The Garland signing is such a massive win. Getting him under 5 is incredible!! Best part is if we signed Toffoli last summer this wouldn't of happened. Garland is younger, a lot quicker and has so many intangibles that Toffoli doesn't have it makes it worth not signing him now.

That list was already there when he signed his contract with Vegas before the Canucks traded for him last summer.

I really think Seattle is going to sign Petey to a massive offer sheet which the Canucks won't be able to match and I have been saying that this entire time. Talk about a perfect way to start a rivalry and to get a star player.

Dim Jim better get move quickly and talk to Petey's agent!

Show Petey the money! Get a deal done for Petey.

Don't give the Krak heads an opportunity to give an offer sheet to Petey.

Didn't the Canucks already qualify Petey? Can he still get offeersheet?

Yes qualifying offer just prevents you from becoming a UFA... he has to sign the offer to be ineligible for offer sheets.

That is correct, being qualified basiclly means nothing other then they are still trying to work out a deal. In the mean time any team can jump in with an offer sheet.

This is how the numbers work on offer sheets

$6,166,097 - $8,221,463 - 1 First Round Pick, 1 Second Round Pick, 1 Third Round Pick

$8,221,464 - $10,276,829 - 2 First Round Picks, 1 Second Round Pick, 1 Third Round Pick

$10,276,830 - 4 First Round Picks

Since these numbers and picks have come out every team has matched an offer sheet a player as signed. I love Petey have a jersey of his but man the way Seattle looks it might be worth it not to match an offer sheet if we would get the next 4 first round picks.

I could see Miller’s grumpy ass not mixing well with Schmidt’s goofball act.

I have no sauce or insight but my gut feeling is that Miller has probably told him to shut the fuck up a time or two after a loss :lol

I still don't know much about Garland, but what are the intangibles that he has over Toffoli? Toffoli seemed to be the perfect fit for the Canucks on the second line. And he signed for less in Montreal.

As much as getting high picks back I feel not matching an offer sheet and letting Petey walk may fracture the psyche(sp) of the team. They let it known how unhappy they were losing Tanev and Marky. Maybe this is where the Sedins step in and convince Petey to take a bit less and stay and build a contender much like they did themselves

For 1 thing he's much younger and much easier to trade given his cap hit and age if he doesn't work out

highfive 07-27-2021 11:01 AM

^Garland is a better skater. Toffoli is not as fast I believe.

Top 6 now is a lot faster than before. Only weak skater is boeser and/or pearson if he plays there.

6thGear. 07-27-2021 11:19 AM

Boesers skating may be a bit behind but I feel his hockey smarts makes up for it. 19/20 season where he scored "only" 16 goals he worked on all his other areas and it made him that much better in 20/21 when his shot was back

Mike Oxbig 07-27-2021 11:25 AM

Trade schmitd

Get josh manson

I've found it strange how Petey has said numerous times he's never even met the Sedins... not sure they have much influence over his decision making

sonick 07-27-2021 12:20 PM

Makes sense that he's a risk to hold out on an offer sheet. Have you seen Petey's wrist game? AP Royal Oak Chronos don't come cheap.

Thats what I'd be doing if I was Petey.

Alpine 07-27-2021 02:57 PM

It's ridiculous that Petey has not been signed yet. He should be priority #1. JB is probably trying to get him to sign a 5-6M bridge contract like Boeser did.

AzNightmare 07-27-2021 03:16 PM

Wow, one of the best players this franchise has had in a really long time and there is consideration Canucks might lose him?

FFS

68style 07-27-2021 03:19 PM

As little faith as I have in GMJB, I am sure it's pretty much the only thing he's working on right now.

Remember the last big Sedins contract? Last minute flight to Sweden to make it happen.

AzNightmare 07-27-2021 03:27 PM

I thought he's busy trying to trade Schmidt.
Probably a higher priority for Jimbo.

and there's this

sonick 07-27-2021 03:29 PM

Credit where credit is due, I was impressed by the Garland/OEL trade he pulled off. Despite a lot of non-vancouver hockey circles saying Canucks lost the trade, a lot of Vancouver media is saying it was a solid move and significantly upgraded the Top 9 by adding in Garland.

What I noticed are former players or former executives likes the deal for the Canucks and feel it's a complete win. Even some media members feels the same. Then there are the regular media folks who talks about the end years of the OEL contract.

How I see it is this.

Taking Edlers $6 mil and Sutter $4.6 mil ($10.6) for Garland $4.95m and OEL $7.25m ($12.2M). At the same time take away $12m of dead capspace of Louie, roussel, and beagle. for draft picks.

Team is better overall. Just need to refine the back end.
