Yup...something about Pat Quinn fucking the trade over because of his ego.

Razor Ramon HG 08-09-2008 10:37 PM

Didn't Quinn call Gretzky's agent like 2-3 in the morning demanding an answer and Gretzky found it disrespectful and declined?

tonyzoomzoom 08-10-2008 10:12 PM

It wasn't Quinn. It was Stan McCammon. He wanted a quick response from Gretzky but Gretzky wanted to think about it over night. McCammon thought Gretzky and his agent was shopping Canucks' contract around to other teams. McCammon then called off the deal.

Frickin moron, that McCammon.

Oooooohhhhhhhhhh hockey season is almost here!

cspec 08-11-2008 01:59 AM

^ fuck yeah!!!

iwantaskyline 08-11-2008 02:27 AM

haha we actually offered Ryder the same contract he got in Boston, he said travel and Julien in Boston was the factors why he picked Boston over Vancouver. So glad we didn't sign that 3rd liner to 4 mill a year.

A little of change of pace for this thread ...I think it's a pretty cool idea to be able to design his helmet

no, I didn't mean what did Sundin say. I mean't isn't there an actual
deadline date NHL set for when players cannot join a team anymore
before the season begins?

choda 08-11-2008 01:25 PM

^^ Ya...it's the trade deadline and that's near the end of the season

bossxx 08-11-2008 04:10 PM

Does everyone or anyone still think that Sundin is coming here?

Let's be realistic..

murd0c 08-11-2008 04:19 PM

^ being realistic I give him 1 more week. If he doesn't decide hes not comming here. He will want to be with his new team right away. Especially with him having to find a place move his family out here before school so his kids can get ready etc. Just seems very unlikley right now there's so much more he has to do then just sign a contract and it really seems he will not make vancouver his choice.

I say trade lou for some very good prospects and rebuild this team from the ground up like it should be. Sad to say that being a fanand not wanting to lose but in the long run it will be for benaficial for the team and the fans.

bossxx 08-11-2008 04:36 PM

I heard he isn't even in the gym.. He won't even be prepared to play by the Fall even if he does sign with a team. I think he's gonna retire..

Trading Lou would be a decent idea. There are a lot of goalies out there who get paid half as much and do a pretty decent job in net. With our defence do we really need a vezina style goalie back there? It would be nice to balance things out a bit.. we'll see how it shapes up in the next 2-3 weeks (if any changes are made).

Hondaracer 08-11-2008 04:46 PM

whats so great about our defence? the last couple years we've always been hailed as "top of the league" when clearly we dont even touch teams like Detroit and Anaheim on the blue line, we arent the best and not even close to it

imo if i was GM my main focus would be locking up Lu long term, even if it's paying him 9 million per, Canuck fans forget so easilly of the days and pretty much decades of bad and average goaltending, sure we can dump lu and get some picks, but then what happens when those picks move on, our development is still in the gutter, and we look back and nothing ever came from trading Luongo?

lets build a franchise with FRANCHISE PLAYERS, not call ups and hopefulls.

bossxx 08-11-2008 04:48 PM

True. Althought Bieksa and Salo were out most of last year, i do see your point.

Let's just do something before the seasons starts!!! Sundin is definately putting a pain in Gillis' ass.

68style 08-11-2008 05:01 PM

I agree completely with hondaracer, our defense is weak, all last year we gave up leads and I know as a viewer and armchair player I was frustrated on NUMEROUS occasions at people not taking their checks (often the forward or centreman's fault) and defenceman not clearing the front of the net, playing tough enough on the puck or flat out allowing opposing team members to get to rebounds or win battles for the puck.

I do not think Salo is a fix to this problem since he's not a tough defenceman and Bieksa is responsible for a lot of the aforementioned gaffs (at least last year) so I'm not sure where we intend to go with our supposedly awesome defence :p

Hondaracer 08-11-2008 05:30 PM

all i remeber saying last year was "another bieksa giveaway.." especially in situations where he was attempting to pinch or hold it in on the offensive blueline, bobbles and brain farts cost many a short-handed break

Salo has become a pussy in the last few seasons as well, he doesnt even play the body let alone play tough, although im not a huge bieksa fan i'd much rather keep him then Salo

AzNightmare 08-11-2008 05:34 PM

I definatey want Luongo to stay.
Our defense is not as good as people make it sound.
Luongo proved he can dominate in the playoffs.
He needs some offensive support.

Realistically, the chances of Sundin coming is pretty much like 1% now.
Canucks are in a really bad position right now, but I'm not exactly sure who's still in the market, or who can Canucks get for Bieksa.
