i managed to find an old cwm backup that i made for my phone when i was still running the old rooted gb 2.3.5 rom... restored it via cwm recovery and viola, the stupid roaming msg is gone + the sygic gps is working flawlessly once again...

details on this backup file are as follows:

- gb 2.3.5 rooted stock rom
- i used titanium backup to get rid of all the bloatware

i'm not totally sure but i think the roaming error message i was getting with ics is maybe somehow interfering with sygic gps?

this are the methods i've done to upgrade it to ics:

1- flashed this stock ics 4.0.3 and rooted with compatible cf root via odin:

I9100XXLPS Download (Thanks To SamMobile!)
Base Firmware: I9100XXLPS (4.0.3)
Region Poland (XEO)
Carrier: NA (Unbranded)
Build Date: 25th March 2012
Modem: XXLPS
CSC: OXALPS
Change List: 294511
CF-Root v5.4 LPS: Download

link - [Stock Official ICS Firmwares] I9100UHLPS (4.0.3) - Argentina (ARO) [30-06-12] - xda-developers

2- tried out 2 different slimmed down custom roms from this link, then 2 different almost stock custom rom minus the bloatware but roaming error msg + sygic gps problems still persists

[RENEWED!][04/07 UPDATE] INDEX of ROMS [Android Development] - xda-developers

3- reflashed back to stock ics firmware + root from step #1 but roaming error msg + sygic gps problems still persists

now u guys might wonder why i used the poland firmware? thats because theres no official release for north america yet (according to xda forum resources) and the baseband version on my stable GB firmware was i9100xxki3 and when i did some research the xxki3 is what they use in poland for their GB firmwares...

so how the hell am i gonna upgrade to ics the right way this time and have everything stable? calling all rs mobile geeks!

i was tempted to go from gingerbread to ics with my S2 as well. but, seeing the troubles that you are having with it, i think i am gonna hold off for now. hope someone on here can help you to solve this. good luck.

You don't need to be scared. It's extremely easy to upgrade. He just had problems with his GPS. If you want to upgrade, go for resurrection remix 2.5.3. It is an absolute beast of a ROM with jelly bean transitions. I'm on my phone now but go YouTube search zedomax resurrection remix 2.5.3 for the review. It's even faster than the s3 at opening apps.

you! 07-07-2012 02:33 PM

yep very easy to upg... totally worth it if u don't use offline gps like myself and usually use google maps with data anyways

so with the help of ramonhardgay and more research and testing, i've tried out the best and most popular ics roms out there like the litening and resurrection roms but offline gps tracking still didn't work... apparently everyone in xda forums is having the same problem as me and concluded that offline gps just doesn't work with ics, i even tried this on stock ics firmware and still no luck

as for now i've stuck with gb checkrom + custom kernel that's geared for batt life and performance and have been loving it so far... longest the fone has lasted so far was 1 day and 7hrs with heavy usage via youtube, browser, etc, + 3hrs of voice calls.. and best of all my sygic works flawlessly again so no complaints so far

so to sum things up, i would go back to ics and run resurrection only if i had data and am able to do online gps via google maps.. but since i have to rely on offline gps then no choice but to use gb.. bleh its all worth it anyways since the offline gps is very handy when i drive around US :)

You can always run ICS as for your every day ROM, and use a Nandroid backup for the offline GPS. But of course this depends how often you're down in the States.

I use Google maps lots as my main gps as well with my data. Can you please post the link of how to upgrade and flash to ICS? Thanks so much and gladly appreciate it.

Wow finally. Has anyone tried it?

Some people reported bricked phone within few hours of the release..
Due the something with a bugged kernal ..or people that flashed custom kernal with it the rom

**EDIT** people were flashing 4.0.3 kernal.. but the rom was 4.0.4. .. thus the reason for the brick!!

Not sure about the detail but doesnt look good for the CheckRom..
Didnt read all the post...

I dont see a reason to flash any other rom for my sgs2 atm because my res. remix is so gooooooood!!!. :concentrate:

Has resurrection remix become that good? When I had it back in March or so there were tons of bugs.
I glanced at checkroms forums, it doesn't look good for them

I always used CheckROM v6 because the ICS updates at the time were shit as you said.

Yeah the v4 and v6 were pretty solid from what I remember.
But when ICS came out it was hard to stay on GB

Gh0stRider 07-07-2012 09:34 PM

im resurrection only now.

AW607 07-07-2012 11:34 PM

Probably reception problems.. I don't always receive texts on time, sometimes they're really late or I don't receive them at all, the same goes for phonecalls; my phone sometimes doesn't ring at all when somebody calls, and this happens often. Could this be a provider issue or the phone itself?

Canadian Rider 07-08-2012 12:17 AM

im dual booting resurrection remix 2.5.3 for everyday (because it's amazing) and sensation rom for battery life at work (samsung roms have always given me better battery).. i would highly suggest either

Razor Ramon HG 07-08-2012 12:18 AM

Most likely a carrier issue with content not being pushed properly. Give it a few days, then call in.

Thanks, it's been happening for a couple weeks and I always presumed it was the phone because sometimes I don't get strong reception where I live (3 story apartment building, living on the bottom floor), as well as having it in my pocket all the time and having a hypothesis of mine that the signal's getting 'stale' :derp:

I send a message and sometimes I get a flurry of messages thrown at me at once. It really annoys me and everyone else that tries to get a hold of me haha :fuuuuu:

I tried it but reflashed back to v6. It's pretty stable but the problem is the kernel support which means no cwm so if i were u guys id wait for that fix.

dyan 07-11-2012 11:27 PM

Tried the new checkrom V7.. didn't like it. Hopped over to ressurection remix. Loving it so much :)

J-force 07-22-2012 08:48 PM

Gh0stRider 07-22-2012 11:30 PM

my battery life :fuuuuu:

Android OS using up 75% of it...wtf

Razor Ramon HG 07-22-2012 11:44 PM

The S2 should be able to play GTA. I was able to.

Try installing an APK.
