Look at it as each lost can potentially get you a better prospect.

Aside from the top 4, all the prospects from 5-15 are essentially equal.

OMG, instead of Virtanen, we may get stuck with Ritchie or Tuch ... Oh no!

Mike Oxbig 03-24-2014 06:23 PM

watch Nikolaj Ehlers play

since we arent gonna get any of the top 5 picks

Nikolaj Ehlers, who is projected to be a mid-to-late 1st round pick?

Tank to go off the board :fulloffuck:

Mike Oxbig 03-24-2014 06:27 PM

QMJHL Network

I've seen him play. I watch the Sportsnet junior games frequently. I've also seen a lot of the other prospects play.

Scouts have also, I'm guessing, watched him play. Thus, I assume they know what they're talking about when they project him to be a mid-to-late 1st round pick.

If you want Ehlers, he'll still be there regardless of where we finish if we miss the playoffs. Worst we can pick is 13th (as NJD picks 30th).

RiceIntegraRS 03-24-2014 06:48 PM

Is there a point to debate who we should or shouldnt draft? Its gonna take like 5+ years to figure out who would be right

Why? The article reports he appears to wants to stay with the Hurricanes organization as president. It's similar to Pratt thinking MG would step aside from GM duties and hire Naslund as GM, even though the president would still oversee all decisions.

Give it a rest already, we get your point

Try telling 25 top level competitive guys to not go out there and try to win games. Good luck. Even when a team is down 7-1 with 3 minutes left in the game, most guys are going out and playing hard shifts. Top athletes are wired to give it everything, even when the chips are down.

You don't understand that because you don't have that compete level that a pro athlete has.

fliptuner 03-24-2014 07:18 PM

To add, no one's going to tank if they have to keep their value up.

Mike Oxbig 03-24-2014 07:43 PM

Can we atleast slot schroeder in the first line since hes gonna be a RFA, we need to boost up his value

dbaz 03-24-2014 07:47 PM

smith injured, phx fucked. cue the playoff push :lawl:

No thanks. Don`t need no Lowe and MacTavish type situation here.

Hondaracer 03-24-2014 08:17 PM

Players don't tank, -ever- especially in the NHL

Teams tank via managements decisions on who to play, I highly doubt you'll ever find a pro athlete who tanks on purpose even if the motivation was purely monetary

Pro teams/players have admitted to throwing playoff games for money in Europe. Wouldn't shock me at all if they were paid to throw regular season games.

North America is another story, however.

Mike Danton wrote a piece about it in his blog about playing in Kazakhstan.
Quote:

When the players, past and present, found out I was writing a blog about my time in Kazakhstan, I was bombarded with facebook messages and emails insisting that I add their stories to my blog. I could not do that, as I had no proof of what they were saying. I do not want to start rumours; I want to state facts. However, one story involving my previous team was very interesting. After confirming the story with multiple sources from both teams involved, I am deciding to add it to my blog. A couple of years ago, Beibarys was playing Arystan in the playoffs. The Arystan players were supposed to receive a bonus for reaching the playoffs, however, travelling to Beibarys by plane was very expensive for the team. Therefore, the Arystan and Beibarys coaches got together (as they are friends) and came to an agreement. Arystan already had to travel to Beibarys for the first two games of the series. So, Arystan told their players to purposely lose all four games so they would not have to travel back to Atyrau by plane again. If Arystan did not comply, they would not receive their playoff bonus as it would go to support the cost of the teams travel back to Atyrau. Instead, if Arystan lost all four games, they would receive their playoff bonus from their team as well as receive $1000 from Atyrau. Therefore, Beibarys paid off Arystan players and coaches $1000 each to purposely lose playoff games. That story was confirmed by players from both Beibarys and Arystan.

Not really racist! 03-24-2014 09:07 PM

Lucic went looking for Emelin near the end of the 3rd, jabbing him in the nuts with his stick

war of attrition when playing the bruins

it is all game theory when it comes to playing dirty.
everyone does it to some degree because they are at a disadvantage if they do not.

but at what point does everyone stop and mutually agree that enough is enough. for a start: this is where the league and officials need to solidify there stance

spoon.ek9 03-24-2014 09:42 PM

Milan Lucic Calls Alexei Emelin ?Chicken? For Low Hit | Boston Bruins | NESN.com

he denies spearing him despite the video evidence..

Jmac 03-24-2014 09:56 PM

Emelin hit looked fine to me. Definitely wasn't a Kasparaitis special

m3thods 03-24-2014 10:12 PM

Textbook hip check imo. Beautiful to watch. Nothing against Luc, but he's an idiot for saying all that with the video evidence backing up Emelin.

There's a difference between caring and meddling with hockey decisions that he has no business making.

I wish Gagliardi had bought the team. What we know now, I believe that Aqualini did go behind his back and purchase the Canucks from the other 2.

Late in 2003, Gaglardi, Beedie and Aquilini came together to launch a joint ownership bid for the Canucks, who were then owned by Seattle-based John McCaw. Aquilini subsequently left the group and in November 2004 bought the Canucks and Rogers Arena, then called General Motors Place.

highfive 03-24-2014 10:40 PM

Not defending aquilini but what exactly has Gaglardi and the Dallas stars has accomplished or made the team stronger in the past years?

Sometimes I feel Canucks fans has been spoiled for too many years.
