You'd have to offer him between $2,615,625-$3,923,437. The reason being the compensation for offering less then that includes our 2nd rounder which we just traded away. If you offer him somewhere in the above range then you have to give your 1st round pick up and the way the team is looking right now thats not something they should be trading away as it could be a very low pick.

I guess if you went the trade route to get the rights then it could make sense.

It'd be funny if John Davidson came in with an offer sheet just to spite Gillis :haha:

yes it was announced on CKNW this morning that we will be making an offer sheet for him

shawn79 07-04-2008 11:40 AM

if we got a high chance making the playoff $2,615,625-$3,923,437 is a reasonable price for 2nd line center. Since he has been proven and has won a cup

Assets
Owns both outstanding playmaking skills and defensive awareness. Should develop into an all-around player. Is mature beyond his years.

Flaws
Must get stronger in order to withstand the rigors of the NHL game. Will only be average in the goal-scoring department.

Career potential
Second line center. or a #1 after watching him play in the playoffs

2007 playoff stats NHL 22 5 6 11 7

I'd be pissed if I was a GM and another GM threw an offer sheet my way. I hope Gillis at least makes a fair trade attempt with Holland. If the trade doesn't work then a offer sheet goes his way.

AppleSugary 07-04-2008 12:03 PM

It is kind of scary to see the old players are leaving. But I cannot wait to watch the new Canucks players especially the young ones. I just do hope these young guys do have a lot to offer so Luuuu will stay.

Anyone knows who who will be the captain since Naslund is gone?

CRS 07-04-2008 12:07 PM

Bieksa or Mitchell

Mitchell

Bieksa is too young and it wouldn't be too smart to make him captain with all these trade rumors surrounding him.

shawn79 07-04-2008 12:13 PM

i heard don taylor saying ohlund would be captain

winson604 07-04-2008 12:21 PM

If it were up to me id give the C to Mitchell

It's fine if he thinks they have a good shot at the playoffs and a team that might be able to make a run. However, if your going to make an offer and then miss the playoffs it's horrible. Could you imagine if they make the deal, team tanks finishing near bottom of the league and we don't have a 1st or 2nd round pick in next years draft? What if we tanked so bad that pick was 1st or 2nd overall? He thinks he's getting heat now he'll be in flames next June.

I was saying that Ohlund should be captain since he was drafted by the Canucks back in 94 but somebody told me he actually gave up the captaincy role when Messier left and thats how Naslund got it.

Bernier Deal Part of Something Bigger. Morrison Update.

Bigger blog coming regarding the "Best of the Rest" but I had to do a quick update.

I just got confirmation form a source that the Bernier trade for picks is part one of something bigger. When I said to a source familiar to the situation that the Bernier deal was very confusing to Sabres fans and asked if this was "part of something bigger?" I got a funny text back..

"You could say that."

SO I AM.

As for Brendon Morrison. I have confirmation from two sources that Brendon has told everyone that he is not making a decision until Monday. Another source told me that Minnesota is "very much in it."

more to come...Happy 4th!

Seamo 07-04-2008 12:36 PM

trade bieska XD

Roach 07-04-2008 12:37 PM

If a trade is done, it will be interesting to see what perspective Gilles takes on the future of this club. Trade for prospects or for a cup run?

But, if it's an E4 rumor...

Bieksa is priomising, but... Mitchell is one of the top shut down d-man in the league, and he gave our team a home discount. Hes only 31/32 years of age.
I think we should keep him, and strap the C on him or ohlund.

Also, Bieksa's stock went down after last season, maybe we should take the risk, and see if he gets back to his former self. this will let us cash in for more, at the trade deadline, or next off season. however, i would love to keep him on the team.. hes young and talented.

AX.Deadpool 07-04-2008 01:49 PM

DAMn offer sheet to filpula??
is it worth it though??

offer sheet compensation:

$863,156 or less = None
$863,156 - $1,307,811 = 3rd round pick
$1,307,811 - $2,615,623 = 2nd round pick
$2,615,623 - $3,923,434 = 1st and 3rd round pick
$3,923,434 - $5,231,246 = 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick

$5,231,246 - $6,539,061 = Two 1st's, one 2nd, one 3rd round pick
$6,539,061 or more Four = 1st round picks

Harvey Specter 07-04-2008 02:19 PM

B Mo to the Wild? That would be interesting. And I would trade Bieksa before Mitchell. I have no confidence in Bieska after his injury and his pitiful play and effort last season.

hi5-ive 07-04-2008 02:34 PM

V.Filppula made $850,000 last season..hmm
