You'll love it. Get some good bread and meats, make it an event! Lol
Drink that whole bottle to yourself in one sitting.

Been getting into darker, sweeter malts recently ...

Ebisu Robson recently launched Okanagan Winter Ale on TAP! It's pretty darn good! Been drinking it all week!

Also had some UNIBROUE - LA FIN DU MONDE yesterday, strong & tasty! ...

pherio 12-20-2012 07:57 PM

Dammit they were sold out of Fin Du Monde @ the liquor store. I can't fulfill my pledge tonight.

Unibroue | What's New

Having a Blanche de Chambly right now, same brewer, also a wheat beer and it's midnight SOMEWHERE in the world right now.:fullofwin:

Thought'd I'd share this:
Nice to hear that they sold old and there is some interest. It's easy to forget this thing is 9% abv. Masks the alcohol so well so be careful..

I'm going to point out a few obvious things:

1. Tulip glass (seriously invest in some decent glassware. It will make the experience much more enjoyable in many areas. Taste, appearance, aroma etc..)

2. Room temp or slightly above. Not freezing cold.

3. Watch what he does at the :20s mark

Lastly, you can age most tripels. When I grab a 6 pack, I always leave a few bottles to crack open in a year or two. They taste completely different. The wife hates it. My beer collection is taking over her closet.

Can I get Arrogant Bastard anywhere in Vancouver?

MindBomber 12-30-2012 11:03 PM

Brewery Creek has carried Arrogant Bastard at least once, and there were rumored plans for it to become a permanent fixture but whether they came to fruition I do not know. I'd call, email, facebook Brewery Creek and ask, they're usually a good source for obscure brews. I've had it one time, its a very enjoyable beer; unfortunate its so difficult to find above the 49th. If you do find a source, please update. Good luck.

I have no favourites, I go through phases, depending on mood, weather (season) etc.

Right now I'm really liking this one:

Even better that it's only a 5 minute drive to the brewery to (re)fill one of these for only $10:

Holy shit, anybody tried Driftwood Singularity yet? Shit is INTENSE. Puts hair on your chest. Huge malts and bourbon. Makes Le Terrible taste like Bud Light.

Hopefully the store I found it at still has some tomorrow, going to buy a few to age.

sonick 02-03-2013 09:56 PM

lol I wish I got my hands on that Westvleteren 12. They were going on eBay for upwards of $600 for the 6 pack.

i've been loving the Weihenstephan lately. it's a wheat beer that almost tastes like it has chives in it, semi dark, 5% and yummy!

Anyone try Tusker?
I have a co-worker from Africa and he told me the story behind the brand.. The creator of the beer got killed by an elephant tusk. :okay:
It's on my to-try list.

Is it really similar to the Granville Island stuff?

I like the Winter Ale, but I can only have 1 per sitting. Very sweet stuff.

Currrently hooked on:

Personally, I prefer GIB's offering. I have an enduring fondness for GIB though.

In a way, the level of sweetness and vanilla is a fault; but oddly, it's also an endearing quality. It's clearly doesn't try to be balanced, so I'm okay that it's not and simply enjoy it for what it is: a sort of odd, but well brewed beer. Because it's totally off-balance, it's definitely not suited to have a few over the course of an evening. But it is nice to have one, especially on a chilly night.

But, OK Springs is good too.

It's well brewed, and has a balance of roasted malt, spice, sweetness and is a bit creamy. Yup, it's good; but that's about it, and is that enough? It lacks character, or in other words, one undeniable quality that says, choose this beer over all the other seasonal winter releases brewed in British Columbia. I guess, its mildness could be a pitch. It's very drinkable. That's sorta the profile of OK Springs, mild and drinkable. It makes sense for Obsideon to have it on tap, because it has a mass appeal. I'm not sure I'd ever pick it up for myself.

Obsideon 03-14-2013 10:51 PM

Nice assessement, I personally found GIB Winter Ale to be far more sweet which is not really my thing. Of course taste is subjective for everyone though :)

MindBomber 03-15-2013 03:25 AM

Definitely. I have a few friends who love GIB Winter Ale and a few others who love OK Springs Winter Ale. They're both equally good, just suited to different tastes and contexts. Actually, Parallel 49 CDA would be a better beer to compare to OK Springs Winter Ale. GIB Winter Ale would be more well-compared to a home brewers failed attempt at Winter Ale, which was "ruined" by a misreading of milliliters as liters on the line instructing how much vanilla extract to add. ;)

sonick 03-15-2013 07:17 AM

GIB Winter Ale was what kinda got me into drinking better beer many years ago, but I can't stand it now it's too sweet. Maybe once in a blue moon I'll crave it but don't think I've had one yet all this year.

Commercials on CFOX have me curious to try GIB Ginja Ninja.

Anyone try it?
