Wellwood!

AzNightmare 11-02-2008 08:22 PM

Damn, maybe some one that plays ice hockey can explain to me.

Why do sometimes on the PK, some teams play a small box and let the PP team pass around and shoot. While other times on the PK, they PK players are aggressive and go after whoever has the puck on the PP team?

I realized having Luongo as captain is not a good idea. With the minutes dying down and Canucks are down by one, they always need to go behind the net to get a prep talk from their Captain.

Well, I don't play, but from several years of watching, I can offer a few suggestions:

If the penalty killers are tired (long shift, later in game with lots of ice time, older/slower) players, they may not have the speed/energy for an aggressive PK.

Would also depend on how well the PP is passing - if they're making a lot of outside passes, or missing passes, it makes it easier and more effective to go after them and force them to keep moving the puck around the outside. If their passing is sharp and they're keeping the puck in tight, you want to collapse back and try to block/intercept/clear the passes from there.

Its just a penalty kill strategy. Leave the point open and collapse in the slot.

woo..good game

AzNightmare 11-02-2008 08:36 PM

The reason is almost always, I've found aggressive PK beneficial, especially forcing bad passes from the nervous and inexperienced. Also, it's a great way of getting a SH goal. I guess I can understand being tired from a long shift, but I really despise the inside box strategy. Just gives the other team way too much time.

jigga250 11-02-2008 08:42 PM

not a bad game, aside from the PP being absolute shit for the most part.....

Harvey Specter 11-02-2008 09:09 PM

The Canucks PK and PP killed them tonight.

Stevie P 11-02-2008 09:41 PM

Detroit showed us why they have the best PP in the league.

Hondaracer 11-02-2008 09:45 PM

pretty entertaining game, and Wellwood once again proves his worth, but yea we got killed by the PK and PP, good to see we actually brought it to them throughout the 3rd though and didnt sit back till the last 2 minutes

Hondaracer 11-02-2008 09:50 PM
