how long of regular training did it take you guys to hit your 225 bench for reps? what was your starting bench?

Vancouver240sx 02-17-2015 11:32 PM

I'm sure others might have a more scientific approach but I'd find a strength program and stick to it from beginning to end. (ex: wendlers, 5x5, smolov, smolov jr)

My bench always gets better when my general strength is up too. In December I strained a hip muscle and couldn't squat. Getting back to 3/week squatting in January and PR'd my bench by 10lbs.

Took me about 2 years to hit 225 for 5.

Mind you that I started off as 117lb (now 152-155lb) benching 80lb for under 5 reps

10x3 squats after AMRAP set, :heckno: tendonitis of peace

Nice guys. My injuries are finally gone and now lifting again with gf. Starting bench for me right now is 135 for 3x10. So hoping it can steadily goes up while I'm back at the gym regular.

Definitely gonna work floor press into my chest day now too

try bands attached to the bench and bar bell helps with getting a bigger bench

Starting to slowly claw my lifts back up :fuckyea:

Love it, go every damn day now without fail. No excuses, only gainz

Side note ... when the hell did raw meat get so expensive? Frozen stuff isn't bad if I barbecue it, but I'd much rather be able to chuck it in the oven

320icar 02-19-2015 03:55 PM

^^ price of corn has gone up. Which means virtually all price of meat has gone up with it

SkinnyPupp 02-19-2015 10:50 PM

I wonder if that means grass fed beef will eventually be cheaper? :concentrate:

i've struggled with lower back pain recently myself, but most back pain is caused by the following

- tight hip flexors and psoas (probably #1)
- tight hamstrings
- improper/inadequate bracing of core

and obviously, poor form - but personally my form on most exercises is decent

I do have very tight hips/hamstrings/psoas, but I have been constantly stretching them to achieve full range of motion. Currently still having troubles bending forward from Tuesday's injury. I believe the major cause was bad deadlift form on Friday (going for some PR's) which led to some minor back pain, then while squatting on Tuesday it got worse because I tend to lean forward while reracking my weights. It's been slowly getting less painful each day, but I will be taking the next week or two off work and the gym to fully recover.

What program is everyone on lately?

Berzerker 02-20-2015 10:55 AM

I'm on the lift weights everyday program.

240lbs bodyweight seems to be my kryptonite. Having a hard time getting past that.

Berz out.

squat 2x - once for volume, once for intensity
bench 2-3x a week - same as squat, but add a speed day too
deadlift 1x a week

i highly recommend jamie lewiss book destroy the opposition for programming. probably one of the best books about lifting ive ever read

instantneedles 02-21-2015 10:02 AM

i've been doing my own program past few months

2x a week for bench squat deadlift, 4 sessions a week

BrRsn 02-21-2015 11:46 AM

I go 6 days a week because I became a fat fuark, and I didn't feel 5x5 was giving me the results I wanted

Hit my weak points twice a week, so for example I have an extra chest/lats day, extra legs/arms day

sonick 02-23-2015 04:04 PM

Do you even breast milk?

Young mothers make money by selling their breast milk to bodybuilders on Craigslist

im benching 3x a week,
a heavy day where i hit a top set of between 2-4 then do some backoff work

a volume day where i do 4-5x5-6 reps of just straight weight

then a speed day where i do 6x3 or 6x2 of some lighter weight focusing on speed and technique

im running canditos 6 week program for squat and deadlift (modified)
