Set a "soft" deadline and it is whether to retire or to play in the NHL. Not necessarily to play for a certain team.

Ronin 07-31-2008 07:31 PM

He said not to expect any sort of announcement. Sundin originally said "August" so that means August...not specific time in August.

bossxx 07-31-2008 08:50 PM

I thought he was going to make a decision before Aug 1st?

Let's just stop thinking / talking about Sundin. It's causing too much trauma and stress in my life hahaha

the_rickster 07-31-2008 08:52 PM

^imagine how mike gillis feels. probably springs out of his seat everytime his his phone rings.

6thGear. 07-31-2008 09:38 PM

aw man, tambellini is gone? well, now the team really is changing

KenM 07-31-2008 10:00 PM

well tambellini has been lining up for a GM job for a long time.
i am really glad he is getting a shot at it.

As for the sundin situation, I hope the alleged vermette deal is still on the table if sundin say no.

I wonder how vigneault is going to change our style of play with this new group of players

Vermette just signed w/ sens for a multi year contract.

I doubt murray is going to trade him.

scheng924 07-31-2008 10:03 PM

i wonder when will sundin say ANYTHING....

i wonder what's causing this delay..

iPee 07-31-2008 10:50 PM

creating suspense

this sudin thing is getting lame though
first couple ..... few weeks was pretty exciting now its just
fuck hurry and make a decision already

68style 07-31-2008 11:02 PM

I have this sinking feeling he's going to Detroit for some ridiculously paltry sum of money............

fukamoto 07-31-2008 11:34 PM

JP Barry said Detroit is not one of the 6 teams in the running.

Sundin announced he's not ready to make a decision yet whether or not he's going to play despite a soft deadline of August 1st.

Vermette is gone. Filppula is gone. Weren't those our plan B's at two different times this past month?

Brutal.

tonyzoomzoom 07-31-2008 11:37 PM

Gillies' plan B = "sundin is gone. Now what?"

Wrong.

Gillis was on the Pratt & Taylor show this afternoon around 5:30pm.

It was a short phone interview and this is the important parts

- Patient with Sundin
- Thinks the offer was very aggressive
- Plan B and C in mind

"Yes, we definitely have a plan B and C and they haven't changed."

Looks like Gillis already has 2 backup trades ready in case Sundin doesn't sign.

fukamoto 08-01-2008 12:40 AM

You believe him?

Everybody knew exactly what he was going to say in the phone conversation plus Team 1040 is known for throwing out ridiculously easy questions because they are basically under the direct control of the team.

hi5-ive 08-01-2008 12:41 AM

Go Canucks Goooooooooooooooo

Hondaracer 08-01-2008 12:44 AM

good to see tamby go, now there are virtually no parts of the old guard around anymore, fresh team from the bottom up

Hi_Im_Mike 08-01-2008 01:24 AM

Question: Even if we do sign Sundin are we still gonna trade Bieksa/Salo for another top 6 forward?

I'd rather believe him than a bunch of guys on the internet that have nothing to go on except their own speculation.

I think we have around 9 mill in cap space right now. Look for somebody to be traded if he signs.

I think the odd man out would be Pyatt if Sundin signs. He really has no place on the top six if Sundin signs here.

murd0c 08-01-2008 06:55 AM

Does anyone know what time Sundin is going to announce if hes playing or not?

Sundin does.

Well at this point nobody even knows what day let alone time. The Aug 1st timeline was a fake. Sundin will be ready when he is ready and that probably won't be for another 1-2 weeks maybe. Only Sundin knows

AzNightmare 08-01-2008 09:39 AM

I seriously wonder which players are part of Gillis' plan B and C.
He could very well have deals prepared already if Sundin officially declines the offer,
but I'm just curious what kind of players could Canucks get for Bieksa?

Afinogenov??

the_rickster 08-01-2008 09:46 AM

we're 47 pages deep and it's august 1st... who wants to put a friendly wager on total pages by the end of 08/09 playoffs?
