yeah becareful out there guys. saw 3 beached cars going down no 5 road earlier. i almost lost control 2 times within 2 minutes while going 35 km/h

orange7 12-29-2008 09:20 PM

got stuck near Dinan_3's house...
luckily I was smart enough to take out my back seat's rubber mats and used them as a rough surface for my front to wheels to get unstuck

seriously.. engineering really helps..

Just came back from eating dinner, and yeah, it's NASTY out there right now... ten times worse than driving on snow.

Driving down Boundry rd from Kingsway north bound was a little sketchy. After passing Lougheed, it was completely iced up. I was going 25 km/h and in 4th gear I can give it a little bit of gas and the back end would start to step out, and this is in my S2000 with snow tires that are an inch taller than stock.

It was very scary trying to muscle my way up Boundry rd to make the right turn onto Hastings st.

From there the road wasn't too bad until I made the right turn to go up Burnaby mt. parkway to head up to SFU. That road is really icy and going uphill I had to leave the car in 4th gear going 40 km/h. Any faster the the rear wheels start to spin and the back end wants to go drifto.

Armind 12-29-2008 09:29 PM

Damn eh? One problem after another. Sigh..

Amen. Went to rent some DVD's from Blockbuster on 37th & West Blvd, and it was icy all the way from my house near 57th! I was very cautious walking to and from the car!

Black ice + tailgaters = bad.

Just imagining that is pretty scary.

Yeah i was driving my girlfriend home from east van to burnaby, every single road and intersection is a sheet of ice. Even when i'm driving straight & slow i have to make tiny corrections due to the car slipping... Saw a couple of accidents so SLOW DOWN, especially on any downhill slope!

flameboy54 12-29-2008 10:31 PM

Just got home. Super nasty out there. Was cruising down the small hill just before Knight on 41st (Culloden I think?) approaching the light and was sliding down. Glad to be home, that's for sure.

HonestTea 12-29-2008 10:51 PM

Okay, I just got home from Joey Tomato's in Burnaby/Coquitlam and let me tell you..the roads are ICED up..Black ice even...I was driving under 50 and everytime I slowly pressed on the brakes, it slid a bit before the brakes actually kicked it...pretty scary...especially when you're going up a hill, not even that steep..just a normal hill and you start giving it gas, the car keeps sliding and the tires keep spinning but no traction whatsoever ...

guess i'm not going out anymore tonight.. haha

Some dumbshit CR-V was tailing me up boundary. as I was turning right going up the 29th merger my rear broke loose and I was trying to regain control. Miracle! I missed the island but it looked behind me the CR-V didn't. Understeered right in... He was nice and far away from me after that. I LoL'd:haha:

KO7 12-29-2008 11:19 PM

My ABS kicked in while already slowed down to <20 km/hr coming to a stop behind another car. Scared me enough to stay the heck away from cars in front of me.

I did laughing!

Synaptik 12-29-2008 11:35 PM

drove home from richmond auto mall onto highway and along 72nd in surrey, black ice everywhere. even mdx's awd is useless, rubber on ice is rubber on ice whether four wheels or two.

I just got back from Joey's as well haha

Things are really sketchy right now, especially on on/off ramps to the highways. I didn't experience any sliding my whole way home, but my tires did slip a bit when I was accelerating from a stop a few times.

!LittleDragon 12-29-2008 11:41 PM

I was going like 25 on about 41st and Oak and the rear end kicked out really far and almost did a 180. Luckily I was able to recover from it. It's hard to fight reflex and not hit the brakes in a RWD car. Be careful out there

Eff-1 12-29-2008 11:43 PM

Just got home. Holy moly I can't remember it ever being so slick and icy. Winter tires are worth squat in these conditions. Treacherous to say the least...

Gh0stRider 12-29-2008 11:54 PM

sure is slippery out there.

smoothie. 12-30-2008 12:20 AM

snow on the roads was muchhhh better

tonight was nuts

iwantaskyline 12-30-2008 12:51 AM

I'm guessing they had no traction being a RWD with probably no weight on the rear wheels. My buddy had to walk home from the bottom of that hill because of that damn car.

Yeah...the spade peels the ice/compacted snow right off the road. It literally comes off in sheets that you can throw into the snow pile, or pick up with the snow shovel. Snow shovels usually just get stuck when you hit compacted snow.

Here's a pic of my back lane after about an hour of shovelling. (I think this was around Christmas Eve or Christmas Day before the 3rd dumping of snow) The pile on the centre left is no longer there and was all moved up against the green shed in the background so guests could park in front of our garage, so that pile by the shed is now twice as high.

We cleared out a path all the way to the end of the block:

Turn 180 degrees around and see what my lazy ass neighbours have done:

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/7406/img5575kt8.jpg

There's almost always a car stuck on the other side. I never exit from that side, hence I didn't plow all the way to the end of the block there. (plus it's actually longer to that end of the block)

Not that hard. Three or four rounds with the spade, and the snow shovel and I've got a clean path to the end of the block. I just wish people would put in a little effort to do the little piece in front of their house so there would be less havoc in the back lanes. Of course it took less than two hours for some fuckers to block each one of those lanes I had cleared out with their cars so I couldn't get through.

i did the same thing... fuck my neighbors
