He's not that bad...last time he was a minus player was back in 99-00 with the Kings. He's 39 but he only has 1 year left @ 5.6 mill and if you take away Bieksa's contract you're only paying ~+1.5mill for a solid D and you get a good centerman in return for Bieksa. The only question I have is who the hell do we trade away haha

Razor Ramon HG 08-27-2008 04:35 PM

Too bad it'd be ever likely we acquire Mike Fisher.

murd0c 08-27-2008 04:37 PM

I personally think that Schneider would be a nice pick up. With are weak power play last year it would be nice to see a d-man that could move the puck nicely

Noir 08-27-2008 04:37 PM

Why do we need another defenseman? Particularly for another defenseman who's no one special anyways.

Bieksa gets shipped off for the #2 centerman we need

Canucks trade for Schneider from Anaheim

Out - Bieksa + assets traded for Schneider
In - Schneider + #2 centerman

thats just your opinion, when he's been retired for 3 years and everyones forgotten about the last 2 months, -no one- will be thinking that way.

the_rickster 08-27-2008 04:57 PM

the only people thinking this way are canucks, habs and maybe leafs fans. i'm sure rangers fans are mildly excited, but they're used to this kind of speculation, EVERYONE wants to play in manhattan.

Hondaracer 08-27-2008 05:21 PM

whats this shit about Luongo phoning Sundin?

i heard little tidbits today saying "oh Lui phoned him and he never returned his call"

the team1040 really pisses me off sometimes, the last 2 times ive called in i've got the moj going fucking buck because i was dissing the CFL straight up with legitamite points hahah

AzNightmare 08-27-2008 05:33 PM

I'll wait for some official announcement. Rumors suck.

How about Cory for Mathieu? Not sure if it's a good deal for either team but it does have a nice right to it - one Schneider for another ? :)

shawn79 08-27-2008 10:27 PM

rather have cory for Beauchemin

I don't know, if the Canucks have to go rebuilding mode by next year,
trading Luongo and relying on Cory Schneider could be a possibility.
So I wouldn't want to see Cory go. But I'm assuming he's going to live up to the big hype.

Expresso 08-27-2008 10:39 PM

Who would you trade for Schneider though?

I would agree. Despite whatever promises made by Gilles, the chances are good that we will be in a rebuilding mode. If so, there is next to no chance that Luongo would re-sign for an extension. It would be better to trade Luongo then and keep Cory S for now.

Turns out Anaheim is actually over the cap right now so if they are shopping Schneider then they'll probably just want picks in return to make room for Selanne

trdees 08-27-2008 11:24 PM

Wtf Is This Shit About Trading Luongo?

Sadly, that's a good plan if Luongo's not going to extend his contract. And by the way things are looking, I'll think Luongo wants to play in a team with a better chance of contending for the cup. Unless Canucks can turn things around by next season. Or some miracle, something big happens this season.

Hondaracer 08-28-2008 12:42 AM

Luongo still has 2 years in his contract, his value will be the same this time next year as now, they are not going to trade him away at this point that would be retarded

the main priority should be locking him up long term

Roach 08-28-2008 08:50 AM

Right now locking the Sedins up long-term is the priority.

Kev

the_rickster 08-28-2008 09:38 AM

^is or should be?

if we can't do something big this season, i expect that gillis would be looking to ship luongo somewhere special by december/january of the 09/10 season and begin restructuring.

BUT, if we can put something together here in the next few months or so, we might get see some success.

hi5-ive 08-28-2008 10:26 AM

if sundin doesnt come to vancouver, i hope he goes to nyr, and we trade picks with nyr for drury or gomez

AzNightmare 08-28-2008 11:00 AM

It really sucks if Canucks lose Luongo. I really hope Canucks can
pull off something good, at least good enough to make Luongo want to sign an extension. With Luongo gone, there goes Canucks' chance to get a cup. Rare to find a goalie that actually does well on the Canucks team.
