My favourite kind of beer is a lot.

Obsideon 08-13-2013 06:41 PM

I dunno if it's the weather or what ... but I've been drinking a lot of:

mmm.. Hoegaarden is the only beer I prefer out of a tap. Tried the bottle once, and it was nasty. Wonder if I got a bad batch.. it had a root beer kinda aftertaste that was just horrible.

Giant Hoegaarden on a patio with some extra lemon. Haven't done that yet this summer, thanks for the reminder, Obsideon!

Guiness is awful out of a bottle or can, too; I'll only drink it draft.

I have been drinking a lot of Hawthorn brewing's premium ale and its very fruity. I can def taste some lychee bits in it.

My local beer store recently had a promotion that offered 32oz Molson Canadian boot mugs. I somewhat shamefully admit, I stood and pondered purchasing 12 Canadians for several minutes merely to have that ridiculous mug. Maturity prevailed, and I left with a several bottles of Fat Tug.

This is still my favourite brew:

Funny, I went to Malones on Canada Day this year and saw that they had boots. Asked the bartender if I had to order Canadian, he said nope, just two beers. Okay, two Fat Tugs it is. I admit, 32 oz of Fat Tug is a ridiculous amount to drink and I was feeling it at the end.

So I'm sitting at the bar with my girlfriend and her friend, when some girls come by and ask for a boot, even though they didn't order a beer. Bartender looked at her and was like aww, okay sure if you just order 1 beer. I was pissed when I heard this, so I had my girlfriend ask if she could get a boot as well for my 2nd Fat Tug. Score!

Also, I bought the same Innis & Gunn pack, not my favourite beers but I bought it because it was on sale and included the glass!

How did I forget Guinness  - I prefer Guinness on tap as well.. mind you, I actually don't mind it out of the can.

Had a few Smithwicks at Jimmy Flynn's on the strip in White Rock this weekend as well listening to some live tunes.. good times!

There's a liquor store on Hastings in Burnaby that has a pretty solid assortment of German imported beer. I completely forget the name, but it's on the left hand side as you drive East.

I picked up a whole bunch of my favorites, as well as some new brews I've never tried and I was very impressed with Edelweiss Snowfresh (Austria):

I enjoyed Edelweiss too!

It is Driftwood Sartori frenzy across the city yesterday and today. Hope score a few on my way home from work in a few minutes.

Edit: Success! Picked up three... Very nice beer, fruity and fragrant... almost belgian-ish. Fresh hops vs dry is almost analogous to cooking with fresh vs dry herbs; the hop flavour is much brighter and light tasting but still powerful.

Why this beer type is so special:

I went to BCLC Langley on the weekend. There's a few glassware freebies happening:

Peroni Glass with purchase of Peroni 6 pack
Sam Adams Pint Glass with purchase of 12 pack of Sam Adams

and

the giant 1L stein with purchase of Sleemans 12 pack.

Value on Liquor on Granville just off the Arthur Lang bridge onramp. Dunno if they'll have any left, though.

If you want to try it, The Pumphouse in Richmond will be pouring it on Friday for a Brewmaster's Longtable Dinner.

Bravo. I, too, bought three bombers. Great beer, albeit overhyped in a way. The rarity of fresh hops causes the hype, more so than the actual taste (IMO).

The other fresh hopped beer, Hoyne Wolf Vine, may still be available. Wolf Vine is a pale ale, while Sartori is an IPA, so the beer nerds pounce a little less quickly. Just in case anyone missed out on Sartori, but is interested in something similar..

On the subject of fresh ingredients in beer; Cannery's Knucklehead pumpkin ale is one of very few BC beers with fresh pumpkin, as opposed to canned pumpkin. In my eyes, that makes it the pumpkin ale to try.

sonick 10-04-2013 11:50 PM

agreed. while it does taste unique, I don't feel Sartori really lives up to the hype. In terms of value or taste to price ratio, Fat Tug, which is much cheaper and readily available, still reigns supreme in Driftwood's line up.

Blue moon is pretty much like Rickards White. I think might even be the same thing? Also served with a slice of orange at some places.
