^Every GM is working overtime to put themselves in the best position for Seattle expansion draft.

Waiting for GMJB to say "we ran out of time"

whitev70r 07-17-2021 08:51 AM

Can someone explain ... Schmidt apparently wanted out. So why am I hearing that JB is protecting him from Seattle expansion draft? Does JB think he can get more for him from a trade?

If you lose him to the expansion, you lose him for nothing.

If JB even trades him for a bag of pucks, he gets a bag of pucks.

Depends on who u talk to but some people like me thinks he has positive value still, yet the others think he has negative value which is why u wouldnt protect him. Statistically he had a bad season but analytically he did pretty good from what i remember. If Duncan Keith fetches a 3rd and s B level prospect/fringe dmen. Schmidt who is 9 years younger? Should fetch u atleast that. I would not sell low on Schmidt. We are a much better team with him in the lineup even if he doesnt live up to his salary.

I thought mid season on he was one of our better D's.

Canucks traded for Jason Dickinson for a 3rd

68style 07-17-2021 12:42 PM

Dickinson is a good pickup he has solid career numbers (63pts in 221 games) for a guy who hasn’t been given much playing opportunity

Nashvilles potential cap recapture on Weber if he retires makes Luongos look like pennies

Three team trade:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Philadelphia Flyers finally landed a premier defenseman Saturday, acquiring Ryan Ellis in a trade with Nashville for defenseman Philippe Myers and forward Nolan Patrick.

The 30-year-old Ellis is coming back from shoulder surgery, but the Flyers think he can regain the form that made him one of the NHL's best defenseman -- a position of need for the team for a while.

Ellis is the second member of the Predators' 2017 Stanley Cup Final roster traded away this month. F orward Viktor Arvidsson was shipped off to the Los Angeles Kings on July 1.

Nashville didn't keep Patrick for very long, trading him to Vegas for forward Cody Glass.

"We felt it was time for a change to our core this offseason, and we are really excited to add an influx of youth, size and skill into the lineup with these additions," Nashville general manager David Poile said in a statement.

Dickinson is Dim Jim's way of finding a third line winger, minus the off ice baggage, to replace Virtanen.

winson604 07-17-2021 04:05 PM

Lol we joke about trading people for a bag of pucks. Andrew Ladd didn't even fetch that.

bobbinka 07-17-2021 05:36 PM

wow, Carey Price waived NMC to be exposed to Seattle

I know they're banking on Seattle not taking him, but what a gamble....

Ballzy move! Seattle could pick him and trade him and get a couple of great players back ... like to Edmonton who desperately need a money goalie.

SkinnyPupp 07-17-2021 06:26 PM

Are they allowed to take players and just trade them? That seems pretty unfair

punkwax 07-17-2021 07:13 PM

Unless the rules have changed that’s what Vegas did. They took a bunch of Dmen then traded them for draft picks/players.

Price cap will scare teams unless Seattle retain money.

whitev70r 07-17-2021 09:02 PM

Montreal leaving Shea Webber and Carey Price exposed ... pretty bold.

If you're a new expansion team, with no cap issues, why wouldn't you take Price? Montreal in same dilemma as Pittsburgh ... they had Matt Murray and MAF ... left MAF exposed and look what happened.

punkwax 07-17-2021 09:06 PM

Just learned Price’s contract will make it difficult for Seattle to pull a Vegas move.

He’s owed an $11M bonus this season as well. Calculated risk on Montreal‘s behalf.

:notbad:

whitev70r 07-17-2021 09:14 PM

K ... and it states that he only waived it for expansion purposes so Seattle can't pick him and trade him. Didn't know you can do that but OK ... making up rules as we go. His cap hit is $10.5 till 2026 but the money owed him gets progressively less cuz it was front heavy.

Here is his contract terms:

AzNightmare 07-17-2021 09:14 PM

If they pick up Price, is his NMC gone?
Or does he have to waive NMC in Seattle as well to get moved to another team afterward?

I tried looking into this too and I'm still not sure... It sounds like in previous trades, at the time of the trade the new team has to agree to keep the NMC intact or its done? Does this matter in an expansion draft?

68style 07-17-2021 10:06 PM

Canucks already swing and missed on their first huge opportunity of the off season.

We were one of the best positioned teams for the expansion draft with nobody that matters left exposed… somehow couldn’t grab anyone else’s “might as well trade them or we lose them for nothing to Seattle” players despite this.

DimJim is a joke.

whitev70r 07-17-2021 10:21 PM

Just the actual tweet above stating he cannot be traded if Seattle picks him.
