Sundin is old and injury prone so how in the hell do you justify paying that kind of money for a player who might miss a ton of games? Imo the Canucks don't need to take an expensive risk which most likely will back fire in their faces. Can anyone say Messier?

And I agree, the Oilers look deadly.

bossxx 07-01-2008 02:05 PM

But what is the point of getting a guy like Sundin who does not help your franchise in the long term at all?

I don't see how he fits in with the Canucks plans that's all.

I know its easier said than done to bring in a bunch of young superstars or guys who have a lot of potential still but honestly, Sundin is simular to Naslund in a number of ways. Old European, never gonna win a cup and no longer regarded as a huge threat on the ice.

Sundin is gonna milk his last two NHL seasons for whatever he can get and I would be pretty sad if the Canucks go for this one. We might as well resign Naslund. Sundin should stay a Leaf for life. I hate it when guys don't stay loyal to their team after being with them 10-15 years.. In Sundins case 18 years I think.

So basically you guys are saying that we should just sign him because it's only for two years and then there should be better UFA's available by then? I'm not sure that's the best strategy out there lol

He isn't worth 10 million but injury prone is like the worst thing you can use to describe Mats Sundin. Seriously, the guy has averaged 77 games played a year over the last 7 years thats hardly injury prone. I'd actually argue the opposite he'll play through injuries, is rugged and guarantees you at least a point a game on average.

Gillis is going for teh cup in the next 2 seasons.
he sees an oppurtunity cause we HAVE luongo RIGHT NOW.
however in the long run, w ho knows how much he will cost to resign,
or if he will even stay with a team who hasn't contended for the cup.

With sundin, u have a guy who can play. and with good line mates,
he can help us win the cup.

sometimes u gotta take the risks..

Well he better hurry up unless he thinkg wellwood is the save all :haha:

b0unce. [?] 07-01-2008 02:15 PM

at first when i saw the sundin deal, thought it was too much at 10 mil per season.. but then you realize its only for 2 years which doesnt tie us down with him :P

but calgary, and oils seem to be making SMART moves atm, nothing too huge.

LOL @ the jeff finger deal. and huet deal

still wish we got some more young players.

AX.Deadpool 07-01-2008 02:15 PM

ugh.. rolston 5mil 4 years at NJD... GILLIS WHER THE FUK ARE U!

b0unce. [?] 07-01-2008 02:16 PM

rolston goes to the devils.

sorda glad naslund isnt getting THAT much hype.

i mean, if sundin does come here, i'd say sign nazzy, and grab another player for that line.. i think it would work out.

and didnt the wild sign vorros?

stuff99 07-01-2008 02:17 PM

well considering there's nothing else out there and hossa is gonna probably command more years than 2 sundin deal doesnt look that bad.

we would have that money to free up for luongo when his contract is up

murd0c 07-01-2008 02:19 PM

I'm cheering for Chicago this season lol.

Harvey Specter 07-01-2008 02:22 PM

No point of going back and fourth about Sundin, all I will say is it will be a huge mistake for the Canucks to get him.

well thats probably because most players receiver offers from SEVERAL teams, and only end up playing for ONE of those teams.

RiceIntegraRS 07-01-2008 02:23 PM

In this day and age. Nhl teams are signing good young players to long term deals in hopes that they become superstars and to be look at as bargains in the future. Sometimes they pan out sometimes they dont. But that takes time. Something the Canucks dont have alot of. We have argueably the best Goalie in the World, A strong Defence. 2 Top 20 scorers who are making like half of wat they should be making. And a shitload of money to spend.

Sundin worth 10mil? No.
Is it a bad signing? No.
Will he help this team? Yes

But hopefully Sundin makes a decision quick so we dont miss out on the boat with other players that could potentially get signed.
