so making decision before dec 19, spends christmas time in sweden, joins team right after. 26th against oilers - doubt he will play (IF HE DOES SIGNS WITH CANUCKS) probably 28th against sens, interesting. |
Unless someone pulls a rabbit out of the hat at the last minute, Mats Sundin will be, by the end of this week, either a Vancouver Canuck or a New York Ranger. Sundin met with Rangers' GM Glen Sather on the weekend, but sources say the Rangers have yet to formally indicate exactly how much they are prepared, or able (because of the salary cap), to pay Sundin. Once Sundin's agent J.P. Barry gets that information, perhaps in the next 24 to 48 hours, Sundin is expected to make a final decision on where he will play. Barry has a previously-scheduled meeting with Vancouver GM Mike Gillis on Tuesday, primarily to discuss contract negotiations for Canuck players Daniel and Henrik Sedin as well as Mattias Ohlund, but Sundin is also likely to be discussed at that time. Sources say the plan is for Sundin to make a final decision before NHL rosters are frozen on Friday (Dec. 19). It does not appear that any of the other teams that had expressed interest – Chicago, Philadelphia, Montreal and Tampa Bay, amongst others – are either in a position to move forward or have a strong desire to pursue Sundin any further. So it looks as though it's coming down to the Rangers and the Canucks. The Canucks have no salary cap issues and have already offered Sundin a contract at an annual salary of $10 million. Once Sundin finds out how much less than that he would get in New York -- and it may be significantly less if the Rangers are even able to clear salary cap room for him -– he'll be in a position to compare it to the Vancouver offer and make a long-awaited decision. In the meantime, Sundin is heading home to Sweden. He has completed his training in North America and plans to keep skating while in Sweden, spending Christmas there before joining his new NHL team immediately after that. Or at least that is the plan. |

He was talking about post goal celebrations, and how they build energy in the team, ie his goal in the first period. In the past, Linden would not allow them to celebrate goals. Sorta like the endzone celebrations after a touchdown in football. |
Why would Hordichuk say that? He wasn't even here when Linden played =S |
Get those Sundin jerseys ready because he's coming to Vancouver folks. I just can't see how the Rags are going to clear enough salary cap for him. you also have to expect that they'll get lowballed to the max on any deal they try to make because every GM in the league knows why they need to dump salary. gomez - 7.357 drury - 7.050 naslund - 4 rozsival - 5 redden - 6.500 lundqvist - 6.875 Those are the only players that the Rags really need to dump in order to acquire Sundin. They're not going to trade Naslund since he just signed there. They're not going to trade Lundqvist. There's nobody out there that will trade for Rozsival or Redden and their over-inflated contracts. Trading one of those guys would make their mediocre defense extremely crappy. No other team out there really has room to take on the big contracts of Gomez or Drury. Only way they can really take on Sundin is if they trade one of their top 2 C. I think the only team that would only be able to take them without doing a salary dump trade themselves would be the Canucks lol |
