quit overanalyzing. i said that if teams are wanting to make a deal, they will call on teams that are focused on making a deal, not focused on spending their cap money on a ufa. take the vermette situation as an example... we'll only take him if sundin DOESN'T sign. how many other situations like that are there? that's all i'm saying. by putting all our eggs in one basket, general managers keep dialing.

i share your sentiments with regards to gillis' potential brilliance and public praise, if he can sign sundin and sundin can be productive as a $10m player should be (80-100 points?)... but one thing, sophomore means year 2.

don;t you mean rookie year, hondaracer?

HA!

tell that to kevin lowe, bryan burke, bobby clarke, john davidson etc.

in order to do business, you have to have respect for the people in your industry. ARE YOU GOING TO LET THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR GUY WHO CALLED YOUR KID A PRICK AND KICKED YOUR DOG BUILD YOUR HOUSE JUST BECAUSE HE BUILDS GOOD HOMES AND CHARGES A GREAT PRICE? no. because you have to have good relationships with people you do business with.

dont be an idiot. it was all about winning 20+ years ago before 99% of players in the league were millionaires and it wasn't as big a business as it is now. the main priority for the owners is to be prestigious and turn big profits. the more stars you have on your roster, the more games you win, the farther you go in the playoffs (free labour) the more prestigious your team is, the more money you make.

RiceIntegraRS 07-30-2008 09:47 PM

its Brian Burke btw. And its been said awhile back that u can be a complete ass like who u listed above and people will still do business for the good of the team. U think if Burke were to trade guys like Perry and Getzlaf, and no one would deal with him cause hes an ass?

and u really do think Gillis is putting all his eggs in 1 basket? Sundin is just plan A, theres obviously Plan B,C,D ect. And every1 knows that Bieksa might be on the market. Teams are willing to wait for the Canucks to see what there gonna do so they can land a defencemen like him.

Good luck to Tambellini.

Sucks to see Tamby go but he really did deserve a GM position. Too bad he went to one of our rivals but good luck to him!

willystyle 07-31-2008 03:45 PM

vermette is signed!

great!

RRxtar 07-31-2008 04:12 PM

sad to see tamby go. when nonis got canned i thought steve would have been moved into the GM position and hoped trevor linden would be our assistant gm!

im not surprized to see him go tho, theres been talk of him getting a full time gig for a few years now.

Harvey Specter 07-31-2008 04:54 PM

Yup, it sucks to see Tamby leave and especially move to a NW team.

Razor Ramon HG 07-31-2008 07:11 PM

So J.P. Barry set a deadline for Sundin to make his decision tomorrow, right?
