Lol who’s dumber.. the fan commenting or the NATIONAL commentator engaging

The moron put a target on his back from every other team in the league with his comments, not just the Canucks. I doubt he’ll be part of the broadcast next year. In b4 some wack ass retort/apology on Saturday

Oh yah for sure, he talked like a dude who's just running a podcast or a twitter account... need to be more reserved if you're on HNIC.

spoon.ek9 06-06-2024 11:38 AM

not letting the trolls know they got to you is internet 101. trolls from all across the league will just continue to egg him on now knowing that he takes it so personally.

Did Drake just put another curse on a professional sports team?

Drizzy put a $500,000 bet on the Coilers. LUL

Drake posted a screenshot on Wednesday of the bet placed with gambling website Stake on his Instagram account with the caption "Oilers are self-explanatory.

I doubt that's his money. I bet stake is just giving him money to bet. Nice way to get kids hooked on gambling.

Canaucks got a new assistant coach Yogi Švejkovský. This guy use to coach at St Georges. He was like a got to parents.

Of course he posted a screenshot of "gambling website Stake"

He also has a "Highlights" reel advertising the site

Manic is right, it's a great way to promote gambling to his young fans

spoon.ek9 06-06-2024 07:10 PM

yep, not unheard of. there's plenty of streamers/influencers being paid to gamble on websites.

Hondaracer 06-06-2024 07:22 PM

He’s got the money, Portnoy and others make million dollar bets and I would assume it’s legitimate

Gumby 06-06-2024 08:29 PM

$500k for Drake is like $5 for me.

Marner "team" says he wants to play as a Laughs into UFA. And now the fans are getting pissed. This is what Canucks fans might have to deal with Petey contract later down the road.

whitev70r 06-07-2024 07:52 AM

^ he has every right to, I suppose. But one way for mgmt to approach this might be to use him for regular season, he seems to do well, get the team in a good position in terms of standings to get into playoffs. Then, as the trade deadline gets closer, trade him cuz he's invisible in the playoffs.

68style 06-07-2024 08:06 AM

Marner has a NMC though... kicked in last season and again this season... so they literally can't trade him if he doesn't want to be traded.

Could potentially lose him for nothing, which is why everyone is pissed.

You better believe the Canucks management will be watching Petey next year like a hawk, because after next season when his NMC kicks in we are fucked if he decides to be a Mopey Mo for the rest of his time here:

2024-25 $11,600,000 $11,600,000 $0 $12,000,000 $2,500,000 $14,500,000 $14,500,000
2025-26 NMC $11,600,000 $11,600,000 $0 $10,000,000 $4,500,000 $14,500,000 $14,500,000
2026-27 NMC $11,600,000 $11,600,000 $0 $0 $11,000,000 $11,000,000 $11,000,000
2027-28 NMC $11,600,000 $11,600,000 $0 $5,000,000 $9,450,000 $14,450,000 $14,450,000
2028-29 NMC $11,600,000 $11,600,000 $0 $5,000,000 $7,250,000 $12,250,000 $12,250,000
2029-30 NMC $11,600,000 $11,600,000 $0 $5,000,000 $3,700,000 $8,700,000 $8,700,000
2030-31 NMC $11,600,000 $11,600,000 $0 $5,000,000 $3,700,000 $8,700,000 $8,700,000
2031-32 NMC $11,600,000 $11,600,000 $0 $5,000,000 $3,700,000 $8,700,000 $8,700,000

whitev70r 06-07-2024 08:54 AM

NMC ... there are ways that mgmt can make life difficult for him. Eg. benching him, healthy scratch, etc. It is playing hardball but each side has to do what they think is best.

spoon.ek9 06-07-2024 08:55 AM

not pointing out anyone in particular here, but i swear when it comes to Petey he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

omg is he going to sign long term with us? why won't he sign?!??

omg he's signed for so long! the contract is terrible! how do we get rid of him??

whitev70r 06-07-2024 09:00 AM

^ yes to the above but you'd think if they signed him long term for > $11M/yr avg, you'd see some positives in the playoffs. I think this year's playoffs really got people thinking if that was a good move or if they could have gotten a boatload of playoff type of players for him. As the saying goes, 'Hindsight is 2020'.

teggy604 06-07-2024 09:01 AM

11.6M for Petey. Perform or doesn't perform he hold the cards. If management wants to pay 11.6M for him sure, but don't put a NMC in there. And of course he could play very well and work very hard next season until his NMC kicks in then he drives the bus.

spoon.ek9 06-07-2024 09:08 AM

Petey has done nothing but work his ass off for this team (as far as anyone can tell from the outside). I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt with him revealing he's been dealing with tendonitis in his knee since January. It's hockey, everything you do on the ice goes through your knees. I think he'll be fine come next season. People just seem to have this chicken little mentality any time there's a slight downturn in his performance.

whitev70r 06-07-2024 09:13 AM

^ that would be my hope for him as well. And I hope that your comment ages well and next year around this time, we'd be chatting about his magical passes and snipes in round 3 or SCF ... and not 'Damn, we got to move him before his NMC kicks in'.

68style 06-07-2024 09:22 AM

I genuinely hope for the guy too, but when your coach says you're not injured and the injury is so vague and it's supposedly since the all-star break and you didn't get benched to recover if it was affecting play THAT much it makes the coaching staff, medical staff and team questionable in decision making. He didn't need to play that whole time if he was really hurt? He could have sat we were making the playoffs one way or another.

I think it's totally fair to call into question his character and battle level.

Hondaracer 06-07-2024 09:28 AM

With the cap moving up, hopefully big time, 11 for petey might not seem as bad in the future

Right now when you look at comparables it looks pretty bad when you’re getting paid the same as a McKinnon etc. but a few years from now a 90-100 point player who isn’t a center, isn’t necessarily a top 20 type player could be making 11.. so we’ll see

spoon.ek9 06-07-2024 09:32 AM

It's a somewhat similar reaction to when Miller first signed his contract. And that is to say, an overreaction. Hindsight is always 20/20 and now we almost all love the fact that we kept Miller and traded Horvat. Cap going up is a valid point because all contracts from here on out will only get more and more expensive. If Petey lives up to his end of the bargain, it'll be a good contract for the prime years of his career.

They rested Lindholm and he came back strong in the playoffs. I bet you its probably because of contract year. If he rested he would be giving up points and that might affect his contract. If it was any other year he could have rested.

bobbinka 06-07-2024 09:40 AM

the circus is always in town right after the season finishes

Lindholm's contract was also up and his situation much more precarious numbers wise and he still sat. Petey signed his new contract March 2, so he had plenty of time to chill after that without worrying about contractual repercussions.

Why is it a circus to wonder why your top guy sucked so hard at a key performance time?

sonick 06-07-2024 11:32 AM
