Well, even though the Canucks will likely miss the playoffs, at least I'll still be able to celebrate Leafs Elimination Day again this year. Stupid lockout last year :(

I'm aware ... thus why I mentioned last year ... as they only made it because of the lockout ...

And they haven't even made the Stanley Cup Finals since there were more than 6 teams in the league ... and they had exclusive rights to every player who grew up within 50 miles of Toronto ... and they only had to win 7 games to win the Cup (a 5-game first round series and a 7-game final) ...

Chicago, Boston, and New York never stood much of a chance as Toronto, Montreal, and Detroit had first crack at 90% of the top players entering the league.

BTW, Vancouver and Victoria have Stanley Cups that are just as relevant if you want to use that logic.

m3thods 03-25-2014 12:26 PM

The rule should be you can only bring up Cups if you were alive and able to recall the actual win, and not via second-hand cheering while you were 2 years old. At least that's my take.

As much as we like to rag on the Leafs, you can't deny their recent exciting play over the past few years. They really do go big or go home (as evidenced by their epic EPIC loss to Boston in the first round). I wish I could say the same about the Canucks in recent history (post-2011).

I rather have a blow out loss than losing in that fashion. 4-1 lead with 14 mins left to play is a heart breaking loss.

Leafs lose again, looks like the wagon just got lighter all of a sudden

Accordin to John Tortorella, Alex Burrows and Henrik Sedin are day-to-day and will not make road trip. #Canucks

Ben Kuzma ‏@benkuzma 6h
Further to earlier Burrows comment, Torts now confirms winger IS going on trip. Didn't practice, but will be evaluated in Minny. #Canucks
All thumbs today. Make those #Canucks lines: 22-27-46/20-17-36/7-15-9/29-45-21. Burrows (thumb) on trip.
Bumped into Burrows at arena. Has new split(splint) on thumb, going on trip, will be evaluated. #canucks

Really, what's the point? If for some reason we get in to the playoffs, do we actually stand a chance at winning the cup? NO. Just rest the goddamn injured players for a better try next year. It's obviously influenced by economics that they want to ice a "competitive" team...ugh absolutely pathetic.

Mike Oxbig 03-25-2014 07:52 PM

Lol the Oilers core players needs to start being accountable for their plays. RNH is so fucking weak on the puck with so many turn overs.

Im hoping the Oilers doesn't get Ekblad so they are force to trade one of their 1st overall picks for some defense

How is that RNH's fault, though? The guy has had THREE fucking shoulder surgeries in less than 3 years since joining the NHL.

He wasn't NHL ready when he was drafted, but they threw him to the wolves, anyways. Now he hasn't had an opportunity to develop physically due to offseason surgery or rehab every summer.

That's 100% on management for being a bunch of fucking tards.

Reimer is gonna have a bounty on his head if the Leafs don't make the playoffs.

Poor guy... his wife was getting blasted on twitter

Dreger reported said he was gonna respectfully ask for a trade this summer

BTW, thoughts on Faulk's extension? Bit overpaid for me but a nice young guy with potential (but i guess the cap is going up)
Probably sets the precedent for Tanev maybe ~1m less

I agree, except no matter how many times I look at that image, unless there's some sort of illusion going on, that stick blade doesn't look like it reaches far enough to hit the nuts.

in the OHL playoffs Windsor Spitfires vs London Knights :lawl:

What goalie would want to play for Toronto :heckno: terrible defence they give up so many shots a game, some goalies need and thrive under more workload but the Leafs are another level. If you play bad your family gets heckled and coach throws you under the bus

Chicago Blackhawks sign Trevor van Riemsdyk to two-year contract - NHL.com - News

The Chicago Blackhawks announced Monday that they have agreed to terms with free-agent defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk on a two-year contract, which begins at the start of next season.

Van Riemsdyk, 22, had 23 points (four goals, 19 assists) in 26 games this season at the University of New Hampshire. He ranked fifth on the team in points and sixth in assists.

The younger brother of Toronto Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk, the Middletown, N.J., native had 75 points (16 goals, 59 assists) in 102 games over three seasons with the Wildcats from 2011-14. He was named a NCAA First-Team All-American and Hockey East First-Team All-Star last season and to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 2011-12.

Tanev's best comparable, at least IMO, is Niklas Hjalmarsson, who got a $4.1M x 5 contract which starts next season. He was UFA, though, so Tanev will probably get a bit less ($3.5-$4.0M range).

Goalie leaves net, gets changed, drives away while trailing 8-1 in second period of OHL playoff game

Quote:

WINDSOR, Ont. - The Windsor Spitfires were left with just one goaltender Tuesday after having their starter walk out on them midway through Game 3 of their Ontario Hockey League playoff matchup with the London Knights.

Dalen Kuchmey pulled himself from Windsor's net, went to the dressing room, changed and drove away from the arena after giving up eight goals on 26 shots, leaving the Spitfires trailing 8-1 with 5:34 remaining in the second period.

London went on to win the game 10-2.

"You're going to have to ask him," Spitfires head coach Bob Boughner said when asked about Kuchmey's whereabouts during the third period. "He left the ice and the rink before the (second) period was over. He quit on our team and he quit on his teammates."

Kuchmey was making his first start of the series, filling in for regular starter Alex Fotinos who came down sick after starting Game 1 and 2.

London jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes of play and Boughner spoke to Fotinos about replacing Kuchmey to start the second, but decided to stick with the healthier 19-year-old despite the score.

"I asked our backup goalie (Fotinos) who had been sick all day at the end of the first period if he could go in if we had to pull Kuch at some point," Boughner said. "He said, 'if you need me, great, but I don't feel good at all'.

Added Boughner: "Our backup was sick. It is what it is and I really don't have anything more to say as I haven't talked to (Kuchmey). But once you quit on our team .... I'd rather concentrate on the guys who want to be here."

Ryan Rupert and Bo Horvat each had a goal and three assists for the Knights, who have a commanding 3-0 series lead. Zach Bell, Chandler Yakimowicz, Michael McCarron, Matt Rupert, Nikita Zadorov, Chris Tierney, Josh Anderson and Mitchell Marner added the others.

London's Anthony Stolarz made 24 saves for the win. Stolarz received a two-minute minor for high sticking at the 15:56 mark of the first period after hitting Josh Ho-Sang in the back of the head with his stick.

Ho-Sang and Ben Johnson scored for the Spitfires as Fotinos wound up stopping 11-of-13 shots in 25 minutes of relief.

Boughner added that goaltender Brendan Johnston could be called up from Chatham Jr. B in time for Game 4 on Thursday
