Yup, same beer, same recipe, just brewed in Canada instead of the US.

Why this beer type is so special:

picked up a few of these last night, absolutely love it

GLOW 10-07-2013 07:27 AM

i believe you are correct, i've been told it's the same just sold in the US. which is weird b/c when i bought the rickards variety pack i only liked red. after i found that out i gave white a try and it aint bad :o

BlackV62K2 10-08-2013 04:35 PM

Sartori still available? Where?

MindBomber 10-10-2013 04:01 PM

Central City may have stock? Driftwood delivers Santori on standard delivery dates, not a special drop. Therefore, Central City was one of several stockists to accept an order post-initial release date mania.

GIB Mad Dash Fresh Hop ESB, again, an alternative wet/fresh hop beer is on shelves now. And the wet/fresh hopping is the defining quality of Santori, so it's something to check out.

MindBomber 10-13-2013 09:33 PM

I bought a six of Phillips Elsinore, a throwback to Strange Brew (80's Canadian film).

Elsinore is pretty much a Pilsner. I enjoyed the simplicity. I would give it 3.4/5. It's worth trying.

Covered a shift for someone at work at they repaid me by picking me up a 6 pack while down in the states :fullofwin: Thanks though!

I bought a six of Steam Whistle Pilsner today solely because the bottle opener's not bad.

I had low expectations of Steam Whistle and was not pleasantly surprised, it's overall quite bland. I'm trying to not be harsh, but 2.8/5. Elsinore is a wayyyyy better pilsner.

I almost got sucked in with the bottle opener too but decided against it.

We just got 2 bottles from Deadfrog in Richmond

rocksforsale 10-27-2013 12:37 PM

Picked up a case of chainbreaker white ipa by deschutes down in the states just to try it out. Not a big fan of citrusy stuff so if anyone wants it inbox me

Hondaracer 10-27-2013 12:53 PM

Don't get why red racer is always so highly regarded, it's far from great IMO

MindBomber 10-27-2013 02:14 PM

I agree, I'm not a big red racer fan.

I assume it's so well-liked because it's a gateway craft beer, so people develop a fondness of it early on in their good beer drinking days.

kcl38 10-27-2013 02:58 PM

One day my Dad found a Red Racer, which I think someone left with me at a BBQ over the summer, cracked it open, and immediately poured it out. :lawl:

sonick 11-06-2013 08:23 AM

So, CRAFT Beer Market opens tomorrow...

Speaking of Central City, pretty excited to hear their Imperial IPA is now going to be a regular item. Amazing beer.

I personally disagree with the above sentiments in regards to Red Racer. It is a solid IPA but far from a 'gateway' IPA (see above posts' Dad); admittedly a bit dated in taste profile compared to all the other varieties of IPA that have come out since then locally. If anything, Fat Tug is a far more accessible gateway IPA than Red Racer.

Speaking of gateway "craft" beers, I am officially over Lions' Winter Ale.

Hondaracer 11-06-2013 09:07 AM

I prefer the vertical winter ale by tree brewing to the GIB

MindBomber 11-06-2013 05:07 PM

I'll have to refresh my memory of Red Racer and report back...

Lions' is indisputably a gateway "craft" beer... I'm over it.

I may try the Vertical by Tree Brewing.

I tend to drink Hermannator quite a lot through the Winter season, it's too damn good. It's also back on the shelves..

sonick 11-06-2013 05:35 PM

+100 on Hermannator. Picked up my first pack (but most certainly not the last ) of the season last weekend. Amazing.

Everymans 11-10-2013 08:49 PM

picked up a bottle of salty scot by 49th parellel. Such a bizarre combination of flavors. But in the end I was very satisfied with it. Definitely a sipping beer, 7.5%. One of the best smelling beers I've ever had, must be the scotchyness.

Presto 11-12-2013 09:00 AM

^^^
It reminds me of the Granville Is. Winter Ale, but with more kick.

sonick 11-12-2013 09:04 AM

My girlfriend liked Salty Scot too, the caramel and toffee sweetness really helps.

Plus being at 7.5% is a bonus :ifyouknow:

kevin7352 11-14-2013 10:52 PM

Not sure if I'm allowed to be doing this but I got a 1L bottle of Fat Tug if anyone wants it for cheap. I tried it at the bar the other day and did not like it at all

MindBomber 11-14-2013 11:05 PM

I'd suggest saving the bottle and giving Fat Tug a second shot.

Fat Tug truly is a world class IPA, and once you like it, you love it, but it takes a little bit to adjust to that level of bitterness. It's a mildly acquired taste that's well worth acquiring.
