the basis on a contractual agreement that their retailers will buy the goods upon delivery date. It is now delivery date, and retailers are closing left, right and centre. Retailers can't afford to bring in new goods, let alone keep their doors open with the huge decrease in revenue in the last couple of weeks. No one is shopping right now - foot traffic is basically non-existent. It can be said that those retailers could have and should have switched to an online retail model to retain some form of sales - but that requires an investment in a model they have no clue about. Most of these retailers are in a small town and owned by senile fucks who say "i've been in business for 25 years..." yada yada ya.

So because retailers have no source of revenue, they can't bring in goods. Therefore my client is fucked, who has to layoff some people and can no longer pay MY COMPANY to do marketing and bookkeeping. So I'm fucked out of a form of business revenue as well.

I have so many clients that have no sales and since my business is dependent on them having money to pay me in the first place - I'm hooped too. I'm not going to go around continuing to do work, hoping they pay me. Service work isn't something you can hold on to as hostage so they'll pay.

Do you see how everything is interconnected? Most businesses in Canada are small businesses. We're all fucked. If you've been living a cushy corporate job without having to worry about managing your own business, sit the fuck down and shut up. Unlike you, us small business owners don't get paid to clock in and do jack all.

No one can afford to hire an extra 15+ people right now, in the current environment. The good thing is that with government help businesses can afford to keep their staff on payroll for a little longer. Under the Canada Emergency Business Account, businesses are offered a $40,000 loan, with $10,000 forgiven provided that the money is returned by Dec 2022. Further with that, the government is offering a 75% wage subsidy to be deducted from payroll remittance.

In short, take the 40K, take the 75% wage subsidy, and pay your existing employees. However, I doubt Manic can afford to take on more employees with such a shortage of business (revenue).

Jesus H. Christ. Obviously he can't hire 15 extra staff at his gas station right now.
Just like i don't have the option to not pay for this massive government debt that's now been acquired.
So he makes stupid comments, he gets stupid responses.

Mr.HappySilp 03-28-2020 06:18 PM

I think at one point the video even said even if there is Ventilator some hospital in the states might not want to/have plans to purchase them. Simply put a Ventilator cost anywhere form 20k to 50k and if you are a small hospital or aren't making money you aren't going to spend the money on it since after this is all over you will have no use for the extra Ventilator you purchase. Not to mention you need other equipment, doctors, nurses, specalist and special rooms support it. So these smaller hospital will refer CoVID19 patients to larger hospital which put more pressure on the bigger hospital

SkinnyPupp 03-28-2020 07:07 PM

Concise timeline of the C19 outbreak, with references.

This is a must-read if you want to know how we got where we are. It's not biased, just showing facts (most of the references are from China, some English ones from China-owned SCMP in HK)

If you think I have "a hardon for China" this might explain to you why. Don't try to "defend" the ccp without reading this fully first.
