Haven't run into any issues with mine yet, it's still on the old firmware too. But I have been thinking of making a shield of some sort for it; there's some sheet metal in the garage still, so maybe that and a bit of white spray paint will do.

Though honestly, you need some good ol' sun on the unit to overheat it. Sun showing up in Vancouver? Blasphemy.

Well I am pretty sure that most if not all the ppl that hardwired their camera to their dome light, prolly have a higher chance of overheating.

I was skimming through a monster Blackvue thread on RFD, and read about some overheating issues. The Blackvue does get warm under normal operation. Typically, it seemed like an issue with summer heat, and the parking mode, since it keeps the camera powered.

godwin 06-27-2012 08:22 AM

No it wont increase the chance of overheating, if you use the correct gauge wire.. it is more likely due to TO weather pushing it pass the thermo envelope.

From the video, it looks like the CCD is delaminating more than anything. No firmware will be able to fix that.

Toronto's weather is only around 20-23°C lately.

Although Vancouver rains 340+ days a year....it's not uncommon to reach 25°C+ weather during the summer.

godwin 06-27-2012 08:50 AM

No there were a few 30+ days OUTSIDE.. not inside of the car.

Heating issue is normal for Dr400. Please don't use your hands to touch Dr400 after a long time trip driving. The temprature might be 60-70.Not a big deal of that. That's normal.
And also Blackvue new model DR380 solved heating issue. The only difference between dr380 and dr 400 is the color, and dr380 got 720p HD. Dr400 is 1080 Full HD. Dr 380 is one kind of stealthy black color.

I've just got my Blackvue dr400g installed and noticed that I got a lot of window glare when I'm driving facing the sun, anyway to fix this? Thanks

You should return the one back to your seller. lol

reposition your camera? Probably the angle to the light of your windshield.

i do notice that the camera does get pretty warm... sometimes when I turn off my car, the power light on the blackvue seems to be on, but i think it crashed or something... i unplugged it and light still on.. after a few minutes, it finally powers off...

You can hold the button down too and it will shut off. Can't remember exactly how long but somewhere between 5 and 10 seconds should do it.

^ you'd better format the sd card every 2 weeks or less than 2 weeks to make the memory fresh. It is just like a computer. when the memory is full, the running speed is slow.

GC8 06-30-2012 09:16 PM

I do not run parking mode much now simply because it gets too hot... to prolong the life of it I only use it when im driving... which means I didnt need a powermagic pro haha

asr 06-30-2012 09:56 PM

^ in parking mode, it won't get hot at all because dr400 is not always saving the clips to the sd card. Only record when motion detector find some spots or lighting.

umpadupa 06-30-2012 10:33 PM

hey guys, this may be a stupid question and some1 mite have gone over it already, but i was wondering if this would void a new cars warranty if i were to hard wire it into the car

thanks guys

yingyu_subaru 06-30-2012 10:53 PM

not at all if you hardwire correctly.

Impreza 07-01-2012 09:56 PM

I was just on backvue's website and a few pop up showed up it shows a dr400g-hd but with something in front of the lens, can anyone read it. Just wondering if it is some filter. Thanks

^Those are all invitations/rules for some sort of new launching event for "season II" of blackvue 400dr.

It doesn't mention any of the new features. I think they just changed the design slightly.

*Edit: I looked around the site, and it does say "clearer lens" so they may have upgraded it. Not a filter though.

asr 07-02-2012 12:08 AM

It won't be launched until next year since I got the information from Blackvue. New model DR380 just launching in North America Market.

before i format, do i need to make a copy of the folders or just format and put it back into the blackvue and it will create the folders itself?

Don't worry about the folders. It will automatically create themselves once the card is back in and the unit is powered up.

Impreza 07-02-2012 03:32 PM

^ if you don't copy the config file back I will go back to default setting.

Just wondering if I was to set it to parking mode do I need to have it powered or does it use it's internal battery? If not the does it mean the battery is only used for shutdown?

TOS'd 07-02-2012 03:56 PM

Internal battery is for shuttin the device down properly.
