While outdoor hockey may well be the last thing on fans minds at the moment, the NHL will formally announce the locations of dual Winter Classic games next season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will host the Washington Capitals at Heinz Field on New Year's Day, while the Montreal Canadiens will travel to Calgary sometime in February to face the Flames at McMahon Stadium.

This will be the second time that a Canadian city has hosted an outdoor game after Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium set the standard in the inaugural Winter Classic between the Oilers and Canadiens in 2003.

This will also be the second time that the Pittsburgh Penguins have been involved in the Winter Classic after they faced the Buffalo Sabres at Ralph Wilson Stadium in 2008.

I would have rather seen the Canucks play the Flames outdoors.

Probably wouldn't have been the Habs if they didn't have the playoff run they had. Very well could've been the Canucks...

Well, removing my homer-ism, I can understand the Flames point of view from some of the comments. It's Kiprusoff vs Daniel Sedin. Not "The Sedins." Anything from before Daniel touched the puck technically shouldn't have been included in part of the vote. After the ESP pass, had Daniel just wristed it 5 hole to score. The video wouldn't have even been nominated for this contest. Most of the votes were probably taken in factor of the complete play as well as the "importance" of that game. (Hat trick, and Henrik racking enough pts to win the scoring title). So then when you break it down to just purely the save vs the goal, we've seen many between the leg shots like that over the years, but seldom (actually I personally never) seen a save like that before, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt that Hasek probably pulled off a few of these.

Oh well, I would have voted for Daniel anyway, but just my honest non-Canuck-biased opinion.

The play should be "The Sedins" and not Daniel Sedin. The contest is for "Play of the Year", and there's no reason that it needs to be credited to one person. The "play" includes whatever that leads up to it, not just the finish.

Pittsburgh and Montreal in their 2nd outdoor games? Is anyone else annoyed with this? IMO other teams should've got a shot at playing in an outdoor game before Pittsburgh and Montreal got their 2nd. I would've much rather seen Wash/NJ/NYI vs NYR @ Yankee Stadium and Van/Ott vs Cal for the Canadian outdoor game.

That's BS coming from Gillis. They had so many opportunities to rest Luongo but chose instead to ride him like a porn star.
