E99s+ "67" version |
So as per the other thread, the X5 is most likely a write off and I'm starting to look for a new car. I've narrowed it down to: BMW X5 PHEV 45e/50e - just get another one BMW iX 50/60 - Kids are older now, but I give up the split tail gate Polestar 3 - It's $1000/m and only for a year In a very distant 4th and 5th and 6th Lucid Gravity Touring - I'm really not sure about beta testing for Lucid for a car that I need to just work VW ID Buzz - 26k off nuff said - but the depreciation on this thing is going to be absolutely mental. Rivan R1T - it's 145k for base + options and it really doesn't fit in my garage all that well. But what am I overlooking? |
I'd recommend against the Polestar 3 because even from just casually following it in a few social media groups, it seems like the vehicle isn't quite fully baked yet. It drives well when it works, but it also seems like enough owners have come across situations where the vehicle would just drop the ball one way or another. Sometimes it's just the smaller glitches. Other times it may much bigger stuff like not charging, door won't open, etc. |

Heard the 50e is having battery pack issues and so is the EV9. From what you’ve told me about road trip requirements, I suggest against EV9 because the trip planner and pre-conditioning is so bad that it’s unusable. R1T suspension and steering are so alert that it’s annoying to drive for more than 20 minutes. My preference if I were in your shoes would be iX > 45e > ID Buzz |
Lucid air. 960 bucks a month. Good for 3 years lease and then return it and get something else. For the same price: f150 lightening. Now when she smashes shit, the other person will be written off Bahahaha. Get it and rent to people who need a truck for a day. Turo can recoup cost quite quickly. After all those warranty issues you still want another x5 ?!?? You’re nuts. Get a RZ then. Aren’t they giving these pieces of shits away ? |

Yea didn't you say your x5 had a lot of problems, rx500h :accepted: or the 7 other SUVs Lexus has or new Pathfinder, Infinity, q80 |
Evofire loves going to the dealership for free coffee |
Besides the transfer case, I agree with Evofire's assessment that the issues with his outgoing 45e were specific to the unit. I would chance another 45e with a good CarFax history, though none that I've come across come as loaded as his old one. A Cayenne PHEV will only be more expensive to maintain, and the Lexus RX / TX PHEVs belong in a different category altogether. |

The Air is a sedan, however, and that is far less convenient for a family with young kids vs. a SUV especially one with a split tailgate. |

All the driving dynamics and tech didn’t save her ass from this accident so in the end it’s all moot. Get the most reliable and safe one. |
I think evofire the type to change cars every 4 years so reliability is not a concern. Maybe I'm old fashioned with modern safety tech but I still think german cars are safer to be worth the occasional unreliability. My recommendations not knowing his budget. Since you already experienced PHEV it's time to go full EV! 1. I love my iX, well built with great range. Used ones have depreciated nicely. The facelift one has better front seats and illuminated pig nose for the haters. 2. Model Y. Regardless of political beliefs, I think they are the best for under $70K. 3. VW Bangbus, since it's discounted $25K who cares for depreciation. Any other EV or luxury car will depreciates as much. 4. EQS450 SUV. Depreciated nicely as well but more problems than BMW. 2024+ have the heat pump. 5. Wait out for the ix3? 6. Hyundai/KIA EV9/Ioniq9 seems nice but I dunno if they fixed the ICCU yet. 7. Volvo XC90 plug in? I dont recommend lucid as it's a sedan and still a startup EV. Plus ICBC deemed it a luxury car so you'll pay double insurance. Same goes for the Model X. |
his choices are very much catered towards his wife. i cant blame him for that, it would be the same with my wife. As much as i wanna put her in a murano crosscab, i doubt that'll ever happen. if shes okay with pig nose iX get her that. full EV would probably be less headache than your PHEV. |

