Crosby ... you can always dream. But if he ever came to that point of wanting to have another run at a cup as a rental (and possibly a few more years with that team after this year), might he not choose Colorado for the Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia connection? And whatever you think of Colorado, the team pedigree and culture there is strong.

Bringing the cup back to Canada after over three decades is a more important feat to cement his status in the top five.

whitev70r 01-25-2024 08:00 PM

^ yes but imagine Crosby and McKinnon bringing it back to NS. The Canadian Team (Mtl, Ott, Tor, WPG, VAN, EDM, CAL) vs. Canadians on the SC team debate.

Imagine the cool commercials that Crosby and McKinnon can make if they were both on the Avs.

Edmonton getting closer and closer to the NHL record ... 15 straight W's tonight. Record is 17. Next few teams are: Nashville (16), at Vegas (17), at Anaheim (18). I think Vegas will be the tough one.

Razor Ramon HG 01-27-2024 03:30 PM

Oilers 16 in a row, damn.

SkinnyPupp 01-27-2024 03:36 PM

The Hockey God can't be denied for long!

EvoFire 01-27-2024 03:45 PM

We played most of our games against the oilers early on already. Would hate to face them right now

spoon.ek9 01-27-2024 03:49 PM

for what it's worth, a lot of the teams the oilers have beaten recently are bottom feeders. they are of course still deserving of full credit for the wins streak as it isn't exactly common nowadays.

Would be interesting, I’d love to see how they stack up

Their PP is always scary when it’s rolling though, only thing we could hope for is getting to the net

Vegas is up next so that might be the biggest threat for the win streak to end.

We'll see. Makes a helluva story though ... worst team in the NHL at one point, then ties or gets the record for consecutive win streak.

Since I haven't been following the actual games, I went and checked the Oiler's current streak to see what type of teams they've been playing.

Took standings from current list on NHL.com

10/16 against bottom half league teams. 6 of the 11 against the bottom 5.

6/16 against top half of teams, 5 of those 6 against wild card teams, 0 games against the top 5.

Still impressive tho.

SkinnyPupp 01-27-2024 06:13 PM

Strength of schedule is definitely important in evaluating a team and setting expectations. But also part of what makes a bottom half team a bottom half team is running into teams like the Coilers on a run. 16 in a row is still insane

Nobody wants to play them, not even a top 5 team. But that's the real test of where they are, when they start playing those teams. Maybe they crumble, maybe they keep going? We shall see

In the NFL the Dolphins looked unstoppable, but if you look at the opponents, it was always against shitter teams. Then they end up playing other good teams, and literally lose all but one of them (against another similarly fugazi team, the Cowboys). They got a lot of accolades padding stats against shitters, while others were grinding through a tough schedule, and they're all still in the playoffs while the Dolphins went one and done.

Will be interesting!

We should just decline our powerplays, they literally cost us more than they help

Give it to Myers to fuck up the game

bobbinka 01-27-2024 08:39 PM

I don't think they should be allowed to give a completely different penalty to a different player for a review on the initial call that was made

First time seeing the chaos giraffe?

pastarocket 01-27-2024 09:13 PM

Chaos giraffe Myers with the elbow on that player Danforth.

The one time I remember the Canucks overcoming Myers meltdown of dumbass penalties to pull off a win haha.

All Star Break ...

1. Vancouver 41G, 71pts
2. Boston 41G, 71pts

spoon.ek9 01-27-2024 09:33 PM

That was the wrong call on the major penalty imo. It wasn't malicious at all (in comparison to gallager's for example). It was careless and should have been a 2min minor. Calling a 5min major and a game misconduct on the play is just clown show reffing. Initial call was on Cole for the boarding (which somehow was no longer a penalty at all) and then they switch the call to Myers?? That has to be a first in any nhl game.

Glad we came back, killed all 5 mins and scored in OT. That's a good character win for the team.

punkwax 01-28-2024 07:22 AM

Took the boy to the game last night and it was one heck of a game to be at for an 8 y/o. He was wearing his Boeser jersey which made it that much sweeter to see Brock finally get to 30.

The seats didn’t suck either.

Bringing kids/new fans to great games always seems like you’re setting them for disappointment in the future :lol maybe not with Rick Hockey behind the bench though!

Watching a lot of hockey this season I honestly feel we’re at a whole new generation of talent/player these days.

I’ve never in my life seen Canuck players take and receive passes as hard as Hughes and Miller send between each other, it’s absolutely insane. Their little sling passes to each other are like fucking slap shop speed and they are taking them cleanly between each other, it’s crazyyyyy

spoon.ek9 01-28-2024 10:53 AM

Somewhat related, I've recently been watching highlights from the Sedins era. While the skill level is definitely high, the speed of the game has increased dramatically since then. It's hard to notice when you've watched consistently over the last decade-plus but looking back now, it's obvious.

Now go watch some of their 94 run lol

It's crazy how the game has gotten consistently faster
