If anything, I prefer using the controller. I know where all the buttons are, so I just hit Triangle and use the onscreen menu, or press the buttons knowing what they do and where they are. With a controller, you have to turn on a light to see where all the buttons are. Besides, it's not like you do much 'controlling' when watching a movie.

It's really not that bad to use the remote especially if you never used the controller to control a movie before. I tried using the controller for movies when I first got my PS3 and just did not find it very intuitive to use at all. I grabbed a bluetooth remote as soon as they came out and really liked it as everything that you will need is well laid out on the device. Plus, you get use to it very quickly, at least I did.

well at least the remote is only 25bux or so it ain't that bad

can anyone tell me what the difference is between the backwards compatibility in an 80gb and a 60gb ps3?
other than the number of ps2 games you can play, is the quality worse on the 80gb due to the emulation instead of the 60gb's "emotion engine"?
thanks

It was a pretty big upgrade, considering what little it does. I wonder if there is something they snuck in there to be enabled later ;)

jaguar604 03-13-2008 02:34 AM

maybe in-game XMB is in there, just need the game developers to release patches for the games to enable it. :o or a home preload

mostly because people compare it to Xbox live where you can access the system menu during the game/anytime

and browse and invite people on ur friends list for a game or send and receive msgs in a more convenient matter,

Cause i wanna listen to my music while I play?

dub.g 03-14-2008 09:15 AM

i loved R6 Vegas, i went gung ho that for online play

i just like the feel of shooting the weapons, you really do feel a threat when ur being shot at as well

one thing they should fix and balance is the blindfire from corners, i remember getting soo many kills from that as well as other people when camping, you should be able to shoot through walls like COD4

I bought a 40GB PS3 a couple of weeks ago mainly for the Blu-ray and the video streaming capabilities.

I have a file server that I stream movies, pictures and music to a modded XBOX with XBMC loaded on it. It does a fantastic job as a media extender. I have been playing with the PS3 for a while now and I set up Windows Media Player 11 sharing as well as TVersity on my file server and so far its been OK.

TVersity seems to play more of my movies (which is weird considering all my movies are XVID/AVI's) but the start up time is very slow due to the encoding. Windows Media Player is a lot quicker to start and will actually pass through the 5.1 audio stream but it is limited to the type of files it can play.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a better interface/program that will play a majority of the movie formats...namely .mkv's, pass through AC3, and is not bogged down by the encoding process? I know I am asking a lot but I everytime I CANT stream some video on my PS3 i find myself missing my XBMC more and more. :(

Sony hasn't annouced the release date as of yet, but surely they should release it before GTA4 comes out, so within the next month or 2.