I'm also going by the experience of a friend's dad who went from the same X5 to a RX and regretted that decision - said the X5 was a much better car in terms of power, build quality, and creature comforts. His RX's dash also split and separated at the top seam area and didn't like how rough the engine was. Even if his wife doesn't care about any of this, I imagine Evo still wants something at least interesting to drive during family duty. |
G63? |
Wife likes Lexus, but liking vs living with are two separate things altogether. She'd get car sick just driving the Lexus and the reviewers are right, the Lexus system is miles behind iDrive, even with BMW's newest shit iteration on Android. I would like the family car to not be a snooze fest yes, but wife is surprisingly in tune and picky with driving feel. We've shopped SUVs and sedans many times, she has a pretty good sense of what is a good driving car and what isn't. Back in the day we shopped sedans, 328, A4, C350, IS350. The C350 was struck out after 1 block of driving by her because in her words "The steering wheel feels bad" ie, lacking in feel. Same deal when we drove the GLC350. 2 blocks in and she's like nope. It boiled down to X3, Q5 and Rav4. The Rav4 had better feel than the GLC. I just came back from BJBMW. New iX 60 with options is $2000/m zero down at MSRP New X5 50e is $2100/m zero down at MSRP. There's wiggle room on the iX as it's not affected by tariffs, zero wiggle room on the X5. He said realistically with what he can do the iX would be 1800/m on a fairly well optioned inventory. So herein lies the problem, I can see us driving a X5 for quite some time, an iX I'd likely return after lease end. The promotion literature had the iX at 0.49% lease, but the problem is the residual is not as good so you end up paying a bigger portion of the price on lease. I'm not exactly thrilled with the thought of throwing 70k on a lease and then walking away with nothing. The X5 is getting a $2600 price hike on Jan 1st, iX is unaffected as it's made in Germany. BJ Used has a 2023 X5 45e asking for 82k. Fairly well optioned minus Bowers and Driving Assistance Pro. Not break it deals but they want a lot for the car. I'm going to Polestar tmr and taking a look at the PS3 and see how the actual lease term shakes out. At 1000-1100/m I might just give them a chance. Anecdotes seem to be saying that a lot of the issues have been ironed out since the first PS2s in 2022. I don't actually know how the money works for them as the car is made in South Carolina and is subject to tariffs right now? Also probably go to Lucid to kick tires again after. They said the Gravity Touring is 5-8 weeks out which shakes up to roughly when we will get the settlement from ICBC I think. Either ways we have until April as we stole the inlaw's X1 for the time being. They aren't back from vacation until then. As for the other suggestions. iX3 is too small. Ditto the GLC GLE is off the menu because wife doesn't like how Mercedes drive. Cayenne PHEV - I shopped this against the X5 when we were looking for ours. The Cayenne is a little bit nicer in almost every way, except when you need it to do kids stuff. The trunk with tail gate is one of those things where you don't know what you are missing until you've tried it. It's also not 30% better than the X5 considering they cost 30-40% more. I listed the VW bangbus because of how cheap it potentially could be. I brought it up 3 times already with the wife and she said no. EV9.... Do I really trust Hyundai/Kia? I don't like how Teslas drive. I've driven TM3 dual and TMY Performance. The seats also don't fit my butt, makes my legs numb whenever I sit in them for over 20mins. I think best best best case scenario is a used 2023/24 X5 PHEV or iX50 popping up with the right options and the right price for us. We can literally jump in with minimal outlay after payout. |

I LOVE the lucid air but the owner reports for the gravity looks SO rough. Lucid Gravity key fob ain't even working reliably.... |
How the fuck can she get car sick driving the Lexus RX ? No car in this modern day and age drives that poorly or that floaty. Utter bullshit. Go let her try it and don’t start shoving dumb ass ideas in her head. Is she doing autocross at t&t ? I don’t understand how this crock of shit argument on dynamics has any relevance for the non enthusiast public. These people don’t give a fuck about chassis tuning. They don’t even know what are the drive wheels. You sound like you wanna keep the car for long term. If that’s the case then why would you suffer some German or EV. Both brands are lease only vehicles. You lease. Return and lease again. It’s basically like a cellphone plan. |

Friend's RX was the current gen - two pieces of the dash separated similar to below. Think the whole dash ended up getting replaced. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...d91c6130c.jpeg |
