Any one know if cabs are running?

flameboy54 12-24-2008 03:28 PM

The skytrain's completely fucked!! I didn't even try to get on at Waterfront after hearing that a tree fell by Nanaimo. I hoped on the #20 and cruised all the way home. Passed by Broadway station and saw there was a line up on the platform that extended ACROSS THE OVERPASS to the North side (leading to the Millenium station)!!! Sucks to be the persons relying on the skytrain to get home.

Damn...how does a tree fall by the skytrain at Nanaimo? That whole portion is off the ground (like 20ft off the ground). Only the portion between 29th Ave and Nanaimo is ground level and even then, there's a 10ft fence around it.

I should let my bro know since he's skytraining it back from Stadium.

I'm very tempted to go to the park next to VCC with my snowboard right now.

LsquareD 12-24-2008 05:34 PM

Waited 30 minutes for the #16 bus in the snow.. Never came so I walked. I got to the skytrain and what do you know.. A branch fell onto the skytrain tracks and the skytrains were delayed like crazy. Waited another 20 minutes. Finally, I got off at Commercial and theres a fat lineup to take the Broadway East and West Bound skytrains. Fuck you transit + snow!

Anyways, there's 3 abandoned cars near my house.. Ouch :(

If anyone is going to even try drive down a side street, please, please throw a shovel in your trunk before you head out so you can actually dig yourself out if you get stuck. I've lost count on how many cars I've seen stuck in side streets (and helped dig/push out) because of no traction. Most of them are running on all seasons, and apparently they're unfamiliar with driving in snow.

If you get stuck, try rocking the car back and forth (switching back and forth between reverse and a forward gear) until you get traction. More gas isn't going to get you anywhere fast.

If you have a shovel, try to dig out the drive wheels (front on a FWD, rear on a RWD, etc) until you hit clear road. You'll need it to get some traction.

Also, leave plenty of room between yourself and the car in front of you in case you hit black ice when stopping. Brake way in advance and gradually to avoid locking up the tires if there's ice or slippery conditions.

Also, try to stay as far right as possible to avoid spray from the opposite direction, and the crazy ass mofos who think they're invincible. It's better to just stay out of their way than to aggravate them.

Stay safe everyone!

Its not the crazy ass mofos who think they are invincible, its the crazy ass mofos that think they are invincible and don't know how to drive, then the idiots that don't know how to drive, don't have a car that can be properly driven, or both!

Staying as far right as possible does not help if you are in between two lanes. When there are two lanes open, stick to one lane, hogging up both lanes and doing a supersonic 15km/h is gonna piss off a whole shit load of people.

AND OMG, SIGNAL, the roads are already bad enough, I see ppl jumping over lanes to avoid piles of snow. Not blaming you, but signal!

Peturbo 12-25-2008 12:43 AM

EvoFire 12-25-2008 01:00 AM

It was raining a little while ago here around Killarney... seems like it has stopped and there isn't nothing falling from the sky as of now.... Environment Canada says a possible 10cm for tonight, though its gonna be wet and may rain in some areas.

Harvey Specter 12-25-2008 01:19 AM

YESSSSS, wet snow around here.
