Took a week off lifting (1.5 weeks since I last squatted) because I had laser eye surgery.

Today was squats/back day and I was hoping to at least match the weights I did last time. Ended up with a PR.
250 lbs 4x5

Can't believe it. To think about a month ago I was having trouble with 225 lbs. I'm pretty sure I could've done 260lbs today if I really wanted to but I decided to stop pushing it too hard on my first day back.

for my own ref:

4x5

deads 330
bench 185 (hasn't moved in a month goddamn)
squats 250

instantneedles 08-06-2013 09:47 PM

^i can totally relate.

but the reality is, if you've been consistently taxing your body with heavy lifting for several weeks, it's gonna need some sort of recovery period (either a deload week or a week where you do nothing) - and more often than not, it's going to work in your favour

Speaking of protein powder, does it matter if it contains soy lecithin? Been hearing stuff about how soy increases estrogen levels and whatnot. Probably not a big deal, but truth? Myth? Doesn't matter?

^ Yolo. But seriously, who gives a fuck, as long as youre meeting your goals for your daily protein intake, youre on the right track.

Yeah that makes sense. I guess an extra week can't hurt considering my current routine has me squatting/deadlifting once every 9 days and I'm making gains so an extra week off wouldn't exactly reverse my progress.

VX3 - Wei-Rui Weightlifting Shoes by Wei-Rui | MAXbarbell LLC

what do you guys think of these? worth it? I think I remember some of you buying wei rui shoes before, how did they hold up? It'd be around 120 with shipping and taxes.

Also, anyone here lactose intolerant and are currently supplementing lactase? Does it help? Want to start drinking milk again :okay:

first day back in the gym after 9 days straight of 8-hour shifts
feels like i suffered a ~10% decrease in strength, but i'll just ease back into it

i make minor gainz, then lose em. then i make em back, and lose em again
at this rate i won't get anywhere :okay:

XplicitLuder 08-08-2013 11:49 PM

when i use to work at autohaus, i'd work from 10-6 than go gym from 7-9 than come home/eat/shower/sleep and repeat. I think the fact that you worked 9 days straight on 8hrs shift shouldnt be an excuse. You know you can do it, its just easier not to do and make an excuse :P just depends how bad you want it. Get on it bro!

truth 08-09-2013 12:05 AM

cue RRxtar's insane landscaping work schedule

BaoTurbo 08-09-2013 12:11 AM

Take some pre workout right after work. You'll get there :)

problem is that i work in a kitchen.. saute/fry area is like 35 degrees and heavy lifting going on already just drains the hell out of me + i'm a lazy bastard
i still try to go whenever i'm feeling good tho

but you're right LOL all i'm doing is making excuses i need to get my shit together

Fcukedd 08-09-2013 02:10 AM

If it's important enough to you, you'll find a way.

Sounds like making progress is not of importance to you..
