Glad Wellwood is staying.

Nice, I'd put Welly on the 3rd line.. He's only 26 and still has potential for 50-60 pts a season..

Where do you put Raymond? Bernier? Maybe Hodgson? etc.. ahah

Looks like the NHL rejected Basille's bid, now hes whining like a little girl lol! He could've had a team long long time ago...

hotjoint 07-30-2009 08:41 AM

wicked news, wellwood is a great fit for this team

Chairman Kaga 07-30-2009 09:08 AM

Balsillie would of had a team a long time ago if he didn't try to go all rogue on them and force it.

He might have a lot of money but the guy seems like he has no respect for the process lol

Soundy 07-30-2009 10:44 AM

^That's because Bettman has no respect for hockey.

Beat me to it.

Bettman is pretty much the guy standing in the way of Basille. He has a hard-on for "american" hockey.

shawn79 07-30-2009 10:57 AM

i talked to shaone morrisonn yesterday he said he might be traded to vancouver

I'm with Kaga on this one. Sure everyone would love another team in Canada, but there is a process to go about it. You can't just go bidding on teams that are already in a specific market (albeit a crappy one) and then move it just because. He could've bought the Pens or the Preds, or the Yotes if he just kept his mouth shut.

Instead he bids on a team and he doesn't even own yet, and publicly declares that he is moving them and is selling tickets already. It just doesn't sit well with me. Would've made more sense to bid, buy it and then do whatever you want with it. Instead of completing the first step which is ownership he wants to go straight to the finish line.

NHL's Board of Governor's UNANIMOUSLY voted against Balsillie.

I hate him as much as the rest of you but Bettman had very little to do with that.

Kyle Wellwood found his form in Vancouver after struggling in Toronto.

THE CANADIAN PRESS

VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed centre Kyle Wellwood to a US$1.2-million, one-year contract following an arbitrator's decision Thursday.

Wellwood, 26, had a career-high 18 goals and nine assists in 74 games for the Canucks last season. He also had 10 power-play goals.

In 10 playoff games, he had one goal and five assists.

"It's very good to have Kyle playing for the franchise," said Laurence Gilman, the Canucks' assistant general manager."He came in, worked very hard, and contributed to our team, both in the regular season and the playoffs."

Wellwood earned $997,500 last season. He filed for arbitration after receiving a $1 million qualifying offer from the Canucks.

The Windsor, Ont., native was originally selected 134th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2001 draft.

Wellwood came to Vancouver after the Leafs did not resign him. He came to camp out of shape and, at one point, the Canucks placed him on waivers.

He rebounded with a good first half of the season, then struggled through a 21-game drought without scoring.

Meh, I'm not upset that he got a 200,000 raise but 1m was enough for Wellwood.

murd0c 07-30-2009 04:33 PM

as long as hes been working out and keeping up with his diet all summer I think 200k is worth it. If he comes in tubby like last year that would be a joke.

mako 07-30-2009 04:37 PM

awesome news

cressydrift 07-30-2009 09:27 PM

So many times Wellfeed gave me a heart attack last season. Hes to small, to weak to play. Plus he was a fat fuck from Toronto. I cant argue with the guys at work (they hate the Canucks) when they say "Might as well play Air Bud"? Ive seen dogs play better hockey than this asshole. We need a puck moving, non-glassy defenceman. PERIOD!!!!!!!

LOL....Who would you rather have beside Wellwood?. Summer signings/trade isn't over yet so relax over there before you get a heart attack.

RRxtar 07-30-2009 09:52 PM

wellwood came in as a tubby tubberson last season because his leg was in a cast untill the end of july.

.... i think

Harvey Specter 07-30-2009 10:13 PM
