bieksa for an LA draft pick and minor leaguer? these signings make me think sundin ain't coming. |
I really hope that Salo stays healthy this season as he is pretty much our only shooter at the point during PP or whatever. I can't think of any other one that can replace his point shots if he does get traded or injured. This is the main reason I prefer to trade Bieksa instead of Salo. |
luc bourdon has a pretty mean shot from the po-...... oh, nevermind. |
Canucks Sign Shannon, Rypien, Brown, McIver, Fitzgerald and Sharrow |

lol, at this rate, even if Sundin comes, fans will still hate him for tormenting the city like this. |
until he racks up a bunch of points. last time i drove along the georgia viaduct, there was a tarp over part of gm place and i said to my girlfriend: "that is were sundins larger than life image in a 'nucks uniform is going to go" like luongo's on the other side. |
^ you seem to have a lot of hope that sundin will come |
it's not hope, i just expect it now. you know when you talk about something so much that you start to believe its going to happen? that's whats happening here... i've basically accepted the fact that sundin is a canuck. believe me, at first i thought it was ridiculous to offer an unsure 37 year old $10m, but once i disconnected myself from that bullshit and watched as this saga dragged on, it doesn't really matter to me. i think that if he decides against vancouver, we're in a good positions to trade for a 1st liner that can put up as good or better numbers, and if he does sign here, we're solid and we might need to make a trade to free up some cap space after all the signings today. the bright side is that by offering a guy $10m and waiting for him to decide, we put ourselves in a position where all the other teams approach the cap or surpass it, and then need to dump players to avoid penalty, so if he signs, we're golden and if he doesn't we can load up the old fashioned way. |
very valid argument... ...but what 1st liner can we trade for? who would we give up? it doesn't seem like we have much to offer to other teams that we would readily give up (except bieska) |
i posted a quick rundown of teams that are past, at or near the cap with still unsigned players a page or two ago... there's a bunch of teams. the team that stands out the most for me is philadelphia ($60m in salary for 08-09). LA Kings are a team that are going to be forced to sign a few high paid players just to hit the cap floor. We don't necessarily have to have a marquee player to offer up, just a half decent prospect on an entry level salary to ride their through their system and a draft pick or two. |

^ i doubt it :o |
Seems pointless to sign all those guys today though. |
Didn't say they SIGNED them all today, just that they're ANNOUNCING them all today. Why put out a half-dozen separate press releases for a buncha minor players, when you can just put out one? |
oh. 10 char |

I only like the Shannon signing out of all those guys today. The others just so dispensible fillers that had they not been signed, i probably wouldn't even notice that they're gone. |
Those are all two-way contracts, I'm sure. We're overloaded at all positions if those aren't just for depth. In fact, we're overloaded if Vermette and Sundin come here. Demitra-Sundin-Raymond Bernier-Sedin-Sedin Burrows-Kesler-Pyatt Hordichuk-Johnson-Wellwood? With Vermette, we'd have three more forwards that are signed to significant contracts (Pettinger, Cowan). I don't know how these lines are going to work but I'm guessing a forward is going to Ottawa along with Salo...although Bieksa could probably go for Vermette straight up. |
I'm almost sure we only have $9.5m of cap room left too...so Salo for Vermette (who should get a $3m contract...he's RFA right now) would free up just enough space for Sundin. |
^ wouldn't it be better to trade Bieska, who has a bigger contract? |

^ but salo is our only guy that can shoot hard from the point... |
We need Fedorov, not Sundin :D If Sundin wanted to play here he would have signed by now, plain and simple. His agent says "he's still not sure if he wants to play, it's not about the teams" is bullshit. Of course he wants to play he is just waiting for the best opportunity (most pay and stanley cup ratio) and I don't really blame him. The thing is, is he really going to give 100% when he has to "settle" for Vancouver? Talk about gay balls. I guess we will find out what happens in a week. |
