GUYS

Somebody school me on Grabner, I keep my tabs on the Canucks enough to know about him, and in my book I keep thinking he'll be like a Pavel type player (I really know very little about the Canucks minor league roster, I heard somewhere that he could be that type that's all). So what's with this guy? How come he hasn't even been given like a game here or there? Thanks....

p.s. didn't Fedor sign with some another team? Shit we better not hope he does well right lol.

they didnt trade huet away, he was a ufa and chicago signed him. its too bad as i dont see theo doing well in the highly offensive east. if the caps had locked huet up washington would be a top 4 threat in the east and unless the theodore of old (montreal) shows up i think washington may have a long season

.

you do know that detroit won the cup last year right? with a team full of euros.

Hondaracer 08-24-2008 10:35 PM

uhg..so boring...

AzNightmare 08-24-2008 11:59 PM

Did Sundin, himself, even say he will announce anything in the month of August, or was that media report as well?

Razor Ramon HG 08-25-2008 11:03 AM

It's assumed he'd make an announcement before training camp anyways.

I guess I should edit my original post; Lidstrom is definitely the first European born and raised captain to hoist the Cup.

I read on wikipedia that in the 30s, there were 2 captains that were born in Russia and Scotland, but raised in Canada, who won the cup.

mike gillis needs to take that fucking offer sheet off the table, hes making an ass of himself for waiting this long

flawless 08-25-2008 03:10 PM

Waited this long, might as well wait until training camp.

kind of like some desperate highschool dude with a lot of money who offers the hottest chick in the grade a totally awesome, princess style grad experience that she wouldn't get anywhere else, then she says "i'll get back to you..." and doesn't until the day before the party.

i'm willing to wait until training camp for Sundin, and if he doesnt sign then so be it and we'll move forward with what we have

dumping the sundin offer and going after other players would imo make Gillis look like he is scared and wants to please the fans, not put a quality product on the ice for years to come.

finally someone speaking my language.

nsmb 08-25-2008 03:13 PM

i just wanna watch some fuckin hockey already

Hondaracer 08-25-2008 03:39 PM

drop the offer and pick up some fucking 3rd line losers to move into top line positions??

Woohoooooo.. more line shuffling and mediocrity!

If the offer is dropped, the only moves to be made to aquire legitamite talent are through trades, so it really doesnt matter if the offer is on the table or not.

AzNightmare 08-25-2008 04:03 PM

WHEN exactly does training camp begin?

you're right, but if the offer is still on the table, it limits the kind of trades we can swing. what if get the opportunity to trade for someone like mike richards (not saying its going to happen, but what if) and it ends up taking 3.5-4M of our cap space? kinda makes signing sundin hard to do without unloaded someone, eh?

the way i look at it is, we're in the perfect position to clean up some other team's mess by taking one of their players and offering very little in return in order for them to get below the max. we have $10M to spend whereas a team like philly has 4.5M to ditch, and a handfull of other teams have around 1.5-3M excess.

if we keep sundin's offer on the table while he's up in his room staring in the mirror with gillis waiting out in the driveway with the car running... all those teams with cap problems are going to find other suitors to take their (overpaid??) players to the dance.

tonyzoomzoom 08-25-2008 04:32 PM

I'm sure the Sundin offer is not "open" in the strictest sense. There is nothing happening on the trade side. If there was a legitimate trade presented to Gillis, I'm pretty sure the $10m Sundin offer would be withdrawn in a second.

The chances of Sundin coming here diminishes with every passing day (to almost nil at this point, IMO) and I'm sure Gilles knows that but he also has no real Plan B unless he can find a willing GM to trade with.

RiceIntegraRS 08-25-2008 04:43 PM

the_rickster, the thing u dont get is that, the offer is on the table but it hasnt been accepted. Its not going against our cap, and if tommorow we get a deal where we're getting a player like Drury, then we can obviously take it and the offer to Sundin would be taken off. If Gillis wanted, he would Offer Sundin 10Mil, Sakic 10Mil, Shanahan 3Mil, ect all at the same time, hes only really fucked if they all accept at the same time.

raygunpk 08-25-2008 04:45 PM

Sundin is going to NYR and Gomez will be moved...here.
I still want Vermette though.

ok there eklund

raygunpk 08-25-2008 05:04 PM

The secret is out.

Harvey Specter 08-25-2008 05:11 PM

Chances of Sundin coming to Vancouver are getting slimmer by the day and quite honestly would you guys pay $10mil for an 'out of shape' 37 year old? I wouldn’t. Canucks fans should learn from the crap we put up with Forsberg.

mako 08-25-2008 05:13 PM

why are you guys even still talking about Suckdin

Soundy 08-25-2008 05:17 PM

If you're anxious for some hockey, Giants training camp is on now, and the first pre-season games will be held at their Ladner practice facility in less than two weeks!

Pity the peanut guy.

For the new generation of sports venues, sports just isn't enough. It's all about the "fan experience." So far, that's mostly meant better food, wider concourses, in-house brew pubs and humorous contests during breaks in the action. Extra amenities, like having food brought to you during the game, are generally reserved for the high rollers in the premium seats.

But now, two major league sports franchises, baseball's New York Mets and hockey's Vancouver Canucks, have signed deals with Nortel Networks (nyse: NT - news - people ) to upgrade their in-house voice and data systems, likely leading to instant concession stand ordering from all over the arena.

Hondaracer 08-25-2008 10:14 PM

buddy aquaman is just PUMPING money into this team, it's fuckin dope! lol
