Listening to the Linden tribute video during the State of the Franchise address right now

Robson: "Linden will play! You know he'll play even if he's on crutches!"

I still prefer Salo over Bieksa for this upcoming season especially if sundin signs. Our PP will be deadly. I hope Salo stays healthy and prove all the haters out there wrong. hehehe.

bossxx 07-23-2008 06:26 PM

+1 ^

Wow he has a good shot and he is pretty solid on D. Well he doesn't hit the net very often and he doesn't shoot the fucking puck enough. He's NOT that great.. I don't see why everyone is a Salo fanboy cuz he's got this rocket shot that sounds rad when its clangs the glass. Fuck who cares. How many points did he get last season. I dnno less than 10 probably. If he wasn't such a pussy in his own zone and didn't get injured every single year he's been in the league i'd probably like the guy.

Alatar 07-23-2008 06:36 PM

25 points last season, actually. 8 goals, 17 assists, in 63 games.

The year before, 67 games played, 14 goals, 23 assists, 37 points.

Bieksa, on the other hand, year before, had 42 points, 81 games played, 12 goals, 30 assists. Last year, in 34 games, he had 2 goals and 10 assists.

Both are solid D men, not huge, and didn't perform "great" last season, but still held up pretty well.

Ch28 07-23-2008 06:38 PM

This is brutal...listening to Zimmerman talk is like listening to a grade 4 kid doing his first in class presentation

Ch28 07-23-2008 06:43 PM

Canucks will get a new 3rd jersey

Gillis has been negotiating an extension with the Sedins already and thinks an extension will be done in "the not too distant future"

411ken 07-23-2008 07:05 PM

Sundin will make a decision by August 1st. It's about freaking time! I hope he doesn't delay this and say he is still "unsure"

bossxx 07-23-2008 07:10 PM

The Canucks should have offered him 10 million 4 weeks ago and for every week he doesn't sign drop the price $250,000.

the_rickster 07-23-2008 07:58 PM

you guys keep forgetting that Salo has a no trade clause, and why the fuck would he waive it to go back to ottawa? Bieksa is easier to move, younger and out of the two, will be the first one gone.

bossxx 07-23-2008 08:05 PM

Is there anyone else on our entire roster we can trade? It seems like Salo and Bieksa are the only two ppl being mentioned.

the_rickster 07-23-2008 08:18 PM

i think the reason why everyone brings up bieksa is because he has potential, he's young, he's got a fairly large contract and even though it's unfair to say; he put up mediocre numbers this past season.

I mentioned this a few pages ago. Sedin sisters.
But a few posts above me says that Gillis is extending their contracts so fuck me...-_-

411ken 07-23-2008 08:40 PM

I wouldn't have a problem trading Pyatt. As for the idea of trading the Sedins, I would give them a chance especially if we have a solid 1st line and they go back to 2nd line.

And please don't say Sedins for Kovalchuck as I don't think that will everr happen. but I could be wrong.

not true at all. We still have plenty of expendable forwards who could be traded for prospects/picks, and its not like they need to make much space.

bossxx 07-23-2008 08:42 PM

I'd rather trade Kesler than Bieksa.

This is the main reason I prefer to trade Bieksa instead of Salo.

Bieksa and Ohlund both have decent shots from the point. Not as hard, but probably better at getting them through traffic and on net for screens/tips. Edler as well recently has shown he can shoot, and I'm not sure if you remember Baumgartner held his own on the PP a few years ago (34 pts), leading to him being signed by Philly for too much money.

If Sundin wanted to play here he would have signed by now, plain and simple. His agent says "he's still not sure if he wants to play, it's not about the teams" is bullshit. Of course he wants to play he is just waiting for the best opportunity (most pay and stanley cup ratio) and I don't really blame him.

If this was the case, he would have signed with Montreal allready.

WHAT?!?!? .... your crazy

umm..anyways so from the state of the union i guess they are now puting a bunch of money into GM place as well upgrading the glass to new league standard stuff which is suppose to reduce upper body and head injuries. As well as a 2 million dollar upgrade to the dressing rooms to totally overhaul it

awsome news imo, he attributed all of it to attracting players to Vancouver and having the best possible situation for any player here

I dont know about you guys but even at this point I think Gillis has pretty much pulled off brilliance in the execution of his rebuild, the players he has brought in are almost all upgrades on replaced players, we've added grit and injected new energy into the team, moved our new "Core" players into rolls with more icetime ie. Kesler, Burrows, Edler, etc. And he's also bringing a whole new mentality into the entire organization.

And what if he gets Sundin?! even if we missed the playoffs again imo there is no way in hell you could say he didnt try his best.

Ch28 07-23-2008 10:51 PM

I still can't get over how horrible Zimmerman was during the event. He kept studdering and sounded like he had no idea what he was talking about.

Hondaracer 07-23-2008 10:56 PM

I didnt actually hear the interview i just was listening to jeff patterson on 1040 talking all about it

"At that time the former captain of the Maple Leafs will make a decision as to whether he will play this upcoming season or simply retire."

So he's gonna tell the world whether he's gonna retire or not. But not mention which team he will play for if he doesn't retire.

I still think anybody (ie Nonis) could have done just as well with the cap room and pieces he has to work with.

68style 07-24-2008 06:32 AM

^

I don't think so actually, to me it looks like Gillis and his buddies have spent day and night going through the entire list of players in the NHL and out of the NHL looking for guys that could fill specific roles... I don't get the impression that Nonis was that dedicated or detail-oriented, can't really expect anyone to be honestly, but Gillis seems like a total workaholic and it shows, he's tackling so many different arenas of being a GM simultaneously it's crazy, definitely earning his paycheque.

cspec 07-24-2008 08:37 AM

^ but then again, nonis has been rebuilding for this year... all before he got fired.
