Wind put up a tower 2 mins away from work, but I haven't seen any improvement. Are they still in the process of getting it up?

Are you inside or outside?

Graeme S 01-28-2013 09:55 PM

Should be up and running. Are you working in a building that's mostly concrete and or metal?

Wind is using higher bands (1700/2100) which have more trouble penetrating those materials. That's why RoBelLus uses 850--lower frequencies go through dense materials better. This is one of many reason why the 700 frequency is so important for Wind.

I work at a dealership as a lot attendant so I spend a fair amount of time inside and outside

and yes, the build is mostly concrete/metal

Graeme S 01-28-2013 10:07 PM

That'll hurt you then.

satek 01-28-2013 11:13 PM

dang it, I was really excited when I saw the update :(

Graeme S 02-11-2013 11:36 AM

Anyone else get that text about needing to update my SIM if I'm heading outside of Canada? I'll be heading in to a store later this week to change to a microsim (yay N4!) but I'm curious if I can just ask for the update and get a sim for free.

StylinRed 02-11-2013 02:51 PM

i read a roaming sim should be a free swap

but this was at least a year ago

(didn't end up getting one as it turns out the one i had was capable)

vancitylove 02-11-2013 02:59 PM

I got the text too. Let us know if it costs anything.

invader 02-11-2013 07:05 PM

Didn't get any texts from wind regarding that

Spectre_Cdn 02-11-2013 08:05 PM

^same here.

I may need to roam in the US next week, however.

Graeme S 02-11-2013 08:06 PM

"Outside of Canada and the US" is what it said.

Spectre_Cdn 02-11-2013 08:23 PM

Phew!

what's interesting about this is... i went to hardwell over the weekend (the one in edmonton as i'm here visiting family) and the whole time, i had reception to text to meet up with people and what not, but my friends who are on rogers had no reception at all.

Fastest I've ever gotten on a HSPA+ network. Even faster than Rogers.

Psykopathik 02-14-2013 09:02 AM

^^ nice. i broke 10k once too.

Graeme S 02-14-2013 02:27 PM

Went in to Wind today to tell them I got the text message. Told them I had just picked up a phone and asked if I could get a microsim instead.

Boom. Free SIM.

FYI guys, only the coporate store (Robson/Thurlow) has the new sim, so that's the only way you'd be able to do it. And apparently it's for people who signed up before June of last year. So says the WIND FAQ: WIND Mobile | I received a text message from WIND inst...

Quote:

If you joined WIND before June 2012 and if you’re travelling outside of Canada/US after March 31, 2013, you’ll need to visit a WIND store and have your SIM card switched with the new roaming SIM card. Your old SIM card will not work outside Canada/US after March 31, 2013. There will be no charge to swap your SIM.

The new SIM card will ensure your service works while roaming internationally and will also give you continued access to our Preferred European Roaming Rates add-on.

For a detailed list of where to change your SIM card click here and find the nearest WIND store.
I went to the store at Hastings and Slocan, but they said the SIMs haven't rolled out to non-corporate stores (odd, but whatever). So yeah. If you guys are switching...hooray free SIM!

FerrariEnzo 02-14-2013 03:51 PM

I never got the msg... I switched sims since I got my N4.. so i guess im ok?!?!

Graeme S 02-14-2013 03:59 PM

Guess so.

satek 02-14-2013 07:57 PM

Wind has definitely been upping their game.

-edit-
and if you're wondering why I tested twice each time it was 'cause I couldn't believe I was getting results that fast :lawl:

I've gotten 18mbps on my old T999 S3 on Rogers using HSPA+ (T999 doesn't have LTE). Although its usually under 10mbps.

So you can't really say its faster than Rogers.

FerrariEnzo 02-15-2013 11:20 PM

I cant say that I trust any speedtest apps... You gotta be downloading something large to really test out the speed of the network...

theevilslave 03-17-2013 05:04 PM

Well.. It's definitely faster than mobilicity. Just ran a speedtest and was getting around 3-3.5k down. Planning on moving over to wind, but was hoping they would start selling the HTC One or maybe I'll wait for the S4.

FerrariEnzo 03-17-2013 09:14 PM

I like the N4 so far... cheap and fast...
best thing is it works for ALL carriers.. so if I do end up switching to another carrier, I wont have to buy a new phone..
