Ford Maverick in texas built for SEMA. Wonder if it has that SEMA build quality.

Interior looks like shit, how's that exposed amp in the bed gonna survive any rain

trollface 04-16-2025 04:43 PM

You think Sema cars are driven? Some don't even start.

Hey that amp is marine grade. It's only running the 4 speakers in the back. The interior sound system looks stock. The air ride system is also exposed at the back.

2012 mini cooper s coupe JCW

so one of my unicorn just popped up and im checking it out this weekend.
can someone quickly school me on things to look for?
are they really as unreliable as people say?
are the refreshed engines in the 2011-2013 still plagued with the issues of the 2007-2010 ?
time chain failures
tensioner failures
coil pack issues
oil feed to turbo issues

The Producer 04-17-2025 09:49 PM

that's a really rare spec

yes, they got significantly better/more reliable every year as they revised that engine.

I don't have any experience w the R58, but I assume it follows the same progression of the R56

love it or hate it. I'd be all over a later R56 manual JCW hatch (w OEM recaros pls), but I can't fuk with the baseball cap

Spoiler!

red kryptonite 04-17-2025 10:25 PM

the baseball cap is what makes it special to me. everytime i see one on the street my eyes cant help but to follow.
i check the price on these from time to time but the coupe doesnt come up often, i think the price is good for the km.

N18 in this is much better but it’s not bulletproof. Some of the items you listed are much less severe - wear issue that might not hit instead of catastrophically bad.

Not a B48 mini but I think it’s reasonable.

68style 04-18-2025 08:15 AM

Cool spec but I thought these were hideous when they came out… and that opinion hasn’t really changed with time.

What you gonna do with a too heavy to track fwd coupe?

JDMDreams 04-18-2025 08:22 AM

Everytime I see one I'm like what kinda midget drives this, why would you want the more unpractical version of a already even small car. Like those cla, 2 Grand coupe, or x6 when it first came out. Like they tried to do a TT but got it wrong.

trollface 04-18-2025 08:56 AM

My co-woker had one of these non S, it's somehow smaller than the normal cooper.

Drive it like it owes you money—full throttle, all the time. Lift-off oversteer’s there, and the eLSD (real one, not brake-based) pulls you out.

Honestly, I used to hate these too. But they’ve got a rawness and street-level engagement that, dare I say, outshines my S2000 and ND2.

Reverse baseball hat car ?!?! Too sooon junior. Come back when you start looking at murano cross cab.

I don’t plan to track it, and I’ve never driven one before or any of the other minis other than the countrymen. From what I’ve seen from YouTube reviews they’re pretty fun to drive. I’m excited to drive it tomorrow and hope it doesn’t let me down like the PY z3m I was looking at a couple years back.

This car will serve no purpose other than I like for its looks and I’ve always wanted one. So maybe it’ll be the fun weekend car for when I don’t want to deal with the “harshness” of the e46 lol.

Now I’m even more excited

JDMDreams 04-18-2025 11:12 AM

Really surprised it's that hot? What's wrong with the clown shoe? I kinda wanted a z3.

AstulzerRZD 04-18-2025 11:12 AM

Yeah and low key my S2k had a full set of spoon motor/trans/diff mounts, rigid collar, RE71R.

The Mini is just super eager even though it rides like shit; a lot more fun on the street and much less serious car. That said it’s approaching the age where the rear motor mount and others should be redone regardless of KMs.

Countryman/Clubman are terrible. With the 302hp motor and Aisin 8AT it’s really just a dressed up X1 with shitty interior. Has none of the driving feel or excitement of the Cooper hatch.

Well, they’re not that nice to drive in anger. The trailing arm rear suspension and Mac strut really aren’t great; nor are the controls.

They look like a miata but drive more like a mustang character wise.

It wasn’t the clown shoe, if it was it would’ve gotten regardless of how it drove.
If I remember correctly the owner offered it to me for low-mid $20k after I said I wasn’t interested anymore and I posted it on the good buy thread. It all came down to seating position, I’m not a big guy but it just didn’t fit me right.

JDMDreams 04-18-2025 11:30 AM

I had a E36 318ti before I guess it drives the same? It has the E36 front end and e30 rear end.

AstulzerRZD 04-18-2025 12:12 PM

Yeah it’s just a ton of maintenance and hassle for subpar controls and driving experience compared to cars in its class.
A later Z4 with N54 I think is a lot more suited to that kind of character.
On other BMWs, at least you get a S54/65/85 as a reward for all the maintenance.

All that said, the latest S650 Mustang gives me E90 feeling now - controls, transmission, powertrain, and chassis tuning are at that level.
Even without performance pack is a 200% improvement over the S550 I had

22.5k asking:
Z4 with N54 and 7DCT out of the 335is.

- This is NOT the Z4 35is, just the i.
- It has most of the cold weather package (heated seats & wheel)
- It has the sport seats but not the aero kit, nor the adaptive suspension.

I cannot see owning that car without a stick it's just wrong

Badhobz 04-18-2025 08:05 PM

^Sc430 is way better than this and half the price. Oh sorry you want to actually drive it ? …., Yeah I guess that’s important.
