^ I have not heard of that before...i think it's just a rumour, and it's definitely not true. |
I call BS. However, what's related could be the firmware updates. There's a chance that they'll re-lock the iPhone if you go through with them. |
Speaking of iPhone, if you unlock it, does it void warranty? |
yes |
Oh shit, so this is a pretty big risk, eh? |

guys i'm planning to go to the us next week and get me one of these baby. Is there anywhere close to the border than wil have it available other than the apple store at university village? I heard the unlock can only be done of 1 version of the software, will i be able to check the version of the phone when i buy it? |

Don't even bother trying to get iphone from AT&T store that is near the boarder. They have it in stock, but they required immediately activation (which we can't since we are Canadians). So, I am sure you can get it from Apple Stores FOR SURE. I got all my 20 iPhone from Alderwood Mall (no question asked)! After 8.9% tax, the 8GB iPhone costs $434.51. No, you can unlock every single version iphone with Mac software hack. I unlocked mine in less than one hour. But IF you planning to go down there and get ONE iphone, don't bother! When you come back to Canadian Customs and declare the iPhone, you will have to pay 13% tax FOR SURE! I only declare Four iPhone so they are not going to search my car. I don't recommend you to sneak over an iPhone without declare it. When I pay my taxes, the officer told me they will tax EVERYONE who brings iPhone back to Canada. If you are planning to bring more than one back, declare at least one so they tax you and you don't get searched! When I was there, one custom officer caught a guy lying about declaring stuff (even the office gave him a second chance to tell the truth), he got a fine for $2,000. Getting an iPhone on craiglist for $550-600 is pretty reasonable price. Since unlocking is EASY to do anyways. So, you saved your time at the boarders and gas. BTW: I sold all 19 iPhone overnight and kept one for myself. ;) The iPhone price on craiglists is coming down. So, last Friday is my last "flipping iPhone" trip. |
so my best bet is to go to alderwood mall? Its at a stage where i dunt have to worry about the quantity of stock in the store rite? Me and a few buddy is going over probbaly will bring over 1 each so 3 or 4 in total? you seem like you made many of these iphone trips. Say I only declar one of the 3 fone wat are the chance they will still search me? The one in alderwood mall that you got ur 20 fones from is it an at&t store or apple store?? |
I picked one up at Belleuve Square. They were reluctant to sell it to me at first but after I told them the nature of my job, they said okay. |
Why were they reluctant to sell you a phone? Wouldnt they be more than pleased? |
They don't want the phone to be sold to outsiders in order to protect the rights that AT&T/Cingular and Apple have. Also, for Apple to protect their own interests while they coerce Uncle Ted Rogers into giving them billiions so we can have it in Canada. |

Other than that how would they know you're an "outsider"? Do they interrogate every single customer? :p |
wouldn't they question people like the guy who just bought 20...? |

It doesnt make sense to question the guy buying one, over the guy being 20 of them.. |

well i think the guy bought the 20 phones from the Apple store and maybe bcrdukes bought it at the at&t store... i guess it's different when buying from both stores?? |
lol this is getting crazy...hahah I'm gonna wait a little while before I shop around for iPhones for my friends! Geez, but if I could make it down there right now, I'd buy a whole lot more than iPhones...haha Currency parity FTW. :D |

I tried my luck at the Apple Store just around the corner. At first, they wouldn't bite so I left and went for lunch. Came back an hour later, pleaded my case (what I do for work) so the sales rep (some Asian kid) checked with his superior and gave him the aye-okay. Went down to the University store and the one Downtown Seattle - both stores were somewhat reluctant to sell to me. Tried my luck again at various Cingular/AT&T stores while walking around downtown - same thing. As for buying 20 iPhones - holy shit. You've either got balls or your alter ego is Rico Suave (or heck, both!) |
sounds like it's gonna be a pain buying from the states... The craigslist prices are actually decent now...550 for a brand new 8 gig...that maybe a better option then driving down there, waiting for the border, dealing with apple stores etc etc |
the 4gbs on craigslist are still a ripoff. 475, 550, 650 hah |
^ and no one is gonna buy those when the 8 gigs are just a little bit more...lol |
^ i saw 4 ppl with iPhones yesterday and they were like totaly showing it off as they were walking they have to be tapping on smth lol |
