how bad is winds reception?

paying 64 taxed in at rogers right now, the 40 dollar unlimited seems very good..

Keep in mind however once you switch to Wind/Mobi or anything less than Big3 carrier then you are on your own for the hardware. Say goodbye to hardware subsidy and special.

You get the better plan, $ savings but in the end of your "unofficial" term or whenever you want a new phone you'll be paying it out of your pocket.

i was paying 65 a month to rogers and now with wind it will be 45. i figure the savings would offset the cost of the handset anyway.

20 x 24 months (2 yr term) = $480 saved
20 x 36 months (3 yr term) = $720 saved

with the savings i can go buy my handset at anytime i choose and it will be unlocked and no bloatware. also at 65/mo i would prob fall under the "better than avg" rogers plan. there are some people who are stuck paying 80-100 after taxes to rogers. figure the savings from that, the cost of buying your own phones ain't so bad.

AVS_Racing 12-01-2012 03:39 PM

Yes but you also have to consider mobi and wind coverage is not a good as Rogers also data speeds are much slower. You will have dead spots inside malls buildings and certain areas that they say they have coverage

I'm not sure what I was getting on Rogers, but this works well for me.

FerrariEnzo 12-01-2012 10:49 PM

Few more days until my N4 arrives!!!!

Heroo 12-03-2012 04:28 PM

if i port my number from rogers to wind is it possible to port back if i feel like it?

FerrariEnzo 12-03-2012 04:38 PM

Shouldnt be a problem..
If you go on WindTab... you just pay what you owe... no cxl fee...

Graeme S 12-03-2012 05:28 PM

What he said. You can port anywhere you want whenever you want with no penalties as long as you're not on a contract/tab/what-have-you.

yellowpower 12-03-2012 06:01 PM

Not too sure about Rogers, but some carriers don't allow you to port back your old number. If you don't like the service however, you can let the rep choose the option of 24 hours, which gives you a day to try out the phone. If you dont like it, you can CANCEL port, rather than port back over and having to pay out the entire windtab.

Graeme S 12-03-2012 06:20 PM

Which carriers don't allow it? And why not?

FerrariEnzo 12-04-2012 08:22 AM

i believe some dont allow port back within a certain time period.. best to double check with both instore and CRS... or just google....

Any new promos with Wind?

I wish they had better outright prices to purchase SG3 or Note2 on Wind. The prices are pretty bad!

Heroo 12-12-2012 10:32 PM

anyone know what winds next promo will be?

Spectre_Cdn 12-14-2012 05:28 PM

There's a new promotion for $29/month, valid until Dec. 31:

The plan is $29/month and includes unlimited local calling, unlimited Canada-wide text, unlimited data, and call control features from anywhere on our network.

WIND Mobile | 29 Plan

I'm considering switching from Chatr $25/month + tax for unlimited talk and 50 texts only. Four more dollars for unlimited data and texts... :considered:

SpartanAir 12-15-2012 12:02 PM

I'm considering dumping Rogers (after 10+ years) and going to Wind. I reduced my plan to $60 a month, unlimited calling/texting, only 1 GB of data... Wind just seems like a much better option for half the cost.

I also want out of the Iphone world, I've had them for over 5 years starting with the 2G, have a 4 now. It was great at the time, but now android is clearly the way to go. I want a GS3 or comparable. Don't really care about LTE right now, just a better phone.

Why shouldn't I switch? Any Wind users on here to complain about service or zone issues? I figure the amount of times per year I roam outside the zones will NEVER add up to $30 a month.

Anyone chime in?

sh0n 12-15-2012 12:10 PM

Plans are awesome - Unlimited calling, data, text - whatever (as long as you get the $40 plan)

Reception is decent - certain dead spots and sometimes you won't get your calls but they will be forwarded to voicemail so that's not a biggie.

If you are not a person that depends on your phone 24/7 (business person) then I would say Wind is good to go!

Also be prepared to buy/pay your phone upfront (i.e no more phone subsidies)

Graeme S 12-15-2012 12:52 PM

I had the same worries as you; I was a rogers customer of 7 years, couldn't get a deal (I was at $80, and had two other lines). Now I'm with wind and loving it. There's the occasional gap or dead spot, and LTE won't come for awhile, but I'm paying $30/mo with way more than I had with rogers, and way more than I'll (most likely) ever need. Much better reception than Mobilicity, and the people like me with crazy cheap plans don't have to pay extra for 'premium data' (Mobilicity is capping data speeds because they're realizing the mistake they made). Underground skytrains, middles of big concrete buildings and some basements are dead-or-low-reception areas.

Even if you don't get voicemail, you'll get a missed-call text ("Sosandso number tried to call you at X time, please call me back!"). All in all, totally love it.

FerrariEnzo 12-15-2012 01:07 PM

My Word of Advice for anyone thinking/wanting to switch..

Before porting your number, try out for for 2week-1month BEFORE porting out... if theres any chance you are not happy, at least you still have your own plan and you know how Wind Mobile will suit your needs, otherwise it will be endless complaints.

You get a full refund before 2weeks or less then 30min talk time on the device, whichever is first. or buy a cheap wind phone and use that.

SpartanAir 12-15-2012 02:16 PM

I appreciate the comments. What I was thinking of doing is just buying the $30 plan while it's available and a simcard (because you need at least that for a phone), not switch my number yet, and buy a used or cheap new GS3 on ebay when I get a chance and have it unlocked. But over in the GS3 thread someone said I might not be able to get even 3g speeds with an unlocked phone?

I also have to buy out one final year of my 3-year bullshit with rogers, at $275 to get out. But I figure even then, at a plan that costs half of what I pay now, I will have paid for that buyout in a few months.

Graeme S 12-15-2012 02:28 PM

You need to make sure that whatever phone you buy is AWS, otherwise you won't be able to connect to the home network at all. I'm not sure about the GS3 but it seems odd that you'd not be able to use the network that you're paying for just because you've got an unlocked phone.

FerrariEnzo 12-15-2012 03:08 PM

just get a nice pentaband HSPA phone... then if you dont like wind, you can use it on the robelus...

Graeme S 12-15-2012 03:20 PM

Like the Gnex! Mine works great.

optiblue 12-15-2012 10:12 PM

I've been with wind for 2 months now and I'm still a happy camper! Anyone who missed the back to school special now has a chance to get their holiday $29 sale again LOL

Works for me as I don't need voicemail

dub.g 12-16-2012 12:19 AM

the $40 unlimited wish plan they have now is probably the best deal out there (unless they come out with the same plan priced at $29)

it just eliminates roaming charges completely for call.. you basically have unlimited calls and text in both us and canada..

and unlimited (throttled at 5gb) data canada nationwide

im a happy camper as well.. no qualms or complaints

and anyone notice the reception in south van has gotten better? iv been getting 3 bars instead of 1 or 2 this past month
