VW did, but I guess it changed with the mk8. Mk7 came with an open diff. LSD was an extra cost option in the performance pack. |
didnt everyone who bought a GTI also got the performance pack? i don't recall ever seeing a mk7 golf gti owner who had an open diff... if you're going to have an open diff, then why even bother buying a hot hatch |
It was definitely an option, but maybe they were just like fuck you if you want one you're getting all the options. |
Everyone keeps talking about LSD, is that the magic thing that makes you put power to the floor when you floor it. |
It certainly helps a tonne... allows both wheels to grip and spin together (if they are going to spin) instead of 1 tire fire. Good for pulling you around corners too at the extremes. |
I guess I never feel it because it always hooks without any torque steer. |

LSD is magic. Back in the day I went AutoX, and you can really tell the difference. I got to drive a ITR and a GSR, and while the GSR I have to let off the skinny pedal around the cones or I would understeer, the ITR I can just keep the pedal down. |
I fucking need a LSD so bad in the S40. 230hp/240tq to the front with peak torque at 1500RPM means it goes wherever the forque it wants to. :heckno: There is one option for me, to 6MT swap and put a Queefe (Quaife) in it. lol. :concentrate: |
Biggest fail I saw regarding the lack of LSD was at an Auto-X with a guy who had an R34 GTT. A few people there didn't know the difference between the GTR and the GTT and I'm guessing the owner was one of those people. Thing was a piece of shit on the tight course. Every hard corner was just the sound of his one wheel spinning away. |

If you have a VAG-Com, OBD11, Carista, etc you can turn up the engagement of the VAQ for even more fun. |

Has anyone on here had any experience with a macan semi long term? This golf is just too shitty. I'm trying to avoid a lightly used bmw wagon again but it may be the only choice. |
Someone was saying the early ones were shit and everything was engine? Front end out? Just like other VW. What's wrong with those f30? Wagons, they seem to be cheaper than used golf rs, wouldn't a wagon have more space |

I'm not against going for an f31 but I think the newest I could get is 2019 which his hitting the age of deferred maintenance I'd bet, coupled with not many out there I thought it may be easier to get a good macan. I've heard about the engine out timing cover leak issue as well, but think that's only prior to 2019 Good call on the x3. A 4.0 or M would be awesome. I'll look into that as well. Golf R is too small for us unfortunately. Dog space in the back is a must and the golf wagon we have is great for that. It's just too fuckin shitty of a car. Horrible driving dynamics, no power and the cheapest feeling interior of any car I've ever been in, including my 36 year old poorly maintained m3 |
I don't know what would be too big. As a family car, we are loving the X5. It doesn't drive as well as the X3, but the split tailgate is fucking amazing, base engine is the 40i which means B58 382hp. A X5 40i is iirc roughly the same price as a X3 M40i on the used market. Both cars will just eat up the miles on the highway, and both are whisper quiet at 120km/h, which is impossible say in a Golf or a Rav4. The sweet spot to buy right now would be a 2021 and if you can find one under 40000km. 2022 is when BMW started doing weird decontenting due to chip shortage, where you lose HK audio across the line, and also randomly losing lumbar support for the seats, wireless phone charging, and other random niceties. |
Does the split tailgate rattle or squeak? My old e53 one does. And the rear wipers always dies on BMW wagons. |
|
Westopher should just pick up one of those. |
I'm still a bit of time out. Just getting my ducks in a row. |

I might be completely wrong here, but it also feels like BMW 3er interior went down hill post E46. You start to see the poor quality materials and more road noise in the E90, and then in the F30 it's even worse! You get alibaba coloured trim BOO |
agreed, even the f80 wasnt all that great. the leather creased so easily and the extended leather dash developed random shiny spots. this may have been caused by me not spraying windex into a towel and letting the overspray sit. |
