proshoraca 03-13-2007 05:27 PM

ya man i read it, you said he doesnt need a 5" downpipe unless hes making 1500 hp. pretty clear to me. obviously u dont know who 13bt is or what he has, was a pretty uneducated statement, not surprised coming from you.

edit- did some wiring today

girlcrazy_420 03-13-2007 05:49 PM

modded insurance onto the new car.

actually he was right... bigger diameter doesn't equal more flow unless you have the air to fill it. When you see a diesel running a monster 5" exhaust you also have to remember he is likely running 70-100 psi on top of the super high compression the diesel already has, and making more than 1000 lbs/ft of torque.

going from 3" to 5" is a much bigger step than you would think...

Just did the calcs. Area of a circle = Pi x Radius^2

So....

3" pipe section area = 3.14 x 1.5"^2 = 7.065 sq inches

Then we move on to the 5" pipe which is only 2/3 bigger right?

5" pipe section area = 3.14 x 2.5"^2 - 19.625 sq inches

Well that was "exhausting". Ima go back to work now. ;)

down_hill_dog 03-14-2007 10:18 AM

Shawn, you sure are a smart guy! seriously though.

At 60 lbs boost, 17.1 compression and ONE turbo larger than all the turbos in the okanagan sector put together.. Big trucks still are'nt looking for more flow yet with 5" downpipes. And some of our trucks produce 600+hp and 2000+ ft lb's of torque 100% stock!

Refaced M5 flywheel going back in along with a new clutch pressure plate, release bearing pilot bearing and rear main seal!
yay!

Car looks awesome. Loving the pink strut brace.

You need to give your engine bay a degreasing!

13bt 03-14-2007 06:40 PM

would it make you feel better if i did 4 '' then.

Slo40 03-14-2007 07:14 PM

haha don't bother me none. I was just making a point because they were jumping down whitetalon's throat for his comment. When you do the math it puts it all in perspective. 5" pipe will kill your exhaust velocity.

zul8r 03-14-2007 09:52 PM

Goodbye AFM. Hello more stainless intake pipe, (gotta love finding scrap stainless around the garage)

Heres the before: *lost the rubber elbow for my intake so I had to ghetto fab something up with masking tape to start the car up again after being in pieces all winter*

And the after:

thanks for the support slo40. just wondering why you decided to run the intake all the way to the other side? less piping and weight would be better in all aspects.

velocity stack maybe? dont turbos like the air to be brought in with a fair bit of speed?

and to keep this on topic, just found out i need more last minute SC stuff than i thought! damn boost is confusing shit

Tchleung 03-15-2007 11:49 AM

Silly Jeff, where would you have been without me. hehe

jeffh 03-15-2007 01:40 PM

umm driving a stock blue 90 integra?

went to pick and pull and got a couple different map sensors and i also picked up some obd1 injector clips

whitetalon 03-15-2007 04:01 PM

the turbo is creating a vaccum on the intake compressor side and tube length isnt help anything. Most 1/4mile hardcore turbo guys go without an intake filter but not recomended for street cars.
