I been to the AT&T store near Bellis Fair, they are pain to deal with. They required my activation right away. I told the store manage and he is not really cooperate with me, so I left the store and heads to Apple Store instead. I don't see a reason for Apple Store not selling 20 iphones to me. Just make up a legit story or tell them you are from Canada. Just don't be a dickhead and ask them nicely. I think the sales rep. is pretty happy since she got 20 iphones sale under her name that day. Getting back to boarder is scary. But from what I learned in the past (after few searches and heavy tax fines), as long as you declare few hundreds to the customs, they will not search your car. I rather pay $200 tax rather than paying over $1000 in tax and fines if they searched. Of course, I got my dad to come with me, so it's not that shady. I even shopped at Seattle Premium Outlet so I have other things instead of just iphones. |

http://www.apple.com/retail/iphone/ The following is what I learned from talking to those Canadian Customs Officers several time. As long as you declare reasonable amount of things, they likely won't search you. If you have 3 friends and only bringing back $100 of goods.. your chance of getting search is PRETTY high. BUT, once you declare iPhone, they will asked you to pullover and pay tax. The customs and sales rep. from Apple Store already aware of iphone coming back to Canada. So, it's nothing new to them. Canadian customs will make you pay tax if they heard "iPhone" from your mouth. I actually tax on my iphones and they exempt the tax on shoes and clothing. One IMPORTANT thing to remember, don't EVER EVER lie to them. You'll regret BIG TIME when they caught you. I have been them giving a guy who caught lying SEVERAL times (even office gave him second chance to clear up his story), officer fined him $2000. But then, he is STUPID, he declare $0 value. |

i wanted to get one.. some of the people on here keep telling me how great it is and what not... im just waiting to see what they say in a few more weeks. see if the battery explodes or something hahaha |
^ get one man...it'll be cooler than any Nokia phones that you have owned...haha...j/k j/k i can't say that the phone is 'great'...but i must admit it's definitely refreshing to see a phone like this out in the market... |
Agreed. I can't use my BT GPS (yet), the video player doesn't have a playlist function, repeat options, etc. (yet), a proper to-do list (yet), a weekly, colour-coded view for the calendar (yet)...and I could go on and on. The thing is, since it's mostly software, there is a chance that these functions could be added later. Regardless, as it is now, it's a sweet phone and a fantastic media player. Just a little rough around the edges, but it's so different that like albert116 said, it's refreshing. |
^ what you said and i also had some reception issues where the signal bar goes up and down randomly...ppl in hofo reports this also...i think it's affecting specific batches of the iphone. |
Does your serial number begin with a 5 or a 7? And is yours an 8 or 4 gig? I have an 8 gig 7-series bought in July, and it has no problems with reception at all. Bars pretty steady at full most of the time, unless I'm in a dead spot. Seems to be performing better than other quad-band phones when I'm with friends (i.e. their reception is dropping but mine still shows full bars). |
But how is the overall call quality? I remember my M600 used to jump up and down randomly but the call quality wasnt really affected. How is battery life with heavy mp3 + video usage? |
Mine is a 8gig, with a 7 series serial #...I am not sure when it was purchased as i am not the first owner... As for the overall call quality, it was affected as i could hear static on the call...and i have had the person on the other side comment that they can't hear me clearly. Funny thing is...recently i did a master reset of the phone, then unlocked it again...The reception somehow was improved--it was still not perfect, but i think it was definitely better than before. As for battery life, it's pretty good as long as wifi is not constatnly on. Battery life is still good even with heavy music and video usage. |
i wonder if any of the apple retail stores still have the 4gb one... |
^ Yes. Bellevue Square still have the 4GB version available but at $299. |
hm..... to buy or not to buy..... |

how do you turn T9 off? and how do you transfer camera roll pictures to your computer? |
There is no T9, it's a special text prediction system. To turn it off: http://www.hacktheiphone.com/74/ipho...on_mac_74.html Works on Windows too, but you need to use WinSCP instead of Fugu as stated on the page. |

Probably better than SE phones, just because it uses so much more power with the big screen and all that. I can use my iPhone for a lonnnnnng time, with pretty intense video and music use (like a few J-dramas and a movie), as well as a decent amount of WiFi (say, 2 hours?). That's one charge, and over 2 days. |

Mind you i always turn wifi off when i didn't need it. With wifi on and heavy video/music usage at the same time, the battery on mine drains quite very quickly. |

Wouldnt the battery drain faster with a larger higher resolution screen? |
I dunno, mine seems to be able to keep on keepin' on. I'm keeping the screen on for maybe 3 hours total, and the rest it's off. Granted, the one thing here is that I maybe have a call or two only in this period, so there's less drain there. If I had a few calls, maybe a movie, a few hours of music, it'll probably be close to 20% (or lower) by the end of the day. |
anyone find a nice-ish case/cover for it yet? i don't really wanna slap a silicone sleeve on this thing |
Yeah, I have two rubberized cases. There's a pic of the black one in the "Show off your phones" thread, and I'll be putting up a pic of the red one later. I love it, just arrived today! Got some funky metallic colouring to it too...hehehe |
