For you guys converting video to put on the Bold, I think I've found the best software. It even has a preset for the BB Bold. Version 1.1 can convert MKV, DivX, Xvid video right to the phone and stretch movies to fill the screen. Quality is at par with the demo videos on the phone.

Only kicker is you need a pretty recent Nvidia video card (Geforce 8 series and newer) to use this software.

It's called Badaboom. The free trial has an annoying watermark and limits you to 30 conversions.

Could just use Super. Convert almost any format into any other format. No codec required. (it's built into the app). Very flexible in terms of resolutions, bitrate, etc you can set it to and relatively fast. Plus it's free so no watermarks or time limits before it stops working.

Upgraded to 190. Phonebook issue is resolved.

hmmm...just tried "super" and the quality is horrible. There's also a green bar going down the right side. What setting are you using?

The file i'm testing on is a small HD mkv file.

I was converting an XviD video. All I changed was the resolution to match the Bold (480x320) and set it to convert. Everything was default. The green bar may possibly be a resolution mismatch?

i just got the bold and they gave me a new sim card cause i signed up on a new contract i put my old sim card into the bold to put all my contacts in there. My question is how do i transfer my contacts that are in the bold right now to my new sim card?

Gh0stRider 12-30-2008 12:45 AM

back up your address book using desktop manager. put the new sim card in and restore the address book to the new card.

Maybe its just me or you're using an older version of DM, but isnt there a button/option that specifically says "backup/restore data?"

I'm using 4.6 DM and ya I see the button backup/ restore but nothing about saving to the sim card

You could try this, seems pretty fail proof

1) Save contacts from old sim to blackberry
2) Turn off blackberry and switch sim cards
3) Copy contacts from blackberry to new sim

I've done it on countless phones in the past, I dont see why it
wouldnt work on the bb

Pinky V1.1 12-30-2008 03:12 PM

its alot easier to do if you have outlook installed, you can sync the contacts with your outlook address book

Go to your address book on the BB
Click the BB button - go to SIM phone book
Click BB button again - Select Copy all to contacts

That puts it all into your BB phone book.

Then pull that SIM and put your new one in.

En4cer 12-30-2008 04:11 PM

That's what I thought at first too but u can't copy the sims from blackberry to phone unless u do one by one but coping all at once u cant

Pinky V1.1 12-30-2008 04:57 PM

if you have outlook installed, you could sync your contacts that way

RIM has to make the buggiest software...

I was in Florida for the past week and my brother triggered the secure wipe by putting in the wrong password 10 times while playing with my Bold. I had made a backup just before leaving for my trip and thought I'd be fine since I could just restore... but NO! Every time I select the backup file from Desktop Manager, I get an "unhandled win32 exception occurred in DesktopMgr.exe" crash. The worst thing is I have very critical information on there.

I will pay anyone that can solve my problem. If I can't restore this data, it could destroy my life.
