82 billion? That will just cover EI for people

40 million people in canada, lets say a 1/4 are on EI

10 million people on EI, getting paid 1600$ monthly, is the same as 10$ a hour.
Do the math, thats 100,000,000 million an hour, x 8 hours a day the government is paying out. 82$B / 800$M
That will run out in 3 months

Not to mention, business bail outs, 500$M/monthly to cover renters, and everything else

If only saving for rainy D̶a̶y̶s̶ Months was a requirement by the government, but i guess people need their smokes

We wouldn't be here if it wasnt for coronavirus...

So considering that we are now in urgent need of ppe, and that our government gave 16 tonnes of that very valuable commodity away to China last month (even as healthcare workers were warning of a shortage), we can probably expect them to do the same for us now, right?

February 9, 2020 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

Canada is working with its partners and international organizations to control the spread of the novel coronavirus. This is vital to helping those affected and protecting the health and safety of people around the world.

To support China’s ongoing response to the outbreak, Canada has deployed approximately 16 tonnes of personal protective equipment, such as clothing, face shields, masks, goggles and gloves to the country since February 4, 2020.

This equipment has been provided in collaboration with the Canadian Red Cross and the Red Cross Society of China.

That's probably where we bought them in the first place...
And then gave them back for free.

There were 3 officers standing together, seemingly shooting the shit, within 6ft of each other and not wearing masks like I have seen with law enforcement here. Didn't spot any Canadian border protection measures, but that is always the case.

I used to drive on the road parallel to Zero Avenue on the American side. Going from Northwood Casino to the Aldergrove Border Crossing. There was a short cut to the border line up that they blocked off when they built the new Canadian Border Crossing offices. They have those tower cams and all kinds of surveillance equipment along there. I have farmer friends who live in Upper Sumas. They tell many a stories of jumpers going through their property.

We need our guys (RCMP or armed forces) to keep them americans and their coronavirus infested carcasses from entering our country, not the other way around. :troll:

They'll sell it back to Canada, and then take footage of the Vancouver Olympics, adding the Chinese national anthem in the background and changing all the Canadian flags to China flags, dubbing people chanting "THANK YOU CHINA!"

I'd like to take full credit for the joke, but actually this is literally what they did when they sold (NOT donated) medical supplies to Italy (and BTW so far 70% of their test kits yield worthless results - so add another 70% to their official number if you like)

^I'm speechless....................

MG1 03-27-2020 12:09 AM

Just watching CTV National After Hours........... I briefly saw dude in a hospital covered in some kind of clear plastic garbage bag a la bottle heads. Sounded like it worked???

Someone please tell me this is not a joke. We all need to wear water jugs over our heads.

EDIT: realized I could rewind what I saw. It's just a make shift protective shield the ICU came up with to protect health care workers from the virus as the respirator tube is taken out of the throat. I guess the removal causes coughing and droplets spewing all over the place. The helium/oxygen pumped into the clear garbage bag keeps the bag pumped up while they work on pulling the tube out of the patient. Canadian ingenuity

You could be right.........

There is a wet market in Indonesia as well as in other asian countries. I also heard of one in South America (Peru?).

Government of Canada needs to update its ads. Maybe include COVID-19 as another reason not to vape.

https://www.canada.ca/en/health-cana...es-vaping.html

Vaping might be a common factor in young people coming down with COVID-19

New rules for HK starting this weekend:

Exceptions: work places, gov functions, court, LegCo, District Council meetings, weddings, funerals etc

(nothing about buses or MTR)

65 new cases, a new high for a day.

BY THE WAY if there are any other RSers around the world, I would love to hear your anecdotes on how your country is dealing with this. Please share!

I'm hoping the COVID-19 pandemic is over by June 14th. Somehow, I'm thinking it's a no go. Especially if dipshit sends troops to the border. That'll really look good at this event.

I remember, fondly, going to this yearly event with the marching band I was part of.

since 1937 with exception of a few years................

Check out the video called, "The Peace Arch Rises." Driving across and back from Canada and the US, you don't really appreciate its beauty and significance. As mentioned in the video just walk through the arch and take in the view from both sides. It's quite amazing.

Sorry to pop your bubble it won't be over by then. I was looking on TV interviewing this HK health professor. What he pointed out seems very accurate. He basically mention the way China handle it is by suppression. Suppress it and not let it spread as much as possible. It works on short time but since so few people have been in contact with the virus when a second wave hits and it will hit it will be worse. Because of the suppression method a ot of people didn't build the immunity for it. He called it the second wave coming and when it comes it will be much worse coz do you use the suppression method again? Can the economy handle it.
At least according to him no one is safe till vaccine comes out and is being mass produce. By his suggestions it should die down around July and August for a few months and then the 2nd wave will come.
