Oh, maybe Mexico and Central Amurica players..........

just kidding.

If they truly want people to take this tournament seriously they need to do away with the gimmicks... I agree, team EU i can understand.. but why does NA need a 3rd team? The reason people love Olympic hockey is because it isn't biased towards NA.

Team North America are the young guns. Team composed of players under 23.

Will definitely be cheering for them along with Canada :fuckyea:

I'm praying that, if it work out in the brackets and results, Team NA plays Team Canada in the final.

Gimmick or not, Team NA is likely the most exciting team to watch. Yesterday they made Team EU (granted not the strongest team) look like pylons.

If he has free-reign, it might be different. At least I'm hoping it is. I don't want to watch another train wreck like last year.

I never heard him say that, but if it was true then I am more disappointed with management then I already am.
I've said it before. If they had no intentions of playing Vrbata with the twins last season, then they should have made all efforts to move him a lot earlier in the season.
Same thing for Hamhuis.

But then again, some of Willis' coaching decisions during the games made no sense either so maybe they were forced to hold Willis' hand. It's funny because season 1 he seemed fine but season 2 things definitely went south fast.

6o4__boi 09-09-2016 07:58 AM

i haven't really been keeping up to date with off season but i don't recall Willie saying something like that...usually that would get you fired lol

tbh tho, Management intervention or not, Willie doesn't strike me as a good NHL coach. Maybe as an assistant. But you'd have to be crazy to think he didn't lose the room at some point last year. There were games early in 2016 when you could clearly tell the team just wanted it over with. Every NHL team has management that may occasionally breathe down your neck (ours moreso because of shitty ownership) but at the end of the day, it's the coach's job to say "fuck you and what you have to say, i'm icing the best we've got, and we're gonna do things that'll win us games."

Management intervention or not, any coach who plays a shitty player like Bartkowski the games and minutes he received last year should be in jail. That asshole had no business in the NHL and would have a hard time being an AHL 6th dman.

There was also the absolute refusal to change tactics on the fly and the overall sense that Willie was always afraid to make any radical changes or take risks. He just doesn't strike me as that coach. He might be good on a team that's already stacked or is trending that way but on a team that's rebuilding and trying to find an identity? He's too safe and unwilling to gamble.

UFO 09-09-2016 08:59 AM

But really that's been the calling card of this lindening era so far, whether it be player and personnel decisions or the on ice product. Less risk, work with known quantities instead of tapping into potential, 'old time' hockey management.

And that likely translated into WD's hiring as well.

Good luck having this group to do a full 180 and be more risk taking and spontaneous

6o4__boi 09-09-2016 09:17 AM

true that...it sucks

i fully expect to be watching another train wreck of a season.
this team just can't seem to catch any lucky breaks...i swear, we'll suck enough to be the worst team and still have the lottery fuck us sideways or end up drafting a 1st overall bust lol

JesseBlue 09-09-2016 08:21 PM

Too many arm chair gms and coaches here. Let us see your resumes first so we can see of your fit to coach or gm the team

Well, to be honest, Team NA is what makes me more interested in this tournament more than anything.
While it seems silly, there is an abundant amount of talent within North America. I personally don't mind seeing a 3rd team joining in, especially with the contingents in place.

As long as the players take it seriously, it will be fun to watch.
I watched the game today... Only an exhibition but still saw hard hits, Kesler got ejected after boarding Weber :lol
It was entertaining.

2g for loui, assits to the twins

nice

Tegra_Devil 09-10-2016 05:00 PM

So good for an exhibition game. Loving every second

AzNightmare 09-10-2016 10:25 PM

The Canada - USA exhibition games are so good.

I actually worry they might not be as entertaining later on. Cause when the stakes are higher later in the actual tournament, everyone going to play a lot more tighter and boring hockey.

murd0c 09-10-2016 11:35 PM

when does the tournament actually start?

just kidding.

There is no point to this. Its basically an all star game with flags on the jersey as a poorman replacement for the Olympic because betman and the owners dont feel like they got their moneys worth for having their NHL players playing in the olympic.

Lets see how many players get injured from this cash grab.

Why hello there.
You must be new to hockey.

:awwyeah:

srsly tho, the beauty of talking sports is that there is one reality, and so many possibilities and "what ifs". We can all toss out ideas on how we would do it, and never be tested because none of us will ever be on an NHL bench.

However, if you want to see my coaching resume, I would be happy to provide it :lol

Team NA is comprised of more yanks than canucks.
If I remember correctly, there are 13 Americans and only 10 Canadian players on the squad.

I may be off by one, but the numbers I quoted are very close to the roster numbers.

FailFish

Jmac 09-11-2016 03:57 PM

11 Canadians, 12 Americans

AzNightmare 09-11-2016 04:21 PM

Anyone with Telus know which channel these games are on?

I just recently renewed my Telus Optik TV and can't find the game in the 900s.
Not sure if these guys forgot to give me the sports package or something. Seems like most of my Sportsnet and TSN channels are missing. wtf.

edit: nvm. solved.
