The 8900 has Wifi and GPS - what the Curve sorely lacked (in one package)

Javelin/Curve 8900 has no 3G

It's still slow on WiFi or 3G? Man, that's disappointing. EDGE is definitely slow but it beats having nothing at all.

^it has wifi. No 3G

Disable Javascript in the options or use Opera Mini. I have no speed issues on BB browser once javascript is disabled.

TirelessTongue 12-07-2008 01:26 PM

Opera Mini also lets you bypass the file size limit for downloading. I downloaded a 30 MB porn video from tube8 (they have .3gp versions of all their clips) the other day and was watching it with the volume turned up all the way while walking down on Robson with my friend, who was trying to pretend he wasn't with me...

Gh0stRider 12-07-2008 02:57 PM

Link to the video? lol

jeff19 12-07-2008 02:59 PM

holy shit opera mini is HELLA faster than the built in browser ~!

Can you only use opera mini with wifi?

jeff19 12-07-2008 07:46 PM

nope. wroks with 3g too

TirelessTongue 12-07-2008 10:02 PM

Strange, I don't find it any faster.

jeff19 12-07-2008 10:23 PM

or maybe the browser on mine was just ridiculously slow :S. loading the home screen on Revsene took at least a minute to fully load. Opera browser does it now in less than 7 seconds.. lol

03aspec 12-07-2008 10:53 PM

the 8900 javelin or curve is out in some parts of eastern canada.. theres already a review of it on crackberry

Yes. You download MP3s right to the phone from a computer, just like any other phone that supports mp3 ringtones.

The only thing you can't do on a locked Bold is use a sim card from another carrier.

Gh0stRider 12-08-2008 03:34 PM

Anyone using the bold to tether? Whats you speed like?

I dont have a creaky batter cover but my left bezel near the battery recharge port is pretty creaky.

Overall I like the phone quite a bit. But coming from an iphone I find the bb bold a bit fragile.

How is everyone's bold when they bought or receive it?

My came through Rogers and it kinda seems like a refurb / not new. I mean the battery came 3/4 charged already

No clue. Would APN affect it? I set mine to internet.com

Gh0stRider 12-09-2008 08:26 PM

Ya, mine is set to internet.com as well.
