If he's going to the Canucks, I hope he plays against Ottawa cuz I'm going that night!

hotjoint 12-15-2008 01:34 PM

He'll take 2 mil with the rangers if it means a cup run. If not then he'll go for the money and sign with the canucks

F3 12-15-2008 01:36 PM

If the rangers waive some of their $1mil 3rd and 4th liners they can free up a little over $3mil or so for sundin. If it was about the money sundin would have signed with the canucks already.

Tim Budong 12-15-2008 01:46 PM

aside from where he will go
which team has a bigger chance o makin to the cup final
Rangers or Vancouver..

both have goaltending..both have scoring..we have defence...jello body defence..
rangers have a horrible rade redden and rozival..
so both teams are soo similar..somewhat..

$3 million contract right now = ~$1.5 million for Sundin since his contract is pro-rated.

There is no way in hell Sundin and JP Barry would accept a 1.5 mill contract.

I think he meant 3 million was the pro rated amount so a $6million deal offer give or take

Tim Budong 12-15-2008 02:39 PM

6mil for sundin and a very good team on paper
they should ship redden to like..tampa..
ahahahha

Who would they trade to get that additional 4.5 mill?

Harvey Specter 12-15-2008 02:54 PM

I can't really see the NYR dumping 1-2 players to make room for Sundin. Sure they're struggling but they're still in the top 5 and I honestly don't see them making any drastic changes.

I have a question so if it was 6M prorated does it affect the cap for the whole year? or only the prorated amount? So in essence they just need to free up 1.7M or so?

Hondaracer 12-15-2008 03:23 PM

kinda pathetic that Angelo esposito makes the team now even though Pierre McGuire said that at least 3 other players including the Giants Evander Kane had a better last 3 games in tryouts, shoulda just cut him again and let him rot in Atlanta

He could have allowed the Leafs to trade him to Detroit in time for a cup run last year, and he didn't. He could have signed for them this off season if he was really interested in a Cup run, and he didn't.

Why would he wait until now to take a lesser chance with the Rangers?

Harvey Specter 12-15-2008 03:34 PM

It was priceless watching Angelo Esposito when teams passed him up at the draft and was finally picked 20th overall.

lol, same here. But it's because a Cup run is more likely with the Rangers, and I'm assuming Sundin would rather have the cup than get a bigger paycheque. But of course, that's IF NYR even wins the cup. No guarantees. Because really, a cup run isn't good enough anymore for him at this point in his career. If NYR doesn't get the cup this year, he might as well sign for more money with the Canucks.

While it's not about the money, I doubt Sundin will want to play for dirt cheap either. I think Sundin's just waiting to see if NYR can sort out their salary issues or not. They most likely won't be able to, so there's only one other option left...

Except currently, Canucks don't really have a goaltender at the moment

Tim Budong 12-15-2008 04:27 PM

the rangers as most of you heard
will most likely dump Peter Prucha and Patty Rissmiller
as u can see from nhlnumbers..1.7 and 1mil
rissmiller is usually a scratch guy..doin horribly, prucha is under performing..
thats 2.7mil
6mil prorated is around 3mil as someone mentioned above..
but i believe on the drive home..pratt n donny said hte rangers havent offered a contract yet

Tim Budong 12-15-2008 04:31 PM

No. He put up great numbers that season because he played with Alexander Radulov. When Radulov left so did Espositos all-star stats.

Hondaracer 12-15-2008 05:02 PM

^ which is mainly the reason why he's been passed over the previous 3 times, he was lighting it up early on with good team mates at a 16 year old but has steadilly declined since

It still doesn't make sense for them to do that

Prucha = 1.6 mill
Rissmiller = 1 mill

They dump those 2 guys and they'll still need to call up AHLers that probably makes ~$500k x 2 so you're really only saving 1 million.

They're going to have to move one of their big guns or dump a lot of their 3rd/4th liners. The majority of their team makes under 1.6M and moving them and replacing them with an AHLer that costs about 500-700K frees up very little room.

Listening to Praytt and Taylor on the way home, as bad as it sounds, Naslund is the best guy for the Rangers to get rid of. At 4 mill a year, whereas Gomez is making 7 Mill and Drury was making something ridicuously high. The Rangers need someone that will take Naslund and they share the contract.

With every season, the way the new NHL is has made things interesting. First everyone thought signing multi-year/career contracts ie DiPietro, Lecaviler, Ovchan (sp?) now it looks like a lower cap is inevitable. To make room on the cap, you need to find a team that can make the room who is willing to trade. Lots of fun and it is quite the chess match besides the game on the ice.

trdees 12-15-2008 08:22 PM

How the fuck can u misspell OVECHKIN! hes not chinese no CHAN in his last name

hi5-ive 12-15-2008 08:34 PM

Harvey Specter 12-15-2008 08:43 PM

Yeah but what team has enough room for Naslund but more importantly what team out there is willing to pay $4 million for him?
