no way a gm will send a big name down to the minors

The scenario was already talked about. The Rangers need to keep a 23 man roster.
To send down a player, the Rangers will need to call someone up.

Let's look at the numbers. To send down Prucha, that is $1.6 M. But then they have to bring someone back up and the lowest salary in the NHL is $500K, so that mean effectively, they increased their cap space by $1.1 M, but they added someone else to either ride the pine or some new blood to learn to play on the team.

Assuming they send some bigger name guy down, IE Naslund, and someone picks him up off of waivers, the Rangers will still be on the hook for 2M and they lose a player in Naslund and look stupid for signing him in the offseason.

The media said JP Barry said Sundin will announce his descision on thursday.

GMTSE, I like the way you think, but it just wouldn't make any sense unless they know something we don't.

Grandmaster TSE 12-16-2008 03:00 PM

i know, doesn't matter what any of us say, all depends on sundin

but just looking how everything is right now, i just don't think the rangers can free up enough cap to lure him over.

You know what, Vancouver has always had a lot of disappointments. Last year with Forsberg. Vancouver was in the running for Gretzkey way back when. We had a chance for Glen Anderson, but he failed the physical because of his bad knees.

I know, we got Luongo, Bure.

Hopefully we get Sundin, but it sucks to have him sign here knowing he wanted to sign with NYR. We would be like the back up girl friend where the guy calls out for sex because he couldn't pick up any chick at the bar.

hypediss 12-16-2008 03:38 PM
