they fucked up.

Update: Whoops, the LTE hype in Canada was just a bit eager today. Apparently the Rogers launch of the LTE GSII is now not happening on the 28th, we heard from Rogers that the Twitter message was an error and that “a launch date for the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE has not yet been announced. Existing Rogers customers can reserve the device through the Rogers Reservation System which can be accessed through My Rogers.” In addition, on Twitter they noted that “I misunderstood the info I had because our LTE launch in Toronto is confirmed to the 28th but for the device, no confirmed date”… so now we wait, most likely until the Fall as they originally announced a couple weeks back.

Does it flash just for SMS or for whatsapp as well?

How do you guys like the new Market update? I think it's really smooth and clean. Better organized too...

It doesn't work with the stock SMS app since that app has no hook for polling the light.

I use GO SMS, Whatsapp and Ebuddy. Stock SMS doesn't work.

I have a friend who says he can't find the tethering option on his SGS2... Do carriers in Canada disable it, or is he just dumb?

Confirmed by a few ppl in this thread that it's available in the settings.

Settings / Wireless and Network / Tethering and portable hotspot

My phone is factory unlocked so I'm not sure if it's there on the Bell version...I did a little search and I don't think Bell blocked the option...If it's there, try going to:

Settings ---> Wireless and Networks ---> Tethering and Portable Hotspots

If it's available, it will be THERE.

You could try rooting it and then installing this app android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting

You could also root it and flash a custom AOSP rom (if available) that has native tethering built in...

EDIT: Mikroft beat me to it. If it doesn't show in your menu then, give the phone root-access and install the option.

SkinnyPupp 09-16-2011 07:28 PM

So it's not in the status blind where it normally is on all other Android phones?

I was playing around with the demo SGS2 at Best Buy today. Its a Bell phone and it DOES have the tethering option in the settings.

I believe mobile hotspot option was moved in the menu location due to Gingerbread? I think most of the other Android devices you see are still on Froyo? But I could be wrong, I haven't played with my friend's SGSII enough.

Yes, there are apps out there that will let you control that stuff.
But the question is why? What is running for you that you don't want to?

gdoh 09-21-2011 11:40 AM

facebook, twitter, maps, games and other useless stuff that doesnt need to be running when im not using them
