so is it 4-2.5% = 1.5% rewards?

you can get that with the Rogers Platinum card

twitchyzero 01-14-2018 08:02 PM

I will have a look see, I probably don't want anything to do with Rogers though, and if rewards cb is only redeemable towards a monthly bill or hardware it doesn't help

edit: applying for Home Trust Visa, Rogers/Fido MC only redeems annually if you're not with Rogers, and you will get hit with forex fee when you refund stuff outside Canada

What do you guys thinks of this MBNA rewards card?

https://rewards.mbna.ca/

I had the old one with cashback but they took the cashback out and now charges a $39 annual fee

bobbinka 01-14-2018 11:02 PM

i believe if you have the card from before, it remains $0 annual fee.

only $39 for new card holders

I’m lookin real hard... where does it say 4% foreign transactions??

You earn 2% on all purchase and double (4%) on foreign transaction. You are charged 2.5% forex fee so works out to be 4-2.5 = 1.5 % earn.

I read of RFD that you need to be a member of that CU

i see. But didnt they take out the cashback on that card? I remember receiving a letter about it a couple years ago

bobbinka 01-15-2018 05:39 PM

as far as i'm concerned, nothing's changed.

if you're concerned, call in and ask. if you use the car regularly, just log in and see if the transactions are still giving you cash back.

I need a Visa card with no transaction fee for when I shop south of the border. Costco US only takes Visa. Right now I'm using the Amazon.ca Visa card.

I guess I'll just have to open up a bank account in the US and apply for the Costco US Visa card............. or just be all Asian and carry cash!

BMO US Dollar card. Bills you in USD and you can pay cash at any BMO branch. Has a $65 fee but is refunded when you spend over $1000 within a year.

Saves you big time long term vs using a 0% forex card people are talking about here because you can stockpile USD and lock in your rates and not even care about bank rates.

shenmecar 01-15-2018 06:06 PM

This is very comparable to the Amazon.ca Visa.

http://go.hometrust.ca/preferred-visa-ca

• No annual fee

• 1% CashBack with no limits to your total rewards

• No restrictions on where you earn your rewards

• Roadside Assist membership at no extra charge

• No foreign currency conversion surcharges

Nlkko 01-16-2018 08:11 AM

Not many good rewards VISA cards out there compared to Mastercard's portfolio.

Just got my letter in the mail from Chase saying they're going to end date my Amazon.ca card... assholes... gotta change all my automatic transactions now and figure out which card to get lol... begin re-reading thread in 3...2...1

Iceman_2K 01-25-2018 04:01 PM

Same for my Marriot card - they're ending the card in Canada. No more one free night in a class 5 hotel every year anymore.

friend applied for that card 2 weeks ago, no reply

I remember reading about the hometrust card off r/churningcanada and people were saying that it's a hard card to get

https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/

EvoSpider 01-26-2018 12:52 AM

^ Maybe it's due to the huge influx of new applicants since everyone on RFD is applying for the hometrust card

blkgsr 01-26-2018 06:16 AM

anyone have the westjet card?

Hondaracer 01-26-2018 07:52 AM

If I didn’t feel the need to keep a Visa I’d dump visa completely in favor for the Costco MC

Wife and I have a joint account just got our Costco rebate cheque.. $1260

And THEN you get the MC cash back check later in the year..

No. I applied the day I posted it here. Still haven't gotten a reply.
