So i just signed a 3year term contract with roger,S3,65$ plan last sunday. After reading this thread i def wanna switch over now but im sorta confused as to how to go about it,So can i cancel my current plan and without much damage to my wallet since i think you have 15days before the actual term begins (im not to sure about this) so if i back out now how much am i looking to have to pay? also i downloaded whatsapp but deleted it does that effect cancellations?

and should i cancel rogers first before going to wind or go to wind first (to port number?) then cancel with rogers and can i go to any rogers outlet to do this or does it have to be the one i signed up with.hope this makes some sense as to im sorta noob and have been fucked by rogers for way too long any help on clearing this up for me would be greatly! appreciated

Graeme S 11-27-2012 09:59 PM

If you port, this automatically counts as a cancellation. If you do that, though, you will have to return your phone to rogers and if you've done more than what they allow (I think it's 30 minutes of calls or 50 texts or 50mb of data?) then you aren't actually allowed to cancel/return.

If you can't cancel/return, you'll owe Rogers $400 but be able to keep the phone. Unfortunately, since Wind and Rogers are on differnet frequencies, you won't be able to use the Rogers phone on Wind. But you may be able to sell the phone for $400 or so to at least recoup your costs.

If you cancel your plan with Rogers before you go to Wind, then you'll lose your number (the account will be deactivated and the number will go into the 6-month deep freeze that all cancelled numbers go to).

first thanks for the help! this has been bugging me!.but say i go to wind and port my number first which is = *Cancellation*= that seems like it would violate term agreement? and would make leaving an expensive exit?

Graeme S 11-27-2012 10:31 PM

You'd have to check with Rogers. It may be that you port your number then go to the store to cancel, or cancel your contract and go month to month then go to wind...I don't have the answers, only Rogers would.

Psykopathik 11-28-2012 10:11 AM

FerrariEnzo 11-28-2012 01:24 PM

maybe i will when my N4 arrives..

Graeme S 11-28-2012 01:32 PM

I've been doing speed tests, and so far the best I've done is 3400 down :(

Rumor is Tmobile might be getting the iPhone next week. Not an actual physical phone but a deal for it to carry the iPhone. I wonder if it will be an AWS version.

Tmobile is running LTE on AWS.. not HSDPA AWS.... iPhone 5 does support HSDPA AWS but LTE AWS...
even if there was a hack to get LTE AWS to work on HSDPA AWS.. the speed and reception would be horribly bad, just like with the Samsung Galaxy Note i717

Graeme S 11-29-2012 12:26 PM

Also remember that Tmobile doesn't only use AWS frequencies. IIRC they're 850/1700/2100. That's why Telus has been using some Tmobile phones for themselves (Galaxy S2 hercules/S2X) and why the old Tmobile Galaxy S Vibrant will work on any provider here regardless.

xilley 11-29-2012 06:43 PM

do you guys recommend the switch over from Rogers?

how bad is winds reception?

paying 64 taxed in at rogers right now, the 40 dollar unlimited seems very good..

Graeme S 11-29-2012 06:50 PM

I absolutely recommend switching. I did, and am happier than a pig in the proverbial.

-All underground skytrain stations
-the middle of DT costco
-the west end of the Harbour centre food court
-the west end of the waterfront centre food court

And that's about it.

The very bottom of metro in the hallway heading towards T&T
The very bottom of Harbour centre Downtown (but oddly only on the west side of the food court)
The very bottom corner near timmy's inside waterfront centre
The middle of stanley park as driving/bussing through
The top of the grouse skyride (and above)

Beyond that, I get a very strong, very consistent signal. Oh, except within a 3 block radius of hastings and main where my data slows to a crawl. But that's not a big deal.

Kind of thing. So if it's just for missed calls...not really a big deal. Works for if you've got no reception or if you turn off your phone. Same deal, really.

Porting isn't a hassle. Walk in to the store with your current company's account number. let them do their thing. Walk out with a temporary number and get a text message a couple hours later that says "Congratulations! You're now our customer!"

Also, if you port now they're offering up to a $200 credit. So it said on the window when I walked by today.

Mine's been pretty shitty since Tuesday.

On my Blackberry I get decent reception, however it always has problems connecting to Blackberry services. I'm more inclined to think this is a WIND problem than a BIS issue (since I haven't heard any other complaints with BIS on Rogers or Telus/Bell).

Some people have reported problems, but other than an intermittent outage at the beginning of the year, I have no problems.

Wind has no LTE now, but they've bid on a chunk of the 700Mhz band for the future. Data speeds are typicalish for 3G, but do sometimes suffer indoors. I didn't really notice any change coming from Rogers 3G, so...it's pretty good, I guess?

I see, cause I ordered a note 2 just for the heck of the Fast speed LTE LOL

but now Rogers fucking with me backorder the phone twice already while theres many in stores.

horrible customer service with these fucks..

FerrariEnzo 11-30-2012 03:36 AM

If you want super fast data speeds.. Wind and Mobi wouldnt fit you.

If you want cheaper service with some coverage issues.. Wind could work up for you like it did for me and lots of others.

Wind/Mobi would not be improving their data speeds until next year when the auction starts.. so thats probably another 3-4months

you may have to contact WIND to get them to turn international roaming on; i had to do that during the summer
you could contact @wind cares on twitter and they'll do it for you just DM them with your details
