song huong restaurant in Nanaimo north of E.1st

Really great rice paper wraps. Enjoyed it except for the service. Had to Re-order my meat and drink atleast once of each. A few of the waiters don't even speak english since I am not vietnamese :(

I recommend this place for making wraps imo

8/10

The eatery - 7/10

Messed up looking interior and the place was loud as fuck. Also the tables were miniature sized and our waitress messed up our order (probably cause no one can hear shit inside)

William Tell

7/10

The food was good, had a lamb dish with vegetables and potatoes. Only thing that wasn't too good was the wine was corked. I could taste a big difference between my first and second glass of wine.

BT Cafe

7/10

Service was surprisingly good considering it's a Chinese restaurant LOL.
The food was okay and the prices were comparable to other HK style cafe's (that is, it was not as cheap as previous posters made it out to be lol)

We spent about 10 bux per person including tip.

If you want the cheap stuff, check out the the all-day breakfast section. I would have ordered from there but I must have missed it then. :)

I'll be back to try their all day breakfast ($4.75). :drool

mako 12-04-2010 12:17 PM

Uncle Mings
Spicy Chicken and Eggplant on Rice

5.50 lunch unbeatable

You know, most, if not all, other HK joints only have set mini-menu (i.e. $6.50 w/ drink) between set times (e.g. after 9pm). Considering BT doesn't, it means cheap eats for all their entire opening hours.

TOS'd 12-04-2010 12:42 PM

^ Plus cold drinks don't cost extra money (in set meals).

Kent's Kitchen on Victoria Drive.

8/10

Great selection, great value (lots of food), super cheap! (5 bux/person), but super duper greasy!

noobz 12-04-2010 01:50 PM

Dairy Queen

9/10

Got the chocolate dip ice cream cone! It was amazing! Super filling too LOL :drool

It was 5 bux.

bcrdukes 12-04-2010 03:27 PM

Living up to the online moniker, I see.

mk1freak 12-04-2010 03:36 PM

kiyoshi sushi, prairie at coast meridian (poco)

expensive.

tried the chicken teriyaki lunch box, the chicken was saucy, tempura average 5 pieces, weak california roll, really like the gyoza though looks like they deep fried it right after steaming it. the salad dressing was good though it wasn;t the wet stuff that other places give out, came with miso.
also had the chicken karaage...the style was different covered in black sesame and other herbs(it looked like they didnt use cornstarch/flour) and they use hella lot of seasalt(added after cooking). it was well done(as in cooking)
service was sucky..looked like they would rather chitchat.

@bcr the ginger was pink and the wasabi was standard.(not too dry not to wet)

i'd rate it about a 6.5/10

9.95 for the lunch box
6.95 for the karaage (6 wings)

bcrdukes 12-04-2010 03:55 PM

Karma for your duck confit. :D

mk1freak 12-04-2010 04:56 PM

FYI the duck confit was a 20/10

Purely 12-04-2010 05:22 PM

Angel Cafe- 7/10 portions are way too small now..
Ecanteen-8.5/10 good as usual

ilvtofu 12-04-2010 05:26 PM

Me cafe, just your normal bbt place quality of food and drinks
But you can request your own room which is great for studying/chilling with friends
Probably play cards too. First time here, surprise prices were reasonable compared to that shithole twinkle and other joints in richmond

ilvtofu 12-04-2010 06:59 PM

evil_jigglypuff 12-05-2010 07:55 AM

Finally went to BT Cafe which a lot of people on here have been raving about.
Gf odered the Bt spaghetti. I had the beef brisket in flat noodles, mushroom omelette with a french taost. Everything cost under $20

Food was pretty good and serving is pretty big(she only ordered the small with the drink). Also service was pretty fast. It was actually our second time coming here. 1st time though, neither of us didn't have cash so we went elswhere.

Just for the record, TOS'd bailed on us.

Which made my experience all that much miserable. -5/10.

bcrdukes 12-05-2010 09:32 AM

I was trying to forget that ever happened but now that you've brought it up, I'm going to rate this dining experience a -10/10.

My deepest emotions are shattered.

ilvtofu 12-05-2010 09:37 AM

Neptune for dim sum no 3 and ackroyd

First time here lots of great food 9/10
-baked durian pastry was really fresh

So far only not liking the rice because they throw a lot of Ginger in it and every spoonful gives me a mouthful of Ginger
Surprised I've never tried this place for dim sum. Might be my new favorite

Edit: oh boy... They sure love ginger
